I use fabric fusion glue, but only to reinforce the backs of safety eyes. I would never, ever use hot glue on a stuffy, and rarely for anything else anymore. Crafting hot glue (not industrial) is very unstable, it comes off of everything eventually. I haven’t yet used felt on an amigurumi pattern, but if I did, I would definitely sew it on with sturdy (hand quilting or button) thread. Yes, it takes longer but if I’m giving it to someone or selling an item, I do not want it to fail, and possibly worse, cause a health issue.

I use finger covers that I got in the candle making aisle at hobby lobby. Three for $1.99. They are like rubber thimbles and they protect my fingers when I am working the smaller pieces of my Amigurumi.

I find using a piece of vividly coloured yarn as a stitch marker is a lot easier to 'chrochet around' as I've only been crocheting a few months.
@WindyHillCrochet
@WindyHillCrochet 6 ай бұрын
I agree. With the grippier yarns especially. But if I'm working on a longer project and I have to put it in a bag and maybe take it with me someplace, the security of the locking stitch marker is nice. Thanks for watching!

I find decreasing alot more challenging and it is taking me a long time to recognize which stitch to work into straight after the invisible decrease. I resolved to put a brightly coloured straight pin into the last stitch i was increasing which helped me to know to put my hook into the stitch after the straight pin.
@WindyHillCrochet
@WindyHillCrochet 6 ай бұрын
I agree. Once you finish the decrease stitch, many want to work right back into that decrease stitch because the yarn pulls so far to the right it's hard to see! Once you get use to it, you feel more comfortable skipping over that stitch. I know if I keep my eyeballs on it I don't make a mistake, but sometimes that's impossible with many distractions. Good idea on the pin. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve used hot glue. The key is not too much. I started that because Nellas Cottage does it with her projects. I’ve used hot glue for shank eyes as well. Easier to place eyes on small plush items . I tend to do more embroidered eyes as then I don’t have to worry about how old the receiver of the stuffy is. I tend to put up warnings about safety eyes being for over 3 years. Enjoying your channel.

There is a fabric glue that won’t come off even with washing. Ask someone at the fabric store for this glue. I’ve used it for making fabric squares for a blanket and applying stickers of fabric on projects.

What a fun video to watch! So relatable on so many levels! Ugh! I used hot glue on Talulah, but I don’t love it. Someone told me they made a crochet circle instead, and just sewed it in. I’m doing that from now on!
@WindyHillCrochet
@WindyHillCrochet 7 ай бұрын
I was wondering what you thought of the hot glue! I made the Isla turtle and used some scrap tea towels I had and didn't even sew since it was so small. I would probably sew for the Talulah though since it's so much larger!

Great tips! In a future tip video your following might like inclusion of using worsted yarn for magic circle base with chenille/velvet, etc., that helps with yarn breaking when tightening circle (and burning tip of that chenille to stop fraying). Thanks for the links!

I'm new to crochet and I wish I could have seen more of what you were talking about stitches popping out and 'sticking' etc. I was lost with just the talking. I finally learned the magic loop but crocheting thick yarn is tough. I am determined to learn plushies though. Just need good tutorials Tfs

Thank you so very much for explaining the yarn under stitch and why you are using it. Also, do you use the under stitch all of the time or just in amigurumi projects? Also, I am making the Mama Made Mini’s Lovey’s but I’m having a hard time understanding how to stitch the legs to the body. Would there be anyway you could make a video that shows and explains better how to do that? You are both precious and I am really enjoying and learning a lot from your channel. Please keep up the good work and happy stitching.😊🧶
