As a black man nothing upsets me faster than a black person testifying about a religious belief system that was forced on our ancestors, but he hasn't been culturally indoctrinated. Also he wouldn't be quiet long enough to hear or digest anything anyone was saying.

It is sad the way European empires did their best to enslave the world, and that their religion was right there when they arrived, along with the people carrying guns... And they succeeded _so well_ that the victims of their empire-building remain the greatest religious zealots centuries later.

Atheists deny reality and reason in their blind belief. They just REALLY hope to be right ;) Imagine wasting your life on something you CLAIM you don't believe in and you hate. One day some of you will realize this after much regret and shame. The empty, horrible, depressed, p--n-addicted, alcohol and antidepressant filled, degenerate lives that atheists live is also proof that God is saying the Truth about sin. They all check at least 2 or 3 of these things. And if you're a teenager living with your parents, you will become that way in the future, UNLESS you repent and give your life to Jesus Christ. I used to be an antitheist too. I was deceived by atheist lies, strawmans, fake studies, fake experts and frauds for many years so I know all the atheist "arguments" very well. I despised all religions and saw them as plagues upon humanity but then Jesus showed me the Truth like He also did for many other agnostics and atheists too. He'll do the same for you, if you seek the truth in a humble and sincere manner. I know at least some of you are able to do that if you truly want it. God already proved everyone that He exists and it's everyone's job to seek the Truth for themselves and to get right with Him. NO EXCUSES. All those who are SINCERE and actually want the truth will find God. Those that are not, should expect to receive nothing but deception(of any kind), misery and great confusion. The most degenerate atheists will find any excuse to deny FACTS and reality, including the Knowledge and Experience of billions of people(trough all history, I'm not talking all professing Christians, of course), as Christianity is a LIVING relationship with the Creator, not a dead religion of works and rituals, nor a blind, irrational belief like atheism is. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me WITH ALL YOUR HEART. Jeremiah 29:13 KJV

A few points that I have!... 1. Scientists say that a single cell organism arriving from elements is impossible. It would already need multiple complex functions all working in harmony right from the start. Thinking and moving, having a will, being able to split in two, consuming and excreting, managing whatever it intakes, surviving the elements, ect... Not to mention all of it's intricate components internally! It would have to blindly design itself from whatever was around it, and it would need to be able to think first before it could do that. 2. You are believing that the laws of physics just blindly created themselves and all of the complex life we see around us. Nothing has ever happened without a cause. How is it more believable that "it just happened" vs a designer being the cause? 3. None of us made ourselves, where were you before you were born into existence? And then when we die,... You don't think that it is possible to be born into existence again?
@jonovens7974
@jonovens7974 8 ай бұрын
@@hunterhestekin7420 1. That is called a 'strawman' argument....you describe something that sounds close to what happened, if you haven't learnt what did happen (what we already know). What you describe is actually creation and if it did occur would refute evolution. "....and it would need to be able to think.......".... Plants turn to the sun...do they think ? . Slime molds can navigate mazes...do they think? White blood cells will chase and envelope invading organisms.. do they think ? If your answer isn't automatically "of course not", and/or you fail to make the connection...then pls go look them up and find out. 2. And this is called the 'puddle analogy'. Go look that up as well. 3. Me, myself and I....What you think of as 'you' is a emergent property of your brain...."You" changed slowly (relatively) over time, and will continue to do so as your experience things. There was no "you" before you were born, and after your brain activity stops, there will be no "you" for the rest of time. There are decades and decades of medical records that show this beyond the shadow of any doubt. This is why a lot of atheists think believers are wasting the one and only life we know for sure is real, pining for a future life that has only ever existed in stories.

If only the townspeople of Sodom had been hospitable to Hermes and Zeus, Sodom would not have been destroyed. They came face to face with two gods and didn't recognized them. I'll bet they were Southern Baptists. In Ovid's moralizing fables collected as Metamorphoses is his telling of the story of Baucis and Philemon, which stands on the periphery of Greek mythology and Roman mythology. Baucis and Philemon were an old married couple in the region of Tyana, which Ovid places in Phrygia, and the only ones in their town to welcome disguised gods Zeus and Hermes(in Roman mythology, Jupiter and Mercury respectively), thus embodying the pious exercise of hospitality, the ritualized guest-friendship termed xenia, or theoxenia when a god was involved.

You said: "he moved those goal posts like it was nothing!" Yeah, ALTHOUGH he probably didn't know he did. My thought on the conversation are: This was a frustrating conversation. There was a lot of talking past each other. Johnny and Forrest was of course right, but the caller had "swallowed" a lot of argumentation about how the world works that probably are untrue (and unexamined), and they caused Johnny's and Forrest's words to be ineffectual. HERE ARE SOME "CON-MAN MINES" THAT I THINK IS IN THE CALLER'S HEAD (most likely): 1. The separation of "intellectualism" from "experience." He probably see experience as REAL and intellectualism as self delusion (the vanity of comparing wits with God). 1.b. His: - You can't tell me that my experiences were wrong. Now, this is true of course BUT: a) you cannot TRANSFER truth to another by saying YOU had an experience and b) human experience is NOTORIOUSLY unreliable! 2. The belief that there is a difference between "feelings" and "the Spirit" (these words were not used, but were almost CERTAINLY a premise for the caller's reasoning). The demagogs he listens to have separated out part of people's feelings and called it "the Spirit" so they can admit that, yeah you shouldn't follow your feelings, you should follow "the Spirit of God" 2.b. Emotional church techniques explained as «the Spirit of God," but that in fact is something psychology can explain 3. Confusion about what KNOWING is There are often other "mines" that I can't think of now, and together they tend to derail the conversation. «Arresting" them and showing their UNPRODUCTIVENESS could cause a lot of misunderstandings to go away

@skataguy5050
@skataguy5050 Жыл бұрын
@@tommy32408Seeing as how the claim of a god is an unfalsifiable claim, it can't even be proven wrong. At every step along the way of rational questioning into the belief of god, the believers could make excuses as to why those questions don't dismantle their worldview. It's the same thing as me saying, "I have a magical unicorn in my garage at home." Every step of the way of someone questioning the existence of my unicorn, I could give reasons as to why their questions weren't poking holes in my claim of a unicorn. "Could I see pictures of this unicorn?" "No, my unicorn is invisible." And so on and so forth. We have no way to prove the claim of a god wrong, just as we have no evidence to prove the claim of magical unicorns wrong. There's no way to prove either one of them wrong, but they also both lack any evidence to support their claims in the first place. A rational thinker should only hold viewpoints that are based on facts and evidence. There are no facts or evidence that support the existence of unicorns. However, that lack of evidence supporting the existence of unicorns isn't a valid reason to say that unicorns definitely don't exist or have never existed. So, it is not rational to say that they do or don't exist when you don't have concrete evidence for either claim. The same goes for god. You must simply not accept any and all claims until one of them provides sufficient evidence to do so. Lastly, even if atheists could disprove the claim of a god, that wouldn't be required for them to simply state their non-belief. The burden of proof ALWAYS lies on someone making a positive claim. Non-belief (the position of atheists) doesn't mean one is making any positive claims (claims like "God does/doesn't exist.") Non-belief simply means one doesn't believe the religious claims that a god exists due to the lack of evidence supporting the claim. To disbelieve a claim holds no burden of proof. One doesn't need to disprove the magical unicorn in my garage for them to have the ability not to believe my claim of a pet unicorn. It's the same way that atheists don't need to disprove god simply to say "I don't believe this claim due to the lack of sufficient evidence supporting it." Why make the extraordinary claim of a supernatural god's existence when there hasn't been any extraordinary evidence supporting that claim in the whole history of mankind?

Everything about him was documented by thousands of people such as birth, conversations he had with people, teachings, crucifixion, death, burial, witness accounts of rising from the dead on the 3rd day.Ascension to heaven witnessed by hundreds. Atheists believe other history books and documents, why not the bible? There are 66 books in the bible wrote and compiled from authors in different parts of the world with similar quotations and had never met or contacted each other. Hundreds of foretold bible prophecies have came true. There is documentation in the bible foretelling Jesus being born and what would happen to him 1000 yrs before it occurred I would say all of this is evidence and proof of God..

@@totallytravicious I think the perception of Forrest's naivete comes from his willingness to hear the same arguments over and over, and his earnest attitude while doing so, making it appear that he genuinely expects a different result, like the kid who just lost 10 rigged carnival games but is still excited to play the next one because he is SURE he will win this time. To some degree, I understand that it really is him just trying to give the benefit of the doubt, and the majority of the time he doesn't actually believe he will hear anything different, he is just willing to give people enough time to trip over their own words before he points out why they have fallen flat on their faces without him even doing anything. It can still be frustrating watching him talk in circles for 45 minutes with the same person, but a lot of that has to do with his background as an educator, which I can definitely understand and sympathize with, having done the same thing on multiple occasions. It is worth mentioning though, that there are some things which he will still IMMEDIATELY shut down, and refuse to even entertain for a moment, which is how I know that he isn't really that naive.

I always find the show to be stronger when there is one dominant voice, whether it was Matt or now Forrest. I get kind of frustrated when the co-host interrupts the train of thought of the host. Forrest (for example) has this measured, methodical way of politely leading the caller to the dead ends in their own arguments. But his more confident co-hosts usually interrupt his process for much more boring interactions filled with condescension or combative sniping. Forrest is good at meeting the caller where they're at, and starting his process there. In this call, Johhny seemed more interested in scoring cheap points by making fun of the caller's speech patterns. He was playing to the audience. Forrest tries to have an actual conversation with the caller.

It's funny when Christians bring up that Christianity is the only religion with a God sacrificing himself. They don't know anything about comparative religion and don't know how much the Bible stole from myths and folklore around at the time. The worst part is that Jesus barely sacrificed anything since he knew that he wasn't going to really die. Compare him to Prometheus who gave humans the gift of fire (and didn't put some stupid condition to use it). And he's continually suffering for it.

@@jquest99 Yeah, I'm definitely not a fan of Christian variants that claim salvation is granted simply by professing belief. Though they don't all do that. If you interpret the bible differently than them, faith without works is meaningless. And I think that a more true interpretation of the bible. I see where you are coming from, since if there is no requirement to stop sinning in order to be granted salvation, it makes a mockery of the claims of justice and accountability. There are versions of Christianity that insist following Jesus entails a lot more than simply believing in him. I'm not trying to blame folks for disagreeing on that theology. I blame the bible for being vague and somewhat inconsistent on that subject. Ok, maybe I blame the folks a bit for trusting that bible too much... I'm not going to make claims about Christian morality, until a coherent form of morality is defined and presented. And the label "Christian", is simply not sufficient. There is morality presented in the bible. Though it can be controversial, and interpreted in very different ways. I think the closest it gets to common ground for morality I can agree with, is the golden rule. The OT commandments are pretty hit and miss, and it's debatable which if any, are considered to be valid now.

Exactly. The experience was real, no question. That is, you had a subjective experience. It's possible to learn a lot about oneself from such experiences. But if there's no objective correlate to that personal experience, something that can be observed and examined by others, then we don't have anything to work with. We can't say that what you felt was real out here in the shared world. Your experience was a private one. Trippy things can happen in the mind, with or without pharmaceutical stimulation. One of the most useful insights is how real and authentic and coherent these experiences feel. We are literally living in another reality. It's a subjective reality, that's the point. And when we return to our ordinary reality, it's in some sense just as subjective. This is, I find, a good antidote to bigotry.

I understand why it’s so difficult and to some, impossible to think otherwise. I’m very glad I had the fortune of hearing someone challenge my way of thinking. After studying things I never knew, it all became crystal clear. I was wrong. You actually don’t change your mind, it changes itself given no other alternatives. Keep up the good work.

@@wizardsuth Interesting. I guess an ideology really is a virus that attacks the part of the brain reasoning resides. It all seems like a dream or like I’m in a movie. Billions of people are praying to invisible gods they are certain will hear them. Even when their prayer is not answered they dare not blame god. Those that have freed themselves of this brain virus must tread softly, less be killed in the name of god. Killed by people that will say god did it because of their disobedience. This is insanity.

@dot matrix firefly well, at least you ask the question. My journey started when I was laid up in bed with a broken ankle. I’m a guitar player and loves anything related to music so I stayed busy on KZbin. One pastor came up on my feed with the caption “ They will be no resurrection and Jesus is not coming back” Ray Haggins. I didn’t watch it at first thinking god would not approve. But it showed up two more days and finally I rationalized that god must want me to watch this so whatever lies he’s spreading I’ll be prepared to defend. So I watched… That was the first brick that fell and from then on there was no stopping what lay ahead of me. Just like the titanic, once enough water gets on board the ship MUST sink. I’m thankful it did even though most my family and friends know and still love me, I feel somewhat disconnected. I’m hoping they too will have some situation to break the spell. Religion is really holding all of society back and it’s by design.

There's a story from the third dynasty of Egypt in which the first Pharaoh, Djoser, received a visit from Kunum, the fertility god and creator of the nile. Kunum told him that the terrible famine that was plaguing Egypt at the time was punishment for allowing his temple to go to ruin. Djoser completely rebuilt the temple from scratch and miraculously the famine went away. Now many may be justifiably raising an eyebrow, thinking this is clearly a legend or at the very least a massive coincidence. Clearly the people of Egypt thought so because Djoser got the first pyramid of Egypt for his tomb. Anyway, the point is, Kunum spoke to Djoser. Would any Christian take that as evidence that Kunum is real? If the answer is no, then I have to ask, why on earth would any of them think that Jesus Christ speaking to them is any more compelling to make us believe in Jesus?
