Yeah, the latest Unreal is the worst thing to happen to storefronts as every crapy game maker is just downloading Unreal 5(I think it is now?) and just charging people money to play it. Play what? Just Unreal 5, a big empty void of Unreal 5 with no game in it, because who needs a game with these graphics!!!? @@billywashere6965

Exactly!! A big empty map is boring. I try to focus on a map that has meaning. Interactable objects, each building give it something good and impactfull that will make you want to explore the map! Not a huge randomly generated map that is EMPTY and dull.

You should have a look at Grand Emprise. It's a solo dev asset flip who made multiple games in less than 2 years and complains when someone leaves a negative review with less than a hour of playtime. But here's the kicker, he himself does the exact same thing to other games that are 10x better than his crap like Sons of the Forest and Forever Skies. Yet his 5 hour game for 20 bucks is apparently more superior because everything that happens to his game is intentional even if it's a bug

As a game dev myself (never released a finished project, but made multiples projects to learn in the past few years) I'm currently working on a multiplayer "GTA like" but in a retro style (just like the early PS2 era) and I made more stuff in 2 months than this guy without using any assets from the store ! I made myself the 3D models, the texturing, the scripting and even the audio using FL Studio. I already have a fully playable multiplayer with 3 buildings (with interiors), multiples roads, a radar, a pause map, players/vehicles blips on the minimap, collision damage for vehicles with parts detaching from the car etc... It's sad seing this type of games on Steam, it's ruining the reputation of others indie devs like me who just wants to create a good game and not a quick cash grab that will be forgotten in a day !

These kinds of games are why I'm not on the same indie craze as other people. I used to be. Big, open worlds, premade assets, procedurally generated content and levels, janky animations, very little story, and roguelike elements plague a lot of these kinds of games. They just all feel mindless to me.
@newsonomamashine Жыл бұрын
The reason why this happens is because making a nice looking enviroment and puting a character walking, running and jumping with unreal engine is ridiculously easy, anyone can do that following some tutorials, and even add gameplay mechanics like shooting, and considering the total lack of quality control on steam, you have hundreds of noobs just putting all these things together in a couple of weeks and then charging for them.
@6581punk Жыл бұрын
That's kinda the argument against engines, it limits creativity and innovation in games.
@Drstrange3000 Жыл бұрын
This is why I wasn't optimistic with what UE5 was saying about how anyone could throw together a game. I felt like we would get more and more games like this with no real experience or vision. These asset flips are embarrassing.

To be fair if a game is bad people just need to give it a poor review and then others need to learn to read before buying. The biggest issue I've seen is content creators buying these bad games and using them as content. Often not refunding or giving a bad review. Which tells people who want a quick buck if they make a shit "game" and slap it on Steam with a decent page some content creators and curious people will buy it.

Maybe we should collaborate on an Inception game where you spawn in a featureless misty haze with your smoking but soon to become unhinged French soul mate and the object of the game is to ‘create a unique, intricately detailed city scape where every detail is conceived and brought into being by the infinite imagination and creativity shared between you and that French hottie before you become detached from reality and she necks herself. ….anyone fond enough of the concept and the film to purchase the game on this premise will be delighted to learn that the code we provide caters to the title screen and ‘choose a player’ screen…. Limited to also of course because who’s selecting the unhinged Euro babe who necks herself in real life and proceeds to haunt every single one of her widowed husband painful remaining days whilst in exile from everyone he loves. Stage 1 - Leo aka Player 1 must write the game code to bring ‘Inception’ as we’ve envisioned it to life. …. Die hard fans are guaranteed to feel their very own ‘kick’ just like Leo did, except mainly in the gut, balls and wallet region. Happy Incepting!!

You deserve one for your dedication to go trough all this crap, remain sane and warn others. A lintje also gets you knighted.
