Ironically enough, the show The Boys, had a moment in season three where they parodied this with the “girls get it done” thing. Then in the last episode when all the woman team up to beat the shit out of storm front it was organic and done right. I loved game of thrones by the way. For me, The Little Mermaid was the turning point. I don't actually hate the film, and there some things about I like (Grimsby getting a little more to do, performances that were mostly ok), but it was the first time I really felt that I was watching a hollow films with actors stuck having to repeat things that the original did. And while Halle Bailey was fine and is not responsible for the creative decisions, I hated the argument of 'a mermaid is a fictional being so her race doesn't matter.' Then changing it means nothing, and given there's a new kids show where Ariel is black, Disney clearly did it to justify the remake and try to make an appeal to that audience. I can't speak for African-Americans/black people, but I also thought, "Does Disney really think that they will embrace a 'new classic' that is that same story white people already did? Especially when there ARE stories about mermaids in African culture?"

The reason they don't do that is because it's all about being reactionary. They don't want to create new characters, because their goal was never to actually TRULY represent minorities. Race appropriate would be the term I would use. What doesn't make sense is to base any hiring on some DEI quota system. Especially when you're talking about characters who have traditionally been one race. That's what people hate; changing the race, sex, gender, orientation simply to satisfy some identity politics shenanigans. And to have a decidedly prejudiced application of that rule (e.g., while Disney felt okay replacing white Ariel with black Ariel in the Little Mermaid, the folklore is actually from Denmark. They understand demographics, want to reach the broadest markets possible, and they’ve jumped the gun. They’re 10 to 20 years too early, and their releases are much too saturated, and far too soon. Okay, when the race of a character doesn’t matter to the plot or their arc, if the actress is the best one for the job, they should absolutely cast them, no matter the race. Hailey Bailey is an amazing Ariel, she perfectly fits the wide-eyed, curious character.

Yes, the freak it does. The author took great to explain that the little mermaid that Ariel is based off of is white that is mentioned numerous times in that story and she’s white with red hair in the animated Disney movie Bailey and sister on keeping her stupid dreadlocks which Ariel does not have, and don’t get me started on the lackluster act was not for the role. She was literally bought and paid for by Beyoncé who told them if Bailey wasn’t in the next Disney movie the lion King remake would be the last thing she ever does for Disney bought her that role, but you’re not ready.

I don't understand Bob. Most of theyre classic Disney movies have a diverse culture or character. We want more african. Well but didn't you guys made the lion king and now Iwaju? We want more princesses with different races so we'll race swap Ariel adn Snow white. Yeah but you guys have Mulan, Pocahontas, Tiana and now Asha. We want them to send the audience a message. But what is the message? Diversity is not a message. The movies like Cinderella, the lion king, Mulan, beauty and the beast and so on had a great and meaningful message anout responsibility or loving someone from the inside not outside. You gus hate sttong female characters. Uhm no. We love the movie Mulan and Kim possible. Kim possible was popular because back its time there wasnt many female heroes. Now theres only female heroes that are perfect in every single way. Also why blame the audience? Its perfectly fine if you don't like something m critiscm is there so that you can improve not to bash on something. I mean Disney still can produce some bangers I mean 2 years ago we had Encanto this year we got Inside out 2 wich was fantastic and theyre upcoming movies are Deadpool and Wolverine and Moana 2. I hate Bob and Kathleen. They should both be fired for an eternity and never get a job from the movie industry!

It's too bad Hollywood doesn't give awards for being dignified.

Diversity has two definitions, first is the reasonable and admirable definition that respects that everyone has different traits, gifts, and talents. The other is the Marxist or “woke” one where the oppressed has the right to discriminate and gain vengeance against the oppressors. Keep in mind that a certain Far East Asian country that refers to itself as Communist and practices Communist principles essentially controls Hollywood.

If Apple buys Disney then it would come around full circle. Hopefully, other companies will pick up on the errors of Disney and other companies that have pushed DEI & learn from it. I also think that the problem is not diversity and what that means is you can create wonderful stories as a whole because you can have diverse characters. However, the main problem is when you force it into the story that is where the main issue lies. A story contains plot, conflict (both inner and outer-while inner is what usually drives the character's motivation for doing things), character, setting, point of view, as well as themes. There are both good and bad examples of this. An author's main purpose is to either inform, persuade, or entertain. Usually when it's to persuade is for essay purposes or debates. Inform is usually for educational purposes, similar to what we would see in documentaries. While the average moviegoer goes to movies or TV shows as a means of escape. And when you replace what shapes what makes good TV or films with something that would maybe only be seen in a persuasive, argumentative essay, or debate and try to force it into a story or genre where both of those narratives don't go together they evidently crash together and everyone suffers as a result. Timeless truths used to be the bread and butter that held up many of the stories we would see in movies and shows but sadly that's slowly starting to become a thing of the past.

I get legitimately angry when I see people believing that Disney’s idea of diversity and progressivism are true to these concepts. There is a huge difference between “preaching” and “storytelling with a message.”Thousands of good stories with progressive messages are LOVED by people who crow about “disney is trying to push an agenda!” Disney is not trying to push an agenda. They are trying to use a warped, twisted interpretation of progressivism to market their shitty, creatively corrupt new products. At this point I’m convinced their heavy-handedness with “social messages” is some kind of ploy by right-wing Disney executives to undermine genuinely important social movements like intersectional feminism. No true activist, no true left-wing individual, no true socialist or feminist actually supports Disney’s bullshit. Only neoliberal center-right idiots who want to virtue signal actually pretend to like Disney’s recent shitty remakes and lackluster original products, and most of these people are millenials and gen Xers with their own kids, who just want an hour of entertainment they can mindlessly turn on for their family to watch. My other theory is that the corporate groupthink environment of Disney has rotted the brain of everyone in creative leadership roles to the point where they are scared to propose anything that doesn’t have the same twisted, overly-simplified forced messages thrown in, whether it’s the plot or choosing who to hire for the project. That’s how you get out-of-context clips from these hacks saying that they won’t hire white men, or that they only want gay characters, whatever. It’s all virtue signaling, to disguise their continuing to fall short on creating compelling art. Like you say in the video, most of the problem here is the corporatization of storytelling rather than allowing for the vision of individual artists, and the oversaturation of the entertainment market in an attempt to gain the most return on investment for shareholders.

I do get there is some injustice in regards to black people. But that needs to corrected somewhere else and not in the movies or other kinds of entertainment. Woke is a thing but I do give it to Bob Iger that it’s overused by MAGA cultists. But it’s still a thing. The problem has its roots in America 🇺🇸 where there’s no political middle ground. Either there’s a an extreme right wing or an extreme left wing and that’s a problem. But Donald Trump and his cronies abuse the term on a regular basis. But that doesn’t change the fact that woke exists. Do this through political reforms and not in my entertainment.

I don’t need to watch the video because I ALREADY know why. They want money. They want certain groups of their audience to come watch a movie because it’s relates to them. Small issue with that. These groups only make up about 15 PERCENT at least of the audience. They should make a good movie or tv show just to make a good movie or tv show. Not shove their “woke=cash” tactic into everything. You can make a good LGBTQ or Black character to be one of the stars of a movie or the main character, but you can’t make them a caricature and have their whole entire personal be a LGBTQ or Black individual. The average audience will and has noticed it, and it is becoming annoying. They want to represent everyone, but they are doing it for profit, not because they really want to. The CEO of Disney and their board could give a rats ass about the LGBTQ community or the Black and any other minority group. They want money and nothing more, so they will do anything to get it, including making boom after boom for the sake of (false) representation.
