Everyone’s favorite retro rock band, Under the Streetlamp, delivers an electrifying evening of classic hits from the American Radio Songbook, bringing their unique blend of tight harmonies and slick dance moves to your favorite old time Rock ‘n’ Roll, Doo-Wop and Motown hits. The group was founded by leading cast members of the Tony Award-winning sensation JERSEY BOYS. When their run in that show ended, they formed Under the Streetlamp as a musical celebration. The guys have performed in over a dozen shows on Broadway and have performed all over the world in countless other shows including: 42nd STREET, FORBIDDEN BROADWAY, RENT, AMERICAN IDIOT, GOOD VIBRATIONS: The Beach Boys Musical and THE BOOK OF MORMON. Performance after performance, they prove that retro never sounded so now!

Not only was his voice distinct but he has very good vocal diction and projection in order to make the words and song sound so sharp. I’m surprised no one realizes that most of the 50s had very good vocal diction. As well as good projecting technique without needing a microphone. For instance everyone says why, whyyyy, tell me whyyyyy. When it’s actually tell me Wha - Hi- uhhh - eye- awww - uh - hi. Tell me why - uh - hi- y . So it’s w- eye- aww- o- eye- aww- uh- hi- y . Tell me w- aaa- a uh- hi. Idk if that’s makes sense but Frankie lymon had really good diction. He said w at the beginning and didn’t add the y till the very end. Why do birds “S - ing, So’ g-ay. And lu-v-ah-s a wait the bre-ak of d-ay, why do they fall in luv - a. I can’t explain it. I know I’m not saying the diction right but I’m trying to point out how he’s singing the song and how he’s projecting certian parts to make them sound sharp or stronger. W- ii- do birds s-eee- ing so’ g-ay (as if your saying yay) and lov a-s aw-ake (like lov as a wait the bre aak uh d-ay (yay) the bre-ak of d-ay. Why do they fall in luv-ahh. W-ii-y does th-uh- a rain fall from ‘up a-bove. Why do f-ools fall in lo-ve (lo -be or bve as certian letters are harder to pronounce and won’t sound right) why do they f-all in luv- ah. Lu-ve is a l-ooos-ing game, la-ve can b-ee ah-shamed, I know of the fool you see, for , that , fool is m-ee, tell me w-iiii- ahh-iii-aww-uh-hiii tell me w-uh-ii-y. W-iii-does my h-ar-t skip aa cr-azy beeat for I kno-w it will reach defeat, tell me w-iiii- aawww-uh-eye awe-uh-hi, tell me wa-huh-hi-y. Why do fools fall in lu-ve The y is always very last, s is last and just like real vocal diction with certian letters you pronounce different ways is exactly what he’s doing. He uses the same vocal diction for every version of this song and other songs. So I know someone who knows diction would understand. However if you read or try singing the song the way I just pronounced it, you’d see I’d kind of sound like what Frankie lymon is doing and he uses a lot of rolls or runs. Such as at the end such as heart - hu- are-t , for I no-o-o-o it will reach define tell me w-iii-awww-iii-Awee-uh-hi tell me w-ii-uh-hi-y Fo-o-ol that runs up and down . He does a lot of runs or short rolls in the nots. Or loosing, lo-oo-oo-zing game So part of what’s hard is no one can sing it, only a few have been able to but most of all it’s the dictation that ruins the song as it was really the diction and projection of the song that made it great

@@1980bwcyes but Frankie lymon a voice got low and he had a nice warm buzz high low. What bothers me the most is the diction is what messes up the song and projection of it

This is one of my all time favorite songs and these guys bring a new level to it. Wow, I was ten in '56 when this song came out and this is the best cover I've ever heard.

Do not try to remake Doo Wop music! It doesn’t work! Frankie Lymon had a distinct voice and the music had a distinct beat, and this is complete garbage, not to mention an insult to not to music of that day but Frankie Lymon’s legacy!
