There were several tips to best experience the ride: 1) Adults should ride solo 2) Once the air turns on and your tire is floating, center your body weight in the middle of the tire for balance 3) Gently lean in the direction you want to travel 4) Make sure to not lean too far on one side, otherwise the bottom of your tire will hit the ground. And that could be a real "drag" 😅 5) Keep gently leaning into an area of long empty stretch of floor. This way your tire can build up enough speed and momentum to crash into other tires or bounce off the ride perimeter. Cast members would often ride with guests at the end of every night and really show how much fun the ride can be. In order to get enough running space to gain enough speed, less tires needed to be in the ride path. But that would also result in lower hourly capacity

Hovercraft dodgeball sounds awesome actually. If they can move at a reasonable speed, with reasonable safety. But I've seen how bad people are at learning how to control themselves in indoor skydiving, you can't expect a group of people to co-ordinate their tilt, especially when little kids are involved. Why would bigger vehicles be the solution when surface area increases slower than volume? Maybe a bigger area with more vehicles would be a better solution to rider capacity.
@knightwolf35112 ай бұрын
that's when softy waivers comes in but my thought for the valves you can have a top down or 4 corner that scans the ride area to detect where the cars are and have valves under them to open up just under them and then close up when no ride is there. other idea is tiny sensors or magnet when it detects a car, so while air from car is pushed down, air from the floor is pushed up

Same thing goes with monster and other rides that rely on gravity to spin. Learning how to coordinate with a partner is hard but even my yourself there still is quite a steep learning curve to spin fast. It took me months to be able to just be able to spin the entire cycle on monster starting up in the air but starting on the ground took many more months. Getting 180-240 rpm for 2 minutes is very exciting

@diesixdie22 ай бұрын
I rode it a couple of times. It was fun. I think if they did some work to make the tires faster and a bit easier to steer, they would have had a winner. As it was, it was fun trying to coax your ungainly tractor tires to run into each other. They should have scaled them down to a size similar to the old "farting" saucers, in Tomorrowland. Make the floor valves actively electronically controlled, by using vehicle position and speed sensors, instead of just relying on pressure differential to open and close, and you'd get a faster vehicle. Send the vehicle positions to the floor valves, and use THAT DATA, and not just pressure pressure differential to control the valves. The system could detect acceleration and optimize the opening and closing of valves, and possibly even adjust press in individual ones to increase the speed of the tire. They could also add short, collapsible air dams around the undersides of the tires, to minimize surface resistance, while holding pressure to make over-leaning less draggy and finicky. Yeah, of course guests aren't going to _read the instructions_. Don't expect them to. Engineer for distracted people, on vacation. Always. This could have been an excellent ride, but they went cheap and easy on the engineering. And, dude, Rocket Rods really was a good ride. It was destroying the People Mover track with structural fatigue, since it was not designed for high speed vehicles rapidly accelerating and decelerating. Fun as it was, it wrecked the elevated track structure it rested on. Superstar Limo was, indeed, the worst Disney ride of all time, so far. It was the one ride you mentioned that deserved the criticism.

A cast member was required to deliver the safety and flying instructions to guests before being grouped into their tires. So a lot really depended on the quality of the cast member's spiel. In between ride cycles, the queue would quiet enough for the cast member to be heard by guests. But not everyone figured that out.

I went to cars land with some family near it's initial opening (mightve actually been within the very first few days of its opening?) and actually went on Luigi's Flying Tires. It was about as boring as you gave it credit for. I remember throughout the line how hard they pushed for guests to learn to control it with leaning, especially over the speakers; every single time a new set of riders started, sometime during their experience the music would quiet and Luigi would go on this whole shpiel to everyone waiting in line about watching how the people currently on are controlling their vehicle and iirc it'd be the exact same *every* single time. Whenever I think of this ride I remember Luigi saying "See how they *leeaan*[?]" and get a little ticked off because that got annoying pretty quickly lol. So I wouldn't put the onus too much on guests being on their smartphones too much to pay attention as Bob Gerr (or however you spell his name) did, I think it's also that since it seats multiple people (i don't think there even was an option to ride alone) everyone has to agree on where to move so you're gonna have to be like "uhh, lets go over here I guess." Going on in multiple groups was a good idea though, targeting each other to purposefully bump into one another was kinda fun because it was easy to agree where to move to and get to where you wanted, but overall you're just meandering around awkwardly and slowly, getting little payoff with any bumps, making the beach balls carry the ride as others have agreed. Maybe if they made some kind of game out of it, like these little lights on the ground that'd give or take away points depending on what color they were and you all had to collect/avoid all the right ones by riding over them and outscore everyone else. To be fair, I do recall that I was kinda excited (or wanted to be) to ride it initially just because I liked the concept of riding in a hovercraft like that, but i think it began to wane the closer we got in line.

I'd usually ride alone or with a small child (my own or with one of my nephews) and I could never mange to steer it very well, esp. in the direction of where my passenger was. But its replacement is a lot of fun too. Btw, seeing the footage of Cars Land and CA Adventure at night really brings back memories. My family used to have annual passes so we'd always hit the Parks at least once a month, usually more. But we stopped going years ago because it just got to be too expensive. But seeing the footage of Cars Land really make me miss going to the Parks, and seeing and hearing the Mark Twain's whistle as it goes along River of America really makes me nostalgic for the Parks. I really wish that Disney hadn't gotten so greedy and/or stupid and raised the price of tickets and APs os much over the years. It's ridiculous how much it costs to go to Disneyland and/or CA Adventure these days.

Disney should consider having a reimagined "largest bumper car ride in the world" attraction, at least eight times the size of a normal bumper car arena, perhaps with assorted interactive elements. However, they need to turn down the "wallop factor" in the bumper cars they get. I rode the classic Lusse bumper cars they have at Knoebels Park ONCE (and never again), because those things really pack a W-A-L-L-O-P you won't soon forget. Might be too much for Disney, though.

California Adventure actually opened in 2001, not in 2010 as was mentioned in the video. Confirmed on Google, and I went there the year it opened. Apart from that error, enjoyed the video :) ❤️🌈

Luigi's Flying Tires was a good concept, it just was not taken far enough. The "Play field" was too small, and/or the tires were too big. One result was everyone getting clustered in a corner, with no where to go. Also, it IS always worth mentioning that, with Rocket Rods, they WERE properly designed by Tony Baxter with banked turns. Paul Pressler's budget cuts killed that.

I went in 2016. I didn’t realize at the time, but I guess the Luigi car ride was really new then.

Magic Mountain had bumper boats in the 70s. So much fun.

I went on that ride a few times with different people. It seemed like it was trying to be a life sized foozeball table. I thought combining it with bumper cars was a fun idea. Shame it wasn't executed as well as it could have been.

The thing that gets my goat about this ride are the lazy pasta puns in the line section.

I can't help but miss the tires. They were so cheesy, and the Rollickin' Roadsters just make me sick.

It's weird how these rides can both seem like really boring to do... and also seem like fuck wish u would've been able to do it while it was possible though :)

I lived in Ca when they built DCA and I remember thinking the park was lame lol. As a kid/teen who went often to Disney I had no interest in going over to the other park. And it kind of sucked they took out a nearby parking lot to make what felt like a small kid park at the time. The hate for it was so real that that as an adult with kids of my own, when I went back with them in 2023 we didn't go over to DCA. They asked about it, and it was thanks to them that we went over in may 2024. And its not all that bad, if I was a local we could go over for a few of the rides, but that is about it. I never even knew about the tire ride, I did know the limo one was gone and bugs land was gone, so learned something new.

We actually got to ride with the beach balls in Summer 2012. They weren't there long! (That was our first ever visit to Disneyland.) Then we rode it once without the balls. It was a so-so ride. I honestly don't think much of the new ride - it's really, really dull. Much prefer Mater's Junkyard Jamboree.

I got to go on that during Carsland previews...with Castmembers and the beach balls. Turns out, everyone was over heading the beach balls at each other. LOL
