The US Virgin Islands are an unincorparated territory. Meaning they are owned, physically, as land, by the U.S. Government. They have an independent government, but are not part of the U.S., per say. Think of it like the Queen owning property that has nothing to do with the rest of the U.K. Still don't get it? Another example: You and your blokes want to start a club for cool guys. You all have your own house (The U.S. population, and their individual state lands). You guys have meetings, but to make it fair, they aren't held at anyone's house. So you guys buy a supercool club house! (Washington DC!). Now y'all can have votes on supercool parties! But don't get crazy, y'all can't tell Frank to mow his lawn, if he doesn't what to! ( that would violate states rights!). Now Frank's wife thinks he should take her out more often. All the other wives think so too. Now this is none of the club's business, but at the next meeting they take vote on it, and Frank loses! The guys must've caught an earful from their wives! (State's rights can only go so far. If the population of one state is being mistreated, they can appeal to U.S. government themselves. So everyone in the States are also part of the U.S. government, though indirectly.) Okay, the clubhouse is getting full of man-junk, so they purchase the house next door. But the club runs out of money, so they decide to rent the house out to a family. (US territories and inhabitants). Okay, these guys are definitely not in the club, dammit! They have no say! (Inhabitants have no representation in US government). But they have tenant's rights (basic human rights), and the landlords have to provide water, electricity, etc. I think that's basically it. No offense if you live there and know better. Also sorry if the domestic issues in the example offfended anyone!

@mickeyrube66235 жыл бұрын
@mPky1 I don't know that much about the Isle of Man, or the Channel Islands. But: 1. The residents of the U.S. Virgin Islands are citizen of the United States. They can not vote for the POTUS, but can freely move to another state, and do so. 2. They have a Representative in the House, but he (she?) can only vote in committee (where they vote on what to vote on, when to vote, complain about seating [seriously]). Can't actually vote on what they actually voted on to vote on. 3. They have no Senator. 4. They pay the same amount of taxes as other U.S. residents, but a significant portion of it goes back into the Islands, or at least the government of the Islands (I think, it was hard to figure out what that really means). As far aI know the Isle of Man has no equivalent representative in Parliament, not even a token one. Could be wrong though.

Sonny O'Cad Iran is one of those country names that means “our country” in Farsi or something like that, so Persians (and eastern Azeris and Kurds) always called it Iran. However the state’s English-language name was officially “Sublime State of Persia” and later “Imperial State of Persia” until the Pahlavi dynasty requested that the state’s English name be changed to “Imperial State of Iran” in 1935. In 1979 when the revolution occurred, the state’s English name became “Islamic Republic of Iran”.
