As somebody fighting sexual immorality and trying to turn away from such a life style, and turn to Christ. I struggle with guilt and anxiety whenever I fall again into such sin, But because God is graceful and generous, know believer he will not turn from you when you turn to him. This is a truth I am still learning, and I pray that someday (hopefully soon) I can look back and thank God for how far he’s brought me. Prayers are always appreciated. Thank you Pastor John, and praise God for people like you.

If you are in 100% agreement with God about doing his will for the rest of your life, you will become "dead to sin" as the Bible says (1 Peter 2:21-24, Romans 6:1-2, Romans 6:11): that is how you will be set free from sin (John 8:34-36, Romans 6:4-7, Romans 6:14-18). If you are dead to porn and porn is dead to you, then you will be walking in freedom and overcoming it by the grace of God (Titus 2:11-14). That is different from being in a constant battle. You can be once and for all victorious in Jesus. The key is to obey Him. Hebrews 5:9 And having been made perfect, He [Jesus] became the author of eternal salvation to all those who obey Him It is the truth that will set you free (John 8:31-32, 36).

I became a Christian 12 years ago. I still struggle with alcohol, I get up every morning with intentions of quitting. I believe the Lord will help me out of this rut eventually. Prayers are appreciated, I'm not giving up. Wow. Thanks for all the support and prayers. I've read through most of the comments. So I am attending church regularly, and in one of the churches community groups. There were some wondering why I struggle with alcohol. I definitely do have some resentment issues, anger, self hatred for some things I have done even after salvation. So basically now I'm trying to spend more time in prayer, scripture and actually talking with people about my issues. I truly believe with time I will cut this sin out of my life permanently. So yeah... just trying to get to a point where I love jesus more than anything. Again thanks for all the prayers and support. God bless you all.

Christian writers created the resurrection hoax by making up a fake empty tomb story & fake eyewitnesses/testimonials, but didn’t realize the sin-sacrifice-resurrection implies a superstitious God who values blood-sacrifice, which was a common practice back then - e.g. sacrificing a goat for a new home. Superstitious early folks who valued blood sacrifice created the God of the Bible in their own image.

Pastor John really didn't answer this gentleman's question. The believer asked why he is still struggling with past sins now that he is a Christian. Believer, if you read this and any believer, who wants an answer to this question, let me shed some light on the subject with the help of the Holy Spirit. We struggle with sin because it is our nature. The sin nature, this desire to do wrong is still there even though we are believers. Now, if you have accepted Jesus Christ, then you are saved and your sins have been forgiven, however, understand that we still have flesh. And the flesh, is at war with the spirit. That is why we are struggling with sin even though we are believers of Jesus Christ. For the believer who asked this question, my hope is that you are in a good Bible believing church, and you are around other believers who can encourage you in the faith. Also, is that you will learn to yield to the spirit of God and through his help, you will overcome the sin that you are struggling with. Satan will always try and tempt you. That is what he does. You can not overcome sin in your own strength. You need the help of the Holy Spirit. I pray that this helps you and other believers out there.

@UNBEKANNT I have came from that life and I know exactly what your talking about. For three years I struggled with the sexual sin. and every morning I got down on my knees and asked forgiveness. This is the answer I was given by God. When you sleep at night you have no control over your body. Matter of fact your body goes through the work of physical upkeep's. This is where wet dreams come in. Your body needs to keep the equipment working and so it provides the stimulation in order to do just that. Therefore it's not your desire that's causing this to happen. but your act of controlling that desire, is what creates the sexual tension and thereby the release. You body protect's you from physical harm as it's supposed to do and provides the necessary stimulus to cause that release to happen. Now your desire to control your sexual needs is proper, but it comes at a price. Jesus said, that because your heart is not in the act, you have not sinned. It's WHEN your heart is in the act that creates the sin. So if you see a beautiful woman and fantasize about her, then you do wrong. But because we are sexual creatures, desire for sex is natural. Scripture says we are to control those urges when they come upon us so that we do not sin. But Paul states that if we cannot control ourselves, then we should marry. The problem is, we cannot just grab someone and marry them. This would be a sin for you are not taking into concideratio, how the woman feels. No, if marriage is out. then you must learn to control your passions, for to do less is sin. but if desire is great and your body creates the release, no that your clear of sin for your heart was not in it. As I said, you cannot control your body for your body will seek release through wet dreams, but your not responsible for those.

Sin is a process. You can’t just sin spontaneously. Three things must happen in order for sin to become a reality. Temptation... conception...maturation. James 1:13-15 describes the process perfectly. By your words, I would say that you are only at step one. Remember...sin isn’t something you do.. it’s what you believe.

Wow! I’ve been asking this question for the past few months and then this video gets released on my birthday, feel like it’s just for me but we all need this! I had been sober for about 3yrs and then recently slipped up a few times as well. I knew everything was fine because I hate it and I’m not happy about it. I have a lot of victories fighting the temptations but I also have failures too. A few other sins from before my conversion have not come back which is amazing but this one thing drives me nuts but I will never give up fighting! It makes me think of Paul’s thorn in the flesh, maybe this is mine, or when he says he does not want to do what he hates but he still does it. Based on the comments it seems like we all go through this so I just want to encourage you guys to fight sin everyday, wake up ready for battle! I picture myself attacking sin like a scene from 300 or something hahaha! But that’s how it should be, fight sin without ceasing. Love you guys, keep focused and god bless you all my brothers and sisters

Carlie Trogicj thanks!! I’m 37 and very lucky that god let me see another year. That is very true! I put a lot of emphasis on my battles with sin as to why it’s ok but you’re right it is about the cross! My emphasis on the battle to me is just additional proof because it shows that I am truly born again because if I was not, I wouldn’t be worried about it at all. The answer is so simple in that it is because of Jesus and I don’t know why I forget that sometimes haha. I am very early on in my walk with god so hopefully I’ll just continue to grow and focus on that more and have less of these thoughts that distract and confuse me. Thanks for your comment! It helped

Carlie Trogicj hahaha!! No I get that for sure!! A couple of things about romans, I actually just read those over the weekend and this morning I read 7 and 8. Romans was so amazing to me the first time I read it and romans 12:2 was something I kept thinking about a lot early on because I was so conformed to ways of the world and needed to get out of it. It’s mind blowing to me how god changed me and changes all of us. I used to be a stupid gangster growing up, full of anger and ignorance and the change in my heart is where I’m just so blown away by god. I never cared about anything and now I find myself tearing up over anything and feel love towards everyone, it’s insane man haha! My wife jokes with me because she told me that she would pray for god to soften my heart but didn’t expect me to be a cry baby now hahahahaha!!! I’m constantly blown away by god but not surprised because that’s how good he is

Make sure you approach God the way He expects you to with the right mindset. You must submit to God. That is essential: James 4:7-8 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. That's what your attitude needs to be when you are going through the process of *repentance* and committing to be obedient to God for the rest of your life (that's the kind of "change of mind" God wants to see). You must sincerely regret having sinned against God, and come to the point of hearing and agreeing 100% with Jesus' message saying, "I do not condemn you, now go and don't sin anymore" (John 8:11). Your obedience as you choose to follow God's ways is key--that's how you show your faith to God (John 3:36, Luke 6:46, Hebrews 3:17-18). That opens the door to receiving his *forgiveness* for your past sins (2 Peter 1:9), *healing* (Luke 5:31-32), *freedom from sin/addictions* (John 8:34-36), and the gift of *a new life* that you will live for God and no longer for sin and the passing things of the world (Romans 6:4, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Galatians 6:15). That is the salvation you must make sure you have experienced: freedom from sin (John 8:36, Romans 8:1-2) versus bondage to sin (John 8:34, Romans 7:23). Approaching God in genuine repentance will lead to you receiving the Holy Spirit to lead you to "walk by the Spirit" (Acts 2:38, Galatians 5:16)--with a pure heart and self-control, which is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Any habit that controls you reveals idolatry in your heart. You have to choose to be done with that and it will be part of your past. That's one thing that will come out of your commitment to be obedient to God for the rest of your life. Please see 1 Peter 4:1-3 and 1 Thessalonians 1:9. James 1:21-22 21 Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls [that's repentance]. 22 But be doers of the word [that's faith, which implies obedience], and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. Hebrews 5:9 And having been made perfect, He [Jesus] became the author of 👉 *eternal salvation to all those who obey Him [...].* Please stay in the word and obey it (James 1:21-22). The word of God is fuel for your faith. To live as a follower of Jesus you must go out of your way to put the word of God in your heart and keep it there, rejecting all distractions. It's a fight and that's how you need to stand to not fall down. The truth will set you free from all sin (John 8:31-32, 36).

For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin. Romans 7:15‭-‬25 ESV bible.com/bible/59/rom.7.15-25.ESV

Yes it manifests itself as you describe but attempting to control those things is impossible. We need only transfer our fears to godly fear which is the beginning of wisdom. Your list will take its rightful place as we recognize and possess the fears that flesh demands of us. We don’t run or attempt to avoid...anything! you arent alone in that. I would be careful of trying to do the 'fixing' all by yourself. Have you got a Fellowship you can attend? becuase, hopefully, you will find others who have been through this and can help counsel you. I messed around for 20 odd years...wished I hadnt. You are going to stumble and fall, its the getting up and letting the Lord help thats crucial. He paid for it ALL. He said 'It is Finished' on the Cross. What helps me is to stay well away from anything that I know will cause problems. Not so easy if its friends and family...its more about situations that can cause you to fall. Its about finding alternatives, if that makes sense?

@@robraverThanks, I appreciate the concern. I've been getting a lot out of a Sunday school class, but sometimes I feel like the only person in there who's ever really messed up. Church services every week are absolutely non-negotiable for me. I think that along with consistently reading scripture every day has been the most important to helping me come back to life. I had gotten into a place where I was so isolated from everybody that just showing up and saying good morning to everybody I could felt like a huge step. But the work continues. I'm still trying to expand my circle to include people I might be able to share more with, which might take driving over to a big church in another town that has more small groups. The good news is I was able to stop a lot of my bad habits more or less cold turkey once I realized that any real progress was going to require pulling those things completely by the root. It might take some time though for the guilt and anxiety to subside.

While I appreciate Pastor John's answer to this question, I do wish he addressed it in more detail concerning the 'why' this happened to him, because I find myself in the same situation. It isn't simply the question as to why I keep falling to my pre-conversion sins, but why was it that when I was converted, I experienced such an overwhelming sense of joy and freedom in Christ for nearly a full year! But now, I find myself stumbling quite often with those same pre-conversion sins I struggled with before I knew Christ. Granted, the stumbles are far less frequent than they were while I was still in bondage, but I do feel rather helpless and almost abandoned by God. Because although I recognize that I have been sealed forever by the Holy Spirit regarding my salvation, I struggle to understand why the sanctifying work within me has seemed to stop. If anyone reads this and decides to try answering my question with further probing, let me save everyone the time and say; yes. I pray often. I read the Scriptures everyday. I am constantly in the Word and with God. I listen to good and faithful preachers who exposit the Word at least three times a week. I read other theological books as well in order to better grasp what is taught in the Scriptures. And I don't do all of this in order to be a 'super-Christian' as some may say, but because I have no other desire apart from the Lord. Sure, I have other hobbies that I do, but my one true desire is to server the Lord in all that I do. And if I am still maintaining this mindset, then why do I still stumble with pre-conversion sins? And why does the Lord feel so distant today than the day I was born again?
@yestothetruth
@yestothetruth Жыл бұрын
I am sure you have done your own share of thinking about the issues you are facing, but no one can do probing better than you, so my response is to invite you to further probing. My perspective is that there is a lot of use of words or expressions among Christians that may not line up with what is meant in the Bible. For instance, freedom in Christ. That means you were a slave to your sins and you got saved from that to be freed from sin (Romans 6:14-18). Being under grace would mean that sin have no more power over you to keep you bound as a slave to it (Romans 6:14). So, Jesus having come into the world to set the captives free (Luke 4:18) would have been a relatable reality. This is all probing the "square one" of your walk with God. Now, if you see no red flags, and you have found yourself in bondage to sin again, then it must be that you have left "the way of righteousness"-the path that you got saved to begin walking on faithfully to the end (please read 2 Peter 2:20-22), having your eyes on eternal life. Colossians 1:21-23 21 And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22 he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, *in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, 23 👉 IF indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven* [...]. There is no sanctification to speak of without a basis of continuous obedience to God: doing God's will steadfastly or doing/working righteousness: 1 John 3:6-7 6 Whoever abides in Him [Jesus] does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who does righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. If there is no faith to believe that there is such a thing as abiding in Jesus and not sinning (there is massive denial of that), then there will be problems because of the mere rejection of that truth as something Jesus came into the world to make possible for sinners who turn to Him. Hebrews 5:9 And having been made perfect, He [Jesus] became the author of eternal salvation to all those who obey Him Acts 10:34-35 34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said: "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him." Remark that you are not calling your present situation being in bondage, yet sin has power over you which is a contradiction to being under grace (Romans 6:14). But whatever the case is, you must agree with God about it or He cannot intervene in a situation that you are not acknowledging for what it is. My response may not have a follow up. I just want to leave it with you to take what you may from it. I have a sense that you have an assurance about certain things you are doing right, but they don't seem to be helping. Anyway, I have not answered you as a theologian. And I encourage you to examine the "square one" of your walk with God. Was getting born again synonymous to knowing your heart was purified and suddenly you knew you were no longer trapped in any sinful behavior or routine? Can you relate to having _"died to sins"?_ 1 Peter 2:21-24 21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, *leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps,* 2 who “committed no sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth.” 23 Who, when he was cursed, did not curse back. When he suffered, did not threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously; 24 who his own self bore our sins in his body on the tree, *that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness;* by whose wounds you were healed. The probing is necessary. You can also ask, what was being "converted" about for you? Does that line up with what the Bible teaches or is it just that certain theologians you have listened to agree on a sense of it? What transformation did happen? Who were you and who did you become? So, if you have become who you were, what was the path you would have to follow for that to happen? I pray you get answers and the clarity you seek, and most of all the new life Jesus died to give you. Another scripture came to mind as I was listening to this, Matthew 12:43-45. I may have this scripture out of context as I am not very well versed yet but, when we truly accept Jesus I feel we are delivered of many afflictions....I know I was. But the devil now hates us even more. He will try everything to torment us, especially with past sins and especially when he sees a true and beautiful relationship forming with our Lord and Saviour. This is where (as difficult as it is sometimes) to be Christians showing authority to fight against demons who are working hard to get us away from Him. Literally say out loud that we belong to Jesus, we are covered by his blood, now get the (insert word of choice here) out of here!!! Just like Jesus said when he was being tempted by satan....GO AWAY!!!

@@User_Happy35 I did not say we were not striving to deny ourselves. People don't realize that repentance is every day. If you are saying you are perfect now then you are a heretic. We will not be sanctified until we are with the messiah and he whipes away all of our sin. Romans 8:17-30 KJVS And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. [18] For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. [19] For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. [20] For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, [21] Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. [22] For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. [23] And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. [24] For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? [25] But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. [26] Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. [27] And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. [28] And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. [29] For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. [30] Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

@Carlie Trogicj thanks for the answer, I appreciate it! But just cause someone believes you can lose your salvation doesn't mean he thinks he earned it by himself. If you get a present from somebody, let's say homemade clothes. It's your choice to receive it or reject it, and it's your choice to put on your clothes you got (not by your own works, by another one's handcraft) and it's your choice to keep it on or remove it, and throw the gift away. The clothes you received were completely finished and perfect for use before you put it on, but you can still throw them away, that doesn't take away the handcraft of the person who made it for you. If you throw them away, you're not saying "I believe I made those clothes", you're saying "I know he made them, but I don't want the clothes HE fully made anymore". "And if ANY man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall TAKE AWAY his part out of the BOOK OF LIFE, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." Sanctification is progressive, and is part of our Christian walk in this world. We must slay our sin everyday, and if we do sin, we have an Advocate who is Jesus Christ (1 John 2:1), and we must confess those sins to Him (1 John 1:9), because He is faithful and Just to forgive. However the warning here is that we must not be at PEACE with SIN. Confession of sin can either be sincere or fatalistic, and being fatalistic about sin is dangerous and can endanger our walk with the Lord.

Romans 6:6-7 Concordant Literal New Testament 6 knowing this, that our old humanity was crucified together with Him, that the body of Sin may be nullified, for us by no means to be still slaving for Sin, 7 for one who dies has been justified from Sin 2 Corinthians 4:10 KJVS [10] Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. So how does the sin nature in a believer die? 1 Peter 4:1-2,12-13 KJVS [1] Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; [2] That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. [12] Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: [13] But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

"Romans 7" 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank God - through Jesus Christ our Lord!

@Sage of Synergism The English used is one of present tense. He doesn't say, I was doing the evil I didn't want to do, but he says I am practicing the same evil I don't want to do. Why would an unsaved man have a fight in his inner man? Paul was a born-again believer when he wrote this. Infact that was the reason he wrote this. Towards the end of his life he even realises that "He is the Chief of sinners". 👇 "1 Timothy 1" 15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. 16 However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life. Notice that he says "I am" not "I was". It's a continuing tense. Infact he tells Timothy, in verse 16, that his own Christian life is an example of the "longsuffering" character of Christ and his believers. Longsuffering is a character that is shown (by our Savior) towards repeated offences by His children.

@Sage of Synergism The Amplified Version would make it more clear that Paul was a born-again believer in Romans 7. 👇 22 For I joyfully delight in the law of God in my inner self [with my new nature], 23 but I see a different law and rule of action in the members of my body [in its appetites and desires], waging war against the law of my mind and subduing me and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is within my members. 25 Thanks be to God [for my deliverance] through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind serve the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh [my human nature, my worldliness, my sinful capacity-I serve] the law of sin. ✍️ Every true child of God, struggles with sin (just like Paul). It's the pain of this struggle that's the evidence of the Love of God in a born-again believer.

@Sage of Synergism This gives a clear explanation of what is flesh. The unredeemed, Holy Spirit less person. 👇 "Romans 8" 1 Therefore there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict, no punishment] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior]. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For what the Law could not do [that is, overcome sin and remove its penalty, its power] being weakened by the flesh [man’s nature without the Holy Spirit], God did: He sent His own Son in the likeness of sinful man as an offering for sin. And He condemned sin in the flesh [subdued it and overcame it in the person of His own Son], 4 so that the [righteous and just] requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us who do not live our lives in the ways of the flesh [guided by worldliness and our sinful nature], but [live our lives] in the ways of the Spirit [guided by His power]. 5 For those who are living according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh [which gratify the body], but those who are living according to the Spirit, [set their minds on] the things of the Spirit [His will and purpose]. 6 Now the mind of the flesh is death [both now and forever-because it pursues sin]; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace [the spiritual well-being that comes from walking with God-both now and forever]; 7 the mind of the flesh [with its sinful pursuits] is actively hostile to God. It does not submit itself to God’s law, since it cannot, 8 and those who are in the flesh [living a life that caters to sinful appetites and impulses] cannot please God. 9 However, you are not [living] in the flesh [controlled by the sinful nature] but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God lives in you [directing and guiding you]. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him [and is not a child of God]. 10 If Christ lives in you, though your [natural] body is dead because of sin, your spirit is alive because of righteousness [which He provides].
@T.Ravikumar

@Sage of Synergism When your sin satisfies you (or too seem comfortable with the sin in you), you are acting in your flesh. If your sins hurt you, trouble you & push you to go back to your Savior's hope with pain & anguish, thats the Spirit led believer. 👇 "Romans 8" 12 So then, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation, but not to our flesh [our human nature, our worldliness, our sinful capacity], to live according to the [impulses of the] flesh [our nature without the Holy Spirit]- 13 for if you are living according to the [impulses of the] flesh, you are going to die. But if [you are living] by the [power of the Holy] Spirit you are habitually putting to death the sinful deeds of the body, you will [really] live forever. 14 For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading again to fear [of God’s judgment], but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons [the Spirit producing sonship] by which we [joyfully] cry, “Abba! Father!”

You still struggle with sin because we are still in bodies of flesh with human nature. It is IN CHRIST that we are a new creation. He is the first born from among the dead and it is on resurrection ground that we are accepted before God as to our standing. Take the time to read Romans chapters 1 to 8. Remember chapter 5 comes before chapters 6 to 8 in order in your Bible, also in order as to your spiritual experience in understanding that there is a difference between your sins which you commit and sin which is in your nature. Chapter 5 v 11 is the step from one to the other.

@Sage of Synergism Where do you get the idea of 'free will' from? Try reading Romans ch. 5 which is in two portions, the first dealing with our sins up to verse 11, and then it deals with sin which is in our nature. It is dangerous to give advice to someone looking for truth and help, when you haven't got a clue yourself. You are mixing up Kingdom teaching with the gospel of Grace, and they are poles apart. What this pastor is saying will not help you. Here's the truth of it. For a while your eyes were diverted from the drugs you were taking in your old life by your new life in Christ. But lately your faith in Christ was not enough. Do you remember when Jesus was saying that in order to follow me, you must hate your father and mother? He wasn't saying to hate your father and mother for that would go against honoring your father and mother. No, what he was saying is that in order to follow me. you must hate that which you love. Your problem is, that even though you hate the drug scene, you haven't replaced it with something that you can love. So you have an empty house inside of you. Remember, Jesus said when an evil creature has left the place where he dwelt, that creature will roam the world till he finds a new home which has been swept clean, he then will move in and invite more of his kind and make that persons life worse than it was before. This what's happening with you. Your desire for Christ is only the start of your faith. Now you must find something that can help you grow in your faith. The gift of the Spirit is goodness, kindness. truth, justice, mercy, compassion, honesty, grace, virtue, long suffering, joy, peace, and all others like these. Do you know why Jesus forgave Paul for the things he had done? It was because of all the Apostles, Paul was unique. You too are unique for in you is knowledge and you can use that knowledge to help others who are going through the same thing you are. Jesus said that a true Christian should help those in need. These people with drug problems have a need and you can help them. Not only that, but through them, you will find that which you seek, something that gives your life meaning. This will take away this back and forth problem for in a way, you will become these peoples big brother.

+Kenny Taylor..You sound like you have been to a good AA meeting! And it is Good! There is something else. God Warned us of the Sins beneath the sin. These are Pride..Lust..Greed..Anger..and Worry. One or more of these is usually beneath the surface. Jesus Helps us Examine our lives to see the root cause. I see people have trouble with Boredom..as well.

@@kathleenwharton2139 Actually, I have never had a drinking problem, but my friend who did 30 years ago, runs an AA meeting. There, he has 30 or more members showing up. As for your list. yes! those things happen, and when they do, you need to repent from them. But Kathleen, do you know WHY they're such a problem?

Kenny Taylor There is only one sin...fleshly fear! The laundry list of things she mentioned are merely manifestations of manmade fears. The fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom. Until fleshly fear is replaced with godly fear there can be no confidence with god. The enemies only weapon is condemnation through fear. We must master and possess the knowledge of fear both in self and in others. Jesus spent 33 years teaching that. There is no love or forgiveness where fleshly fear exists.

+Kenny Taylor.. I have never had a drinking problem either. When I was young and tried to smoke and drink with my friends..I had a voice in my Mind..that said.."don't Do that!". So I didn't! God Had to Give us a natural selfishness..so we Woud not die as babies. We have to have a certain degree of Survival skills in order to survive and thrive. But then God needs to Help us Temper those Selfish survival skills as we learn to be a cooperative community. When you are a mother..you see how it works. We are just naturally pleasure seeking creatures too. It is just the nature of the beast! As they say.

I understand Better Now and it Feels I have been Saved! I let the Proud go their way and no longer fear all the man-made Stuff they put upon me.

John Piper is not qualified to answer this question. Next time you are tempted with evil "remember you're dead" "Dont let sin reign" Oh gosh, this man must not battle true evil, because you can talk about being dead to sin all day, and watch how it still pursues you. The truth answer is, no man is free of sin, unless God gives deliverance... Why do we fall down into sin? Well, God allows it; for many reasons, primarily to teach us, humble us, and remind us of what we really are, outside of Christ. We are vile and dominated by sin, only by Gods grace do we have a chance to say no to sin, outside of that grace we are HELPLESS.

@@HearGodsWord --- Your reading comprehension skills are awful. Traditional Christianity believes sanctification is a process. But a process is not what Calvinists actually believe. Calvinists believe the regeneration of the mind is prior to belief and irreversible. Being irreversible no process is warranted or necessary. Except in the case of Calvinism needing to come up with another explanation to explain their explanations. Ergo, my next question which you failed to address.

I think your anti-Calvinist anger is blinding you because I clearly referenced the fact that sanctification is an ongoing process for the person who asked the question! That suggests it's you own 'reading comprehension' which is awful ☺
