So I agree. I had a 99/2000 Honda Super Blackbird CBR1100 with CBS ( combine breaking system ) . It was the world's fastest production motorcycle at the time. So Mr Honda decided if a newbie got out of control and hit the front brakes some of the rear would also come on ( like a 70/30 split in breaking force ) to keep the motorcycle in line and not get out of shape . Now I'm no Valentino rossi BUT after 47 and counting years in the saddle I want my front and rear to work Independently of one another. Example, if I went into a corner at speed just before the bend and tryed to scrub off some speed the bike would SIT UP and want to continue straight. 😵‍💫 See Honda didn't take into account people like me might actually push the bikes limits and this happened to me on a couple of occasions. So much so I took the plumbing sorry system off and Reverted back to independent front and rear brakes. 🤙😎🇬🇧🇺🇸

@ SandraOrtmann1976, Ah, where do You get the idea that a two wheeled Vehicle like a Motorcycle is only a one track vehicle? is it because they only have 2 wheels in a configeration of one directly behind the other? I'm a Motorcyclist with over 47 & a half years of riding experience which also includes11 & a half of those years as a Volunteer Motorcycle Instructor in that time so I'd like to pass on a little concept to You that We also used to teach in our Motorcycle Safety courses, this is something that not many People, including Motorcyclists, think about, until it's pointed out to them, even experienced Motorcyclists who have been riding for years, Ok, lets get into it, Ya see the front wheel is'nt a fixed object, it can be turned left & right as well as straight ahead & also be turned to full lock on both the left & right sides of the Bike so when the Bike goes around a bend in the road or turns a corner, it's not like a Car where the back wheels automattically follow the same track as the front wheels, on a Motorcycle, because of the lean angle of the Bike, the back wheel follows a track of it's own, which is to the outside of the front wheel whether the Bike is turning left or right, this concept is called outtracking because of the position of the back wheel when cornering, the only time it follows the same line as the front wheel is when the Bike is being ridden in a straight line so when a Motorcyclist goes around a bend or a corner, if He, or She, thinks about where the back wheel is in relation to the front wheel it makes for a much smoother manouver in the turn so the next time that You're behind a Motorcyclist & they take a bend or a corner, take a look at where their back wheel is in relation to where their front wheel is & You should be able to see that the back wheel is taking a wider track to the outside of where the front wheel is, I hope that this helps.

I work at a dealer so I ride a ton of different bikes.. I also daily an older Harley (2015) in every possible weather condition short of snow unless it starts snowing when I'm out.. my current bike has ABS, which has never once activated even while doing some emergency braking because someone cut me off.. I've owned multiple older bikes and they've never had ABS or traction control.. I spent quite a bit of time practicing hard braking.. spent more time practicing controlling the bike if the back tire locks up.. put me in just about any situation and I'll brake just up to the point of locking them up without actually locking them up.. the only exception was the one time I got stuck riding in snow.. I actually locked up the rear brakes once but it was fine because I had practiced for it.. Ill take my years of experience over some computer any day of the week

Harley's got high technology your millennial education will never be able to figure out .. but you y gens still say Harley's are like tractors , another common mistake , as John Deere tractors are tuned and monitored from outer space with a John Deere satellite in tidal lock with the rotation of earth so it's constantly right over your head watching everything you try to do to "their tractor" and if you try and turn up the smoke screw on the diesel pump your John deere will give you 30 seconds to put your modification back to stock the John Deere satellite will shut your tractor forever so it will never start up again until you pay John Deere to type into your ECU the correct codes so it will run again and at the same time your warranty is completely canceled on this $250,000 buck rig forever ..so you might as well find yourself a different hobby cause you will never afford farming again ,,, and it's coming boys and girls thanks to all you millennials who keep crying for more tech-no-lo-gyeeeeee wize walley why won't our new bike start up ? I don't know bev you didn't do any thing to it did you bev ? All I done was install an S&S air filter and a set of those S&S thunder pipes ! That's it then bev we might as well go buy a new bike rather than pay a $100 million bucks to have this one to restart ... Hey walley let's shoot down the sat with that big gun Eddie hasçle's got ... Won't work bev...why not walley ? Eddie's gone bev along with the gun the house And his bike all that left of Eddie is a big hole in the ground ... Seems the sats shoot back.... That's not how they work, they don't care how fast you take the corner. They monitor the difference in speed between the wheels. The equipment uses that information to discourage the back end from outrunning the front end so far that it's likely for the rider to end up in an unrecoverable situation. In all reality, as long as the system is setup correctly, the rider should never notice it is there unless they do something really dumb and is later trying to figure out how they managed to maintain control. Skill has nothing to do with it, humans don't have the reaction time to do what modern stability control systems do

I understand the concept that this could save someone who doesn’t know how to drive a motorcycle however it most definitely could cause an unpredictable situation for the driver who does understand exactly how to use breaking a inertia, the lien force, acceleration, front baking versus rear braking when the bike takes over for you. You no longer have immediate impulse response to those controls now the computer does it similar to antilock breaking when it first came out for people who knew how to drive rear wheel drive in snow it suddenly changed everything and it may have helped many people who do not know how to drive those who do most certainly lost control of their vehicles unfortunately, as much as I see the computer generative properties benefiting those who do not drive it most certainly causes a reckless situation for those who could otherwise control the machine correctly regrettably all of these advances do not help the seasoned driver, but rather inhibit them therefore it should be an automatic switch that can immediately shut those off upon request. I believe that’s available that should be the discussion.

Another issue surrounding the new improved Rider Aids on new Harley-Davidsons is as follows. Harley-Davidson is adding these AIDS to motorcycles whether you want them or not. It is no longer an option, so you're paying for add-ons which adds to the higher cost of the new bike whether you choose to use them or not. What is developing now is those who desire the rider aids may now be required to pay added monthly fees to HD to benefit from the use of the rider aids. it is one thing to spend $40,000 for a new motorcycle with the rider aids, and then be required to pay monthly fees to the dealership for the use of the abs system, traction control, etc. These technological advancements (rider aids) incorporated into each new HD should be included in the purchase price of the bike for those who want them, and not require ongoing payments from the customer afterward for their use.

My modern motorcycle 23MT 10 has all of the aids and I love it because that means not only does it have my back but I can set it up the way I want depending on how I’d like to ride! I mean seriously who wouldn’t want to have five different levels of wheelie control alone :-) it really is quite impressive on modern ride by wire motorcycles. I don’t necessarily disagree with the comment below mine. However, you can also turn all of the aids off if you don’t want them. Personally, from somebody who’s been riding since the early 1980s, I love the flexibility.

@mrgoodman6620
@mrgoodman6620 2 ай бұрын
It's great if you have full control over the system. I was raised ole school and was taught in the old trade of automotive engineering SAE AIME and I started to pick up the attitude and narrative of the old boys about modern electronics but I ended up in auto performance, custom and race cars, boats and bikes... Tell you what, after I got my hands on a REAL fully programmable ECU, I was an instant convert, got kicked out of the ole boys club lol. Had a customer keep coming back asking to set the rear geometry in different ways because he said it was stepping out more than it should. I actually did geometry setups for world class motor sport for a time, so I've got a reasonable idea what I'm doing and with good explanation of the drivers experience on track I could usually nail the setup straight away, but I couldn't see the problem on this one... The third time he came back, I set it how he wanted to try next but by that time I'd gained a better picture of how he was driving and that the 500 hp was a recent upgrade from the previous lesser 200 odd from stock. So I said try that but next time you come back, bring the hand programmer for your ECU. A week later he came back, he said nothing, handed me the keys and the programmer. I put the car up and set the rear geometry back to almost where he had it originally, then plugged in and dialled up the throttle sustain. He called me a week later and exclaimed "Your a fxyzing legend!" Yep I love tech. In all honesty my time in the game ended a decade ago and my opinion of tech appearing on bikes was sketchy but you ride, you approve so I'm guessing some bugs have gone LOL. I built my ex wife the most incredible sleeper that had things I've still not seen anyone do 20 years later, but my point is I had to settle for 3 present configurations (The glove box opened to reveal a laptop with full telemetry and live engine condition and management mouse pad no touch screen.. over 20 yrs now bro gime a break lol) because I realised something very early in testing... remembering what options were on and what was off!!! Cornering antilock braking system C-ABS does allow the biker more control stopping on a curve, but has its limitations. The old school, before and after ABS, straighten the bike, smoothly apply rear to load the front wheel and instantly the front still works when applicable. It’s always a recommended practice that both brakes are used for normal stopping, it becomes muscle memory in event of an emergency stop. You can lightly apply front as well as rear brakes in a turn to slow without C-ABS but practice. What C-ABS does not prevent the tire's total loss of traction due the size the patch of gravel, oil, sand, grass, etc. Harley’s Road Guide and Honda’s Gold Wing touring bikes with their low ground clearance have been videoed on the Tail of the Dragon, being dropped on a curve due to excessive lean, the bike’s frame hits the road, sparks fly, it lifts the bike, and tires lose traction. Most are loaded and have a pillion on board.

I think these aids are great and should’ve been implemented ages ago, but because these aids tend to malfunction, the basic rider who relies on them can find themselves in a deadly situation. One post said, should rely on the original skill set and I agree. Factor both in and you should be safer than those of us who had older bikes just utilizing skill. The problem also aid that most of these companies are charging extra for these rider aids.

Obviously, you know some people haven’t gone, extensive training, slow course training, or other training routes to learn trail breaking for one which I’ve used in dirtbike racing most of my life and I use with my big touring. Harley break through the corners that way in case of emergency situation, I am already pre-breaking and going to be able to stop, one time at extreme stop scenario my bike does not have ABS and my rear tire start locking up so I started pumping the rear brake as fast as I can along with pressure on the front and I was able to stop safely from 55 mph to 0mph

Yah, it helps BAD riders... BUT if you're an experienced rider, the bike wont do what it SHOULD do. Because of that REAL riders don't like a computer making changes. Interstellar comes to mind. "The only time I've ever crashed, is because a computer powered down."

Maybe I’m weird but I always thought avoiding the situations in the first place was the best way 😂 ….does nobody look where they’re going anymore? Do new riders really expect the rest of the world to cater to their needs? Look where you’re going, know that you’re invisible to EVERYONE except COPS

I ride to appreciate the simple things. The sound of the engine, the feel of the wind on my body, the smells of the land.. NOT to have screens, NO music, NO efi, NO abs, NO cruise control, NOT in a big hurry. Riders need to get back to the basics.

The biggest issue is a lot of people hop on the bike and barely get any training and assume because they can ride on the highway and up and down the road. They are proficient at biking. On top of the fact that the more safety aids on the bike, the more new riders are going Depend on those aids to correct bad habits they have formed that they aren’t aware are bad habits
