@jerometaylor554 have you done a retorque after about 1k miles? It should of done it that soon and that will help prevent it from happening. Either way it's a pisspore design and I 2nd doing what guy above said or tack weld something to help hold them in place.
@justincooper5189
@justincooper5189 Ай бұрын
Well, with the kind of weight you're dealing with, tack welds would be a joke. You'd have to have a strong welder, and tig weld the piece on. Mig welding works too, but tig welding is a nicer appearance and stronger if I remember correctly. Honestly, I'm thinking a triangle would help. Have the piece butted up against where the bag perch is supposed to be, then have it so the triangle is pointing towards the gears. That way, it's distributing the pressure into the housin, and not allowing the welds to have enough pressure on them that they could fail.

I have that happening with the freightliner we have. The suspension shop told me the spring is in its proper location but sometime may need a new spring to fix that leaning air bag. The other airbag for same truck that was leaning was easy to fix with new u-bolts All new u-bolts were installed for all four rear springs. Just that one air bag that’s still leaning.

I like that you explain things while most other mechanics on KZbin just make videos of them doing the repair like it’s entertaining to watch someone work. For very skillful, visually appealing things it’s fine, but for maintenance or repairs it’s a wonder that anyone who isn’t dealing with a similar problem on their own equipment would want to watch it

I notice guys will run with bad torque arm bushings a lot longer than they should on air ride setups and end up with jacked up geometry, broken springs etc too. They put those there for a reason and if the bushing is shot things are moving in directions they shouldn’t be.

Simple repair. how do you fix it permanently? What is the root cause , what is stretching the u bolts, then allowing it to slide ? The pin would prevent ( to a point) the stretched bolts from allowing the spring to move till the pin shears. I know this is a short ya can't dig in too far because time limmits . Still a good PSA.

I have been driving a freightliner for the last year. Put only 90k miles on it and it looks like it's on its 2nd motor overhaul. Both bottom mirror arm pieces flew off. Jake/gear shift lever was replaced twice, new gauge cluster because the original shorted, new truck/trailer push valves. All 4 rear axle hubs were resealed due to originals failing before 5k miles. Truck just needs to be melted down and poured into the basement with the Elephants Foot

Thank you for pointing that out! I've been in a 2019 Freightliner cascadia for the past year-and-a-half, and it's pathetically funny how every single Freightliner I've been to says that is normal, it's designed like that, and it doesn't interfere with anything... You know, even though the truck can't hold an alignment in the rear end, can't stop eating up tires, can't stop blowing out bushings. Freightliner can't build a good setup anymore. The front end is even worse.

If there were a pin in the bottom, the u-bolts would still get loose but it wouldn't be as obvious. Freightliner has been using that suspension for 30 years or more. You'll find the the same suspension on a 1994 FLD and a 2024 Cascadia. I bet even the part numbers are the same.
