I feel like EVs should get cheaper and easier to maintain. People who might not be car enthusiasts but prefer to fix their own cars for cost efficiency should be able to do so. People who have more important stuff to worry about like having reliable transportation over saving the planet shouldn’t have to choose. We’re a minority as far as car enthusiasts. If we want to keep our gas powered cars, I think we need to have general population cars more accessible to the people who absolutely need cars and don’t have local public transportation. So long as oil companies keep gas pumps available for us in the minority, we’ll be fine.

problem is that they will tax gas powered car registration and gas prices so much that you will basically be paying 10x the price of an electric car, I live in California and they are doing that already. they will promise you can keep your gas cars and that they would never even think about trying to take them, but then they will turn around and make it financially impossible for those who dont spend thousands of dollars on mods alone, the daily driving car enthusiast will have to settle for an ev.

Read every comment? Okay, here goes then, I'll give you an honest take: I'd toyed with the idea of upgrading from a 25 year old car primarily in the name of safety. I then bought my last car based on an article I read about how exceedingly well it performed in safety testing. It turned out to be powered by electricity. That electric power train was also a novelty, and I like being just a little off the beaten path for whatever reason. I'm just wired to be attracted to "unusual" or niche tech. Overall, the experiencing of driving and using it has been great. The only real complaint I have after more than two years of driving it is that it's expensive. It's far more expensive than a similarly nice-to-drive vehicle. Maybe also that it has also come with some social baggage and negative attention that I'd rather just not have to deal with. It's just a car. I wish I could park it down town without having to worry about some jackwagon keying it, causing thousands of dollars of damage in an instant. Nobody would give it a second look if it were a Corolla. They're invisible. I wish I had that level of anonymity when I'm out. I'd probably have been better served with a brand new Camry or something similar, investing or saving the difference. They're not -as- safe, but they're still vastly safer than my old car. I'd never have known what I'd be giving up in terms of performance because I had never had a car that was truly fast before. The torque goes from 0 to 610 lb-ft as fast as you can smash the peddle. It's violent. A Camry isn't going to be that fun. Nor would I have been used to the convenience of always starting the day with a full "tank" and just basically never worrying about fueling up again outside of the occasional extended trip. There is never a good time to fuel up. It always feels like it comes at the worst time like on the way to work in the morning. They're not perfect, and I'd rather have never experienced the truly good parts this early in the game. But, what's done is done and here I am. Trading for equal or lesser price now would feel like a downgrade. Trading for equal performance in the gas-powered world would cost a lot more than I can afford. I'm stuck, ironically, because they're good.

That fact right there shuts down EVs to anyone with half a brain and the ability to pay attention. There's reason EVs are hated by so many, people that can do their own research and common sense. We've had zero advancements in batteries, only how we charge them, make them etc basic composition remains the same. They still degrade, they're still hazardous to produce, store and dispose of. Now look at the short life of a EV, Tesla you can't even repair without Tesla taking you off the charging grid. Good luck mid trip charging !! If you can get your Tesla repaired via through Tesla, more than likely the insurance company will just total it due to downtime (6-9 months for repairs of even the smallest damages) Hybrid I think is fine, capacitors to store electricity vs batteries for the bulk of the work. Look at F1 for instance, best of both worlds with zero downtime. EV will never have that, it's a Liberals fake promises to force a economic shift. EV technology isn't there by decades, tech trickles down from Aeronautics, Space and Racing to the consumer. Never in reverse, never !! EV when you sit down isn't feasible for 99% of the population. The only thing I really have against EV's (at least for right now) is that they seem to only really be viable for people who live in certain areas. Mainly those who live in big cities/metropolitan areas, and/or places where winters are either very mild, or non-existent. Where I live, winters can be quite harsh at times, and I'm also in a somewhat rural area where the nearest tesla charging station (that I'm aware of) is a little over 15 miles from where I live. There's also the fact that I live in an apartment building, and an old one at that, with no access to a garage or anything so at home charging would be tricky, if not outright impossible for me. I also occasionally like to go on somewhat long road trips so "range anxiety" would definitely be a concern there. I like the idea of EV's, but I just don't feel that they're practical enough for everyone to be able to comfortably own one, at least not yet
@giacomoneri1782 Жыл бұрын
And i mean, it's fine, they have different purposes and different users. The problem is when governments bans the alternatives. That would straight up mean leaving most people without a car, or forcing them to use very old cars with so many taxes, expenses and limitations. That's what's disgusting, not the EVs

The problem with EVs is charging them. I happen to rent (so no 220v home charging) and I also live in an area that has very few publicly available chargers, they're all in super inconvenient locations for me. It's just not practical. There's at least a dozen gas stations that are all closer than the nearest charging station, and I can fill my tank a lot faster than I can fill a battery. It would save money but it would cost time. A lot of time. And that's just not worth it for me. Maybe in a few years once the infrastructure finally catches up in my area, but until then I'm sticking with gas.
@trekkifpv1976Ай бұрын
Honestly sir you've hit the problem right there I'm a massive EV fan I happen to live in an area more convenient in terms of infrastructure infact there's an EV charger in my apartment complex but yes the only real issue with widespread EV adoption isn't the technology it's infrastructure there are a lot of potential fixes for that problem it's just that those with the power to make it happen (government and big business) so far won't because there making to much money with the other horse
@nope1918Ай бұрын
@@trekkifpv1976 The problem is lack of incentive. Seems like in other countries the governments poured lots of money into ensuring that EV charging stations got built (and maintained) to support EVs. Here in the US, we're leaving it to "the market." And the market has no incentive, because not enough people drive EVs to demand it. But without charging stations nobody is going to buy an EV cause they can't charge it. Everyone is waiting for someone else to make the first move. It's been three years since I made that comment and there's been exactly zero new charging stations built in a 50 mile radius of my home. I also want an EV but I still wouldn't be able to charge the damn thing.
@trekkifpv1976Ай бұрын
@@nope1918 for the most part I agree there needs to be greater government involvement in building and standardizing charging stations but for most of the country there is adequate tho there needs to be more stations for the cars to be usable by most of the population I should stress the fact that I agree there does need to be more then there is Side note have you heard of the aptara solar EV it's only a 2 seater so not practical for family's and it's a 3 wheeler so only appeals to those of us that like odd things but if fitted with the 100kwh battery it has a theoretical 1000mile range and in ideal conditions can regain 40 miles of range just by sitting in the sun all day and the panels will change as ur driving
