I think the phrase "government shutdown" is a misnomer. Those of us who are frontline officers and federal employees are required to continue working without pay. Administrators, management, and other non-essential employees get furloughed and stay home. But at the airports for example, the air traffic controllers, the air marshals, the TSA, Customs & Boarder Protection, all keep working. We just don't see any paychecks for a while. It's ironic that private industry would never be allowed to do this.

Any financial support for the elderly such as social security benefits or medical benefits should be mandatory spending and should never be considered discretionary spending and neither party should have complete authority over shutting that down.

If the federal government shuts down then all Congressmen shouldn't get paid for as long as it lasts. Also, I still don't get why anyone who works for the federal government whether it be in Washington D.C., for the Postal Service, or at a National Park would vote for Republicans when every time there's a government shutdown that costs them their jobs it's because of the Republicans in Congress that caused those shutdowns.

The only time I've lost a job, it was directly linked to a Democrat administration in office. I know a lot of people like me too.

@@Wolfcamp555You do realize the 2020 recession wasn't even caused by Trump, right?

Democrats were in charge when we last had a surplus in the budget

@polivepea yes and no. Republicans had the house and senate, Democrats had Clinton in the White House. Neither party gives a rip about the consequences we will have from the mountain of debt.
