Fun fact if you use the resurrect command on the bodies , you start to hear normal super mutant voice lines while they just stay stationary. If you kill them tho it crashes your game loool

On the FNV dlc mod of New California, they are turned into weaker versions of Super mutants, simply being called Supermutant rejects, Some can even be seen wearing combat armor. Honestly despite being weaker variants, seeing a bunch of these instantly charge at you at melee only stopping when you killed them, while looking like they are grieving in pain, was terrifying, didn't help from the fact that they picked up the weapons of fallen Supermutant soldiers for their own

Institute has to deal with radiation and its degradation of DNA at the start of each experiment (only pure sample they acquired was shawn, and that was for synths alone). Bet if they had access to some pure stock people, they would have created a good few intelligent supermutants (virgil aside, as he only used am ultra specific, almost tailored strain for himself to my recollection).

The Institute was experimenting with the FEV, trying to find a way to control it, and they were partially successful. Virgil developed a strain that enhanced his physical power while leaving his mind intact, and also developed a counteragent for that one specific strain. If he'd kept his wits about him a litle longer they very well may have developed a broad-spectrum cure.

Actually yes. If I remember correctly, people who hadn't been exposed to radiation prior to being turned into a super mutant retained their cognitive abilities. This is why there are a few intelligent super mutants among hordes of brutes.

Depends on the generation and to an extent whether the master had a hand in their creation. The very first generation of super mutants are much like the ones we are used to seeing: brutish and unintelligent. Later generation super mutants like Marcus or the lieutenant however, are as smart if not smarter than average humans. Then we loop back to the most recent generations being dumb idiots again.

I thought it was confirmed that secondary sexual characteristics disappeared entirely through the mutation process. Which is why they all appear male even if they were female. But it might just be sterility.

My theory is that they wear straps on their upper lip to hold their jaw up and hold that jaw in place so they can eat without the jaw collapsing down.
