If you sleep on your side at night try to `balance out` sleeping one side and the other - turn on the left and turn on the right during your 8 hours. This allows your ear, on both sides, to drain properly. Difficult I know to cut down time on your favourite position but It may help. Sorry, if you sleep on your back I have no helpful comment.

I was recently affected with SSHL on left ear >90db profound loss. My right ear is perfectly normal. ENT said the reason is unknown and condition is idiopathic. I already have autoimmune hashimotos. Please tell whether there is any possibility of my right ear being affected too? How to protect my right side hearing?

What if you have mild hearing loss in your left ear but still hear pretty good out of it? My left ear dropped to 35db at 250 frequency and 30db at 500 frequency where my right ear was 20 and 10. All in all my ears were basically equal until the last 2 lowest frequencies and that’s where it dropped some. But I can still pick up sound and bass from songs, talk on the phone fine out of that ear, I mean I can hear background noise good and what direction it’s coming from etc. like I can hear pretty good out of it, only thing I’ve been experiencing is this pressure and fullness sensation and low pitched ringing sensation, or ringing from the pressure I don’t know how to explain it. It’s not high pitched ringing and it does ease up at night it seems like. I’ve also noticed sensitivity to some sounds like scratching the wall I can feel it in my ear, closing lids hard I can feel it, sometimes my voice or other peoples voice I can somewhat feel it in my ear as well, but not all the time though? Like right now I can do all those things and not feel it, but when my ear almost feels somewhat normal I do feel it… it was worse at one point, but has improved atleast gradually. The humming test I have a hard time distinguishing which ear is better, most of the time it feels equal and other times maybe slightly louder in my bad ear? My symptoms at one point were pretty intense with the pressure and sound coming from my ear, that’s really the only time I notice a little difference in my hearing? When it eases up it almost feels normal. But it seems like for a week now my symptoms have gradually improved? Not 100% but better than it was gradually. I’ve been getting treated for middle ear fluid for about a month and half now, and been dealing with these symptoms on and off for 2 months exactly. I haven’t had vertigo or any other serious symptoms, just the pressure and fullness and low pitched ringing. I got sick with a bad head cold and congestion, stopped up, sinus headaches etc and lasted for like 10 days ATLEAST and somewhere between the 7th and 14th of November I woke up and noticed my left ear just felt like, full? Pressure? And that sound (low pitched ringing or whatever) thought maybe I just slept too long on that side and all that mucus and congestion went to my ear, and I just kinda shook it off because I’ve dealt with this similar experience in my right ear years ago and it got better over time so I didn’t really think anything of it, well November 28th was my first visit at this clinic and that’s when I started getting treated for middle ear fluid and slight mild infection idk. Never would have thought of hearing loss, never would have crossed my mind. I don’t do anything to super loud excessive to cause damage, I don’t have any diseases. But maybe it was whatever virus attacked my sinuses I have no idea. Maybe my body is just taking longer to heal and get over this. Just curious if anybody out there has dealt with similar symptoms that I’m dealing with and if they think my situation will get worse or these sensations in my ear will last forever??? It’s been 2 months now and my symptoms haven’t gotten worse, I mean for a while it seemed like it was on a routine, where it would ease up at night and then flare up bad when I wake up and midday. They did air and bone conduction hearing tests and the tympanometry test as well. If anything like I said maybe some slight gradual improvement. But it comes and goes? Ease up and come back I don’t understand, I’m 2 months in like I said. I’ve done a lot of hearing tests online that we’re favorable, I just don’t one about an hour ago that said I didn’t have mild hearing loss.
@AskTheHearingDoctors Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. It sounds like you are dealing with fluctuating hearing loss in the left ear most likely due to the middle ear fluid. I recommend you continue to have it monitored by your physician. Online hearing tests vary and depend greatly on the quality of the headphones you are using. A proper evaluation by an audiologist would be preferred.
@wobekillin9991 Жыл бұрын
@@AskTheHearingDoctors thank you for replying back. Actually the mild low frequency hearing loss I shared in my comment was from an audiologist doctors office. I just do the online tests at home to kinda monitor it and make sure it doesn’t get worse I know they aren’t 100%. But I see my ENT tomorrow, was just curious if I’ve waited too long to get or save my hearing? I’m not saying there wasn’t fluid in there at one point but I know on Jan.13th tympanogram showed nothing conductive but was more less wanting to get an opinion on my mild audiometric hearing loss and my chances of saving my hearing? Been experiencing symptoms for about 2 months now fluctuating, easing up at times and flaring up at times. No vertigo.

I've been experiencing the exact same thing. Mine started November 2022 and apparently is here to stay. My ENT could not find anything wrong with me. It's frustrating but like you shared it eases up. It's worse in the mornings or when i have bad allergies. I have experienced a little vertigo but it quickly goes away. I'm also 41 and maybe it's just the luck of the draw with age?

However, this time around I was stressed from vacation ( i hate flying and have a strong fear of it) and have been around second hand smoking for a year or so now. I went to an ENT who said I had low frequency hearing loss but only in two frequencies (250 and 500 of 25db) after steroids and intratympanic injection my hearing returned to normal but my ear still feels off and I have tinnitus. Do you still have that full feeling in your ear? Any other symptoms? It's been 1 month and a couple of weeks and I still have slight pressure and high pitched tinnitus. Menieres is a bucket of similar symptoms. Your unilateral hearing loss is a symptom along with fullness and episodes of rotational vertigo. The cause can be systemic which gets treated with various medicines and/or changes to diet. The cause can also be a structural misalignment in the upper cervicle area. The cure for this involves working with a Blair upper cervicle trained chiropractor. Won’t restore lost hearing but can get rid of the spins.

The VIII Cranial nerve is the Vestibulocochlear nerve and is responsible for balance and hearing. Often a benign tumor is found on that nerve, and it's called an acoustic neuroma. By completing an MRI, your physicians are evaluating this cranial nerve.

Please know you can live a very normal and healthy life with hearing in only one ear. It is challenging for you now probably because teens hang out in large groups and talk over one another. Your doctor should be able to advise you on what treatment is best based on your hearing evaluation. Not knowing your history or test results makes it hard to say what direction to take.
