I once told my mother oh, I don't know why I love this song so much. She laughed a little bit, then told me it was my great-grandmother's favorite song. She would listen to it on an old 78 record player, while rocking you in a rocking chair. When the song was over she would lift up the needle and set it back to the beginning, playing the song over and over while holding you in her arms and rocking the rocking chair. When I was very young I used to roll back and forth in my bed, listening to music :) it's amazing how what we have heard and seen affects us from childhood to adulthood. Thank you for this series

The beauty of this piece is that there are so many ways to play it beautifully, for eg, well-known pianists have played it from under 4 min to over 6 minutes. I can never get tired of listening to it.The changes in the melody are significant but not abrupt, there is a kind of tension in the piece that is not released until the end. I like especially the way the ending is played here, it is overall an excellent interpretation and presentation. It enhances my enjoyment when I listen to it again. Thanks!

My mother was a professional concert pianist (solo performances in Orchestra Hall in Chicago and such) and used Claire de Lune as an encore. So, she always made sure she was tuned up on it. Therefore, I frequently heard her rehearsing it. Where it is described here as "harmonic colors that go from light to dark", as a kid I told my mother it sounded like "liquid music." I'm not sure exactly what I meant (although I still feel that way today), but she seemed to understand. And audiences always seemed to want more so she had a second encore piece as Debussy's "Golliwog's Cakewalk". Being considerably lighter and somewhat humorous it signaled she was going to end her performance with that.

I know this video has been out for a while now (so I don't know if you'll see this) but I adore your interpretation of this piece. My only critique would be this: I think there are certain parts of the piece where you could slow down (ex. the descent of the scale at 8:20). I also know that this piece is supposed to have flow, but there are in my opinion places where you could let the sound reverberate for a fraction of a second before moving on. This is mostly at transitions like at 8:49 between the two sections (which is probably why I like to play it a tad slower in general). Again I am a huge fan of your content, keep up the good work - A subscriber

This piece is one of my favourites ever. I appreciated so much your accurate explanation. Even when my idea of musical theory is very rustic, I love knowing about what’s beyond any piece we just listen to. Of course, none explanation could make us change our tastes; however, it could be certainly something very useful to discover things we had not noticed while we listened to the piece before. And that does make a change: we start to know how many appreciable things make something possible. Afterwards we start finding that knowledge in other pieces. And the ball keeps rolling, each time in a richer way. Thank you so much!! I enjoyed your class, and your following play. Congrats!
