I always thought it was just because there were more nearby blocks to pathfind to upwards since there’s usually blocks under the higher ones, and I know some farms use a large clump of blocks to tempt mobs into a killing chamber so I know they don’t all need to be accessible for it to effect where they choose to go
@dracmeisterАй бұрын
Experiment 4 is faulty. Technically mobs can tell the difference between blocks, it's how it determines travel cost along them also, mobs can have their sight be blocked by solid blocks. It's only creepers that can't see through glass. Also, the spiral staircase you've shown here has too little headroom, zombies and villagers are a bit taller than the physically look. Zombies have a sense of "smell" per se. This is why they can detect the player and villagers through walls. Villagers need to actually see (8 blocks of an unbroken line of sight from their eyes) a Zombie to run away from one. Also the Allay experiment is bad, the top item was closer by the time they flew up from the glass cage. Air has a lot of priority on the mob's movement cost because well, it tries to see if it can path to it and fit their hitbox there. This is the same case with Bees flying out to seek a flower. -- This is video ends in an inference, which can be correct but maybe we're drawing the wrong conclusion from it. Mind you, mobs don't attempt to drop down more than 3 blocks down unless they have to, like being a panicked state or in pursuit of a target. This is because after 3 blocks, the fall damage calculation goes in a positive number. So this might just be the inherent bias of the algorithm of avoiding more than 3-block drops coupled with movement cost calculations. -- Magma Slimes and Slimes in general have the simplest "pathfinding" of them all. They move around randomly if they don't have a target but once they do, they do head to the most straightforward line to the target-they're not very smart, so yes they will try to fruitlessly try to attack a player or Iron Golem even if they physically can't get to it. -- Also, nitpick. Pathfinding is NOT an algorithm. Pathfinding is method used to find a route from point A to point B. An algorithm is used to determine pathfinding.

@dracmeisterАй бұрын
@@rxlentess.2856 they sorta do for villagers at least. They're attracted to villagers within a 35 to 52.5-block radius even when obscured by walls if the player is not seen. If the player is seen within a 35-block radius, they will prioritize attacking the player instead-that said, you can cut line of sight to have them re-target villagers or iron golems.

I'm not sure about mobs chasing another mob up or down, but for general wandering mobs will search an area around them for a solid block to pathfind to and then try to get as close as they can to it. A slope has a higher quantity of blocks on the up side than the down side, meaning they'll tend to pathfind upwards. WhiteStoneJazz has an excellent video that covers this topic.

I remember when mobs would hop like mad all the time. They just love going up! I was trying to keep some zombie pigmen off of my rails the other day. I just sprinkled some block piles on the flat surface and they all would climb up after spawning, haha! Talk about simple mob-proofing!
@petersmythe6462Ай бұрын
What you need to recognize here is that it's actually not a deliberately coded behavior but a result of the way it picks points to wander towards being more likely to fail if the ground is above it than below.

Did you account for the possibility that it might be a directional effect? Like instead of going for the bait further up, maybe they rather go for the most northern (or any other direction) first.

Villagers also have a tendency to sleep in the most recently placed bed. Creepers have dropped on me and mine from the top of caverns quite often. Is there some reason for creepers to have this tendency? Another odd tendency i've observed is kid villagers will often run up stairs and jump off the top (at least if the top is lower than 4 blocks. That i've seen so far) and repeat the process. (To their eventual doom) The other day i watched a villager take a running jump down an entire flight of a ramp. It was a six block long slope. Not sure why they did that. It wasn't for their job or because it was night. They just started to wander about normally after doing that.

Just a short answer there ai tries to find path that is safe so the ai things going down is danger but if they are attacked like villager there ai will run around until they think they are safe that's why sometimes when they get hit they might go down.Sometimes they might go down automatically if they find the path safer.
