I’ve always always wondered why people are so against naming places as if you constantly fish that same hole lol. I’ve never had an issue giving people locations or general ideas of where I fish or hunt. There’s enough land and resource to go around and is like others to enjoy it as I do and did shit after all that’s why I served my country so that we can be equally happy doing the many great things with freedom in this country

@@jessesilva4768 no problem man, we love vets up here, so bring all your vet buddies and their families for a trip up here. Definitely check out the 3 big lakes in the Panhandle area and check out the McCall area. There is an awesome alpine lake called Lake Louise, just 30 min drive from McCall, that has trophy cutthroat trout in it, with some people catching them on spinners. And if you have a 4x4 truck you can park less than a mile from it and hike in, instead of doing the 1.4 mile hike from the recommended parking lot trail head. And definitely check out the St Joe River, lots of first service roads to cruise in that area between that river and the Clearwater River. I think the town this guy keeps mentioning that was burning is Dixie, so I think he was fishing around Clearwater River then when he mentions needing to get over just 2 peaks, he is trying to get to the St Joe River. He also has a Clearwater National Forest map by him on his first Idaho series video.

Another great video Drew! It looks like you hit the season just right. Not to take away from your skills, but in my experience these free flowing runoff fed, wild cutthroat streams are all about timing. You get skunked when the river is blown out and turbulent. Cutties will slam a bare hook when the clarity, flow volume, and temperature are just right.
@LooknFishy
@LooknFishy 3 жыл бұрын
Haha, trust me...anyone who's been fishing for any length of time better understand how timing and seasons, have a direct influence on your success. Chase redfish...you better be dialed in on tides and moon phases, run off with hatches, bass...if you're pounding the banks in January you're going to have a rough day unless you're in south FL! There's a reason I head west in the summer and tailwaters in the winter!

It was cool to listen to them. The whole experience is fascinating. While you were working your way into Idaho, my nephew and I fished some of the Wyoming ranges. Different Cutt subspecies in those drainages. I prefer Central and north central Idaho. Honestly, I prefer the smaller streams like you fished in earlier video posts.

Would love to get up in this area and check out the Great Burn as they call it (because of the 1910 fire). I'm studying the Cairn Cartographics new Great Burn map they put out last year that has awesome detailed shaded relief in feet at 1:63,000. Also, their North and South Selway-Bitterroot maps are equally nice. Such a massive roadless, rugged, mountainous area on the Idaho side in the Selway-Bitterroot, Great Burn and River Of No Return wildernesses. I'm not a big fisherman, used to be when I was younger, but lost the patience. I think if I got into fly fishing I would like it again. To me it would be synonymous to bow hunting.

Ok…I am not a commentor but I have really wanting to ask you some questions…first off, amazing content. I live in CO and love the backcountry and outdoors. Secondly, you are obviously an accomplished angler thank you for sharing that with us. So….what is your “preriver” process. It feels as if you throw on a dropper rig, hit the water and catch a fish on the first cast and usually every subsequent cast? Are you flipping over rocks? Using a seine? Trying different depths before the camera rolls? Are you scouting the area the day before? Maybe this is my inexperience talking? I am a total newbie. One been at this for about a year. No intentions of quitting. Would love some tips on how to approach the water better. Thanks…once again…awesome content. Thanks for sharing.
@LooknFishy
@LooknFishy 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment...really helps with the youtube algorithm! So, no...I live outside a cypress swamp in south Arkansas so there are no scouting trips. I just start looking at maps and use my experience to decide where to go. As far as flies...I can usually pick what to start with based on stream type...freestone, tailwater or spring creek. There are some similarities but generally each has it's own bugs. Tailwaters...small flies...midges/baetis. Freestones...stoneflies, mayflies, terrestrial's. Spring creeks....a little of everything with some scuds and sow bugs. Caddis live pretty much everywhere. I rarely flip rocks...unless it's just to see stream health or better match what I have in my box. Unless I'm fishing high pressured areas and in that case it can get very technical. But generally speaking the more remote the less technical it gets. I have videos on my channel that could help. All listed my tips, techniques playlist. A few you'll find are A video on every fly I used on my 2 month road trip... I walk thru how approach on small streams... I walk thru how to effectively nymph a run... I walk thru the indicators I use and why I chose them... I walk thru how to catch trophy fish in catch in release areas...

Hi Drew. Apologies if this info is covered in other videos - but I was wondering how you manage your GoPro while casting vs releasing the fish. I get that while casting, you may have your camera on a chest harness maybe, but then when you're releasing the fish, the camera is catching your profile from the side, and then following the net and fish as you release it, which means it can't be in a fixed position. Do you have the camera on a stick somehow that you attach to a harness? And then then where do you get a third hand to man the camera and move it to follow the action, while your other two hands are messing with the net and fish? And if on a stick, aren't you afraid of dropping it in the current? Again, maybe you've covered this elsewhere, in which case just refer me to that video, please. Nicely done. Thanks.

No worries, never really done a video on it but I wear it attached to my hat...this way it's out of the way and sees what I see. I just take it off to talk into it or get a release. You can see it in this video...kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnOzc5hse5qbnJI...I take a bad fall and crack it. It's basically an old action hat mount but in a different hat. Which reminds me I need to replace it lol!

Over the years i have done more than my share of exploring this state on roads that are more goat trails than actual roads, just to fly fish in remote areas. I tip my hat to you, not familiar with the state and by yourself, and you went all the way up there and I love it!!!...great video and great job, i have become a subscriber keep the vids coming.
