Here’s another suggestion.... turn off all the water, open up all the faucets in the house, and let it drain down. Turn the water back on and shut off all the faucets. See if that helps stop the hammering sounds.

I’ve got a centrifugal booster pump and every time it reaches pressure and shuts off there’s a loud bang. Do I need a different kind of check valve?

Karl, I would suggest a spring check. It sounds like you have a swing check which can be noisy in this situation.

mike Auerbach, do you have any of the old fashion two handle tub or lav faucet valves? It could be a loose washer in one of those. You can check that by opening them very slowly and see if they chatter. Turn off your main water and open up all the valves, even the outside faucets. After they have all drained to nothing, turn them all off and turn the water back on. Bleed all the air out of the faucets. If on city water and have a pressure regulator, check the incoming water pressure at the hose connection at the bottom of the water heater. After all that, if you still have chatter wh3n you run the dishwasher, then I would call the Maytag repair man. If dishwasher is over ten years old and just a standard dishwasher, buy a new one before calling a repair man. P. S. It could be an angle stop that has a loose washer. What you could do is turn the angle stops off real tight and then turn them b@ck on. That will seat the washer. If you have high pressure on the house side of the regulator, you need to replace the regulator or try to turn the pressure down on the regulator. Turn the nut out on the top of the regulator. I hope this helps.
