I think it isn't so much if FURY sees it as an emergency but if Captain Marvel sees it as an emergency. Half of the people around her would have faded too. If she saw that and also got a call from Fury, she would put 2 and 2 together and see the severity of the issue.

Here’s another fact. The Kree were at war with the Nova Corps for a long time. That war had just ended as of the beginning of Guardians 1. It’s probable that Carol was involved in ending that war as well.

OR..... Capt Marvel is on the other side of the galaxy and can't be of any help in any of those other circumstances. She would have literally showed up a year to late to help out New York or any of the other messes. Seriously, watch the Capt Marvel end credits scene. It takes her a long time to show up. Furry hits the button after the snap with the hope she can show up eventually to help out with the huge mess left in the snap's wake.

maybe a year is a little too much but it could surely be weeks or even months, with such a mess and panic we saw at the end of iw it would take some time for people to get a hold of themselves and it would take a long time to determine and report the missing people, remember they said they had to hook the pager up to a bigger power source so it must have been days at least

the pager scene strongly implies that the others are second rate losers - when she gave Fury the pager she said that it was for 'real' emergencies - SO - two words - an adjective and a noun - "real' and 'emergencies' and of the two the word 'real' is more important because as an adjective it s a word that describes or clarifies a noun - so the word 'real' means 'important - so that means there are different types of emergencies - important ones and less important ones - what she meant was for Fury to use it for an important emergency - only - - but Fury realises that there might be less important emergencies but he can't call her - but he needs someone to take care of them none the less - so he sets up a team to take care of these less important situations - so that means that the others are less important than her - she is the first team and they are the second team - and then they lost so that makes them second rate losers - just two words and the whole thing is ruined

Actually no time table between Infinity War and Endgame is given. From the trailers and end scene, it is clear a good amount of time has past. Enough time that posters have been made, lost fliers have aged and people to be at the "move on" point in the grieving process. The pager being hooked up to another power source clearly means the pagers has been going for a long time. So how long? Well how long has it been since the last movie? That is the best guess as to how munch time has pasted.

in addition from Furys perspective Thor and Hulk are still MIA, and he (presumably) doesn't know about Doctor Strange, Ant man or the guardians, so from his perspective its really only the avengers lineup from Civil war that is publicly known/active, with team Cap on the run and Iron man also MIA. As far as fury knows everyone is randomly turning to dust so pulls out his last option.

You're looking too deep into why he didn't push the button before that point btw. He didn't push it before because the Avengers were there. Look at the situation as it actually is. A few years ago, the Avengers splintered. The two leaders fought and no longer speak or work together. Most of the members are scattered around the world in hiding or are completely inactive or MIA. The remaining known active members are Cap, Black Widow, Iron Man, War Machine, and Falcon. Scarlet Witch and Vision are in hiding, Hulk and Thor are MIA, Ant-Man and Hawkeye are on house arrest. Dr Strange isn't known to him or anyone else at this point aside from Thor. The Guardians are obviously not known to anyone either. Spiderman isn't considered an Avenger yet, and even if he was, he's a newbie without experience. Of the 5 remaining Avengers, War Machine works for the government and is basically not a functioning Avenger, Iron man is now missing, and the remaining 3 are among the WEAKEST of the team. Then, Fury learns there is an attack on Wakanda, which means Black Panther, and possibly whatever is left of the Avengers may well be involved and out of the picture. Then people start disappearing. This means the Avengers (few that are even an OPTION), if they're already involved, have already FAILED. That means he needs a bigger gun than even the Avengers. THAT is why he pushes the button.

Another reason that I think he didn't call Carol in a few of the scenarios is time. Most of those scenarios would only be fixed if she was there immediately, but as the CM post-credits scene showed us, it took her a little while to get there. And as long as Nick Fury wasn't in immediate danger, then if things got worse, he could always call her when things got worse. She can win them the war, but she probably wouldn't be quick enough to win the battle.

Originally Howard Stark (I believe) found the Tesseract when looking for Captain America. Mar-Vel was then the one who took it to her lab. I was confused about that too so I looked up to find a timelime. Captain America was found later, of course.

SHIELD had it for decades! Did you not see “Captain America: the First Avenger”? Howard Stark founded and since he was one of the founders of SHIELD he entrusted it with it along with all Capt. America and Hydra research that he and the U.S. military recovered after WWII.

When i asked my friend about this, he said that the actual year that the tesseract was found was never actually stated nor when cap was found. Its just assumed its the time of the movie. But wasnt the tesseract in asgard at somepoint?

What I understood was that after Stark found it he began Project Pegasus and entrusted Mar-Vell with the Tesseract, for whatever reason, which she used to create new tech. After Goose ate it he coughed it up on Fury's desk, he probably found it the next day and from then on it was under SHIELD's protection until the Avengers. Idk. This made me feel like I need to rewatch the entire franchise again to try and piece it together.

Also another reason why he didn't call her before might be that she wouldn't make it in time anyway. Based on the midcredit scene in Captain Marvel I asume it took her at least a day probably a lot more to come. Agreed, it was Coulson who gave the helicarrier to Fury in Age of Ultron so he technically saved the the city population and the Avengers since they would abandon civilians. This was confirmed in Agents of SHIELD season 2. He also gave the information to the Avengers where to find Baron Von Strucker and Loki's sceptre. He does a lot behind the scenes.

I agree with all of this! Plus, there were the time constraints. The events of the first Avengers movie, TWS, and AOU were very fast-paced, each taking place over the span of a few days. Nick knows that Carol would likely be all the way on the other side of the galaxy, so it would certainly take her a while to get back to Earth, which would do little good since the threat was immediate. With IW, though, I think when Nick saw people vanishing he felt that this would be an ongoing problem, and so calling Carol at that point made more sense. Also, who else is looking forward to Carol's reaction when she learns that Nick named the Avenger Initiative after her call sign? 😁

I appreciate this theory. My boyfriend and I were debating why Fury didn't call Captain Marvel in the first Avengers movie. I thought that might have been a good enough reason since Thanos was on the same kind of mission to destroy half the planet then as he was in Infinity War. I really love your analysis, but at the end of the day isn't it just a plot device to set up the Captain Marvel movie? Maybe I'm not enough of a geek, but I didn't even know what the symbol on the pager was when I saw Infinity War. To me, it would have been cooler to release CM before Infinity War. I think there's a missing point, time. All three did not have enough time for captain marvel to show up when the danger was known to be so problematic that she wouldn't have arrived if they failed.

I would suggest that there might be another criterion, which for me would be the most important, is that Fury would need to understand who or what they’re up against. In each instance, he knows that Loki is behind the invasion, HYDRA has infiltrated SHIELD, Ultron is trying to wipe out humanity. In the case of the snap, he is completely unaware of any of the events of Infinity War or Thanos. All Fury sees is people disappearing. I’d say that’s a good enough reason to bust out the big gun.

I think the best explanation is that she’s extremely far away. Fury knows she’s gone to the furthest reaches of the galaxy to get the Skrull a safe distance from the Kree, and though she’s got juju from the Space Stone, she still has to fly there. Even if she goes the speed of light, it’s not like she can travel to the far reaches of the galaxy in a second. She doesn’t have that weird hexa-port tech with her. In the post-credit scene, it’s been a serious amount of time since Fury paged her by the time she arrives. The remaining Avengers have all gathered at HQ, they’re coming up with plans, and Steve’s found time to shave his beard and go to therapy groups. Tony’s probably even found the time to make it back to Earth from Titan. The other disasters were immediate threats - Carol wouldn’t have been able to help in time anyway. Thanos’ plan is a galactic problem with long-lasting consequences, and Fury may not have even realized that the Avengers in were such a bad spot (they had 3 stones at the beginning of the film), so he only calls her when he realizes they’ve lost.

Been thinking about it myself since the movie. I'm going with in Avengers there wasn't enough time to rely on outside help and he already had a tea of heroes, same with Ultron, but when another alien invasion happens, Iron Man goes missing, a second attack happens and then people start falling into leaves before his eyes, yeah, emergency that needs off-world help. Even so, he could have used it earlier.

It's simple in my opinion, Fury had a plan in each of the other situations and he knew what was going on. Aliens attacked, okay - The Avengers can fight them, and they can be killed by traditional means. A super-charged helicarrier system can take out a 1/3 of the world, okay - they were built by S.H.I.E.L.D. and can be disabled with some hacking, etc... But when he saw Mariah turn to dust, he didn't understand what he had just seen and didn't even have an idea of what to do about it. So - he calls the Ace up his sleeve that he's clearly been keeping pretty close to his chest for decades. To me, Captain Marvel is the person that Fury knew to call if he ever came into a situation in which he had no clue what to do. And so he did.

But the fact that Nick Fury knows about Captain Marvel undermines everything the Avengers have fought for throughout their films. It tells them that they're nothing more than a consolation prize compared to the shiny gold medal that is Captain Marvel because Fury could've called her to deal with the aliens and killer robots instead of relying on a group of dysfunctional warriors who will turn on each other every chance they get.

I think Fury thought that as long as he is there and he has the avengers , they'll be safe but he didn't know how many/if the avengers survived so , thinking there is a chance of no one surviving , not even him , she paged her . Plus she told him to only call if there's an extreme emergency and yeah , NY and Sokovia were pretty nasty but he had the avengers , and himself to help

I think he decided to push the button because the car crash, helicopter, and Maria Hill dusting told him that The Avengers had lost. He didn't know yet that there was an immidiate threat to his life when he made the decision. In all the other cases the planet was still defended by several people whose powers more than rivals CM.
