Prices are pathetic for hobby boxes, it’s mega tough to break even. And rookies are crazy too 🤷♂️
@frederickbradley8255 Жыл бұрын
The reason is fairly simple. Breakers and resellers clean out the stores and leave nothing with any Roi on the shelves. Then sell them online at a markup to which the card companies think they are selling alot so they jack up the prices. So a blaster that should sell for $20 now is $30 to $40. Then the markup from Reseller makes it $50 to $70. The common collector knows there's very little value at that price point. So why invest in something if there is a very slim chance you'll even break even? Greed is choking the life out of collecting. People are struggling as is so paying that much for a hobby is just not a option for most ppl now. Mega boxes, packs, etc...same thing.

Cards only surged due to crazy pandemic conditions that's it. Very predictable many of us told people in 2020/21 SELL when stuff is high these cards will be sold years from now for probably 10% or less of pamdemic highs. 1% of high end stuff will go up from here. Once the pandemic ended , many people logged off the computer and took their cash on vacation back to normal life and normal expenses. A lot of people weren't going to sit at home all day bidding on cards its that simple. They were bound to plummet very predictable. Crappy economy just speeds up the inevitable decline which is good for collectors honestly. Anyone who brings politics into this is really dumb you're in the wrong hobby. @@MoreBuffMoreMuff Old guys like me are just lucky from a money standpoint cause I collected what I loved and they exploded in value cause they're pre-1973. I bought my first pack in 1969 so I'm older. You are doing what I did and having fun and collecting what you like. I did the same thing with Mays, Aaron, Mantle and Clemente and with football Butkus, Page, Tarkenton, Bradshaw, Blount, Staubach, Unitas, Bubba Smith and others. My favorite football player ever was Lawrence Taylor and I liked the tough hitters on the Raiders and of course Dick Butkus. So I'm in the same mold but a generation or 2 older. From a money standpoint; the 1960's HOF cards are limited compared to 80's and onward, so I was just suggesting for an investment to maybe buy a few older ones. With hockey I always thought Dave Schultz was the toughest ever and Dennis Potvin was a close second. You could watch them on KZbin. I don't think anyone in the NHL compares to Schultz but I could be wrong. With NFL, watch some film clips of Dick Butkus and he might grow on you. Of course Lawrence Taylor also, but you'd like the way Butkus hits!

IMO, the primary reason why many cards continue to decrease in value is because we are still in a correction period after the unsustainable price increases we saw during the height of COVID as well as the gov’t no longer sending as many checks to people as it did during 2020-2021. The dust has not fully settled. Also, more people now are aware of pop counts than they were back a year/two years ago. Back then, FOMO was triggering a lot of transactions. Now people spend more time doing their due diligence before pulling the trigger. As a result, sellers are forced to adjust their asking price if they are truly interested in selling a particular card, even if it requires selling it at a substantial loss. The dust will eventually settle, the economy will rebound, and card prices will rise again because I don’t see demand dwindling down. Demand is not at the fever pitch it was a year ago, but that might be a healthy thing for the long run. Also, of course modern base cards will continue to face price pressure due to high print counts and an abundance of choices. I also believe there will be a correction on vintage cards that have a high pop count. Many of the 1950’s and 1960’s cards of hall of farmers in lower grades are not as rare as many thought at the time they were purchasing such cards during the height of COVID and lockdowns. However, rare cards of active players who have already cemented themselves as guaranteed future hall of fame guys (ex.: Curry, Durant, Lebron, Trout, Ovechkin, Messi, Kershaw, etc.) will once again rise. They have to because that is where demand will continue to exist. IMO, the price drop in some Messi and Lebron rookies signals a great buy for long run. Trying to flip for quick profit is another story all together because it requires a lot more factors to consider, making the endeavor a risky one. However, if you have the threshold to hold on to your cards for several years, then I don’t see how you can go wrong with just buying rookie/rare cards of guaranteed future HOF’ers in high grade. There is only a finite number of those cards (especially pre-2017). So long as demand and awareness continues to rise gradually, where will be the interest be? I can’t imagine that it won’t primarily be in the arena that I am most optimistic about: rookie and rare cards of active players who are guaranteed to be 1st ballot HOF’ers. The great thing about this simple approach is that as we continue to move forward, the number of professional athletes who fall into this category will continue to increase. Six years ago, Giannis wasn’t in this category. Now he is. Two more seasons of Mahomes performing like he has been thus far, and he will be in that category as well. Same with Jokic and Connor McDavid. Simple enough for me. They need approx 7-8 seasons of putting up HOF numbers and they are likely to be a shoe-in. If they happen to win a championship or two along the way, cherry on top of the cake. Aaron Judge is getting close to getting into the club!

there really isn't any reason right now. Their auctions used to be on eBay. They got kicked off of that platform so their audience is suffering a bit. After fees and shit there isn't a reason right now to use their service.

Ja, Zion and Trae are all GREATLY overrated. You're not wrong there. However you are VERY VERY wrong about Luka. Luka is more likely to have a better career than Melo than not. Luka is the real deal.

Oh and people selling NFT’s don’t even know we are up to NFT 3.0. So their NFT’s are like buying a NES instead of a PS5. And wrestling is up because AEW has brought in a ton of new interest to wrestling. And so yeah, that’s an easy answer. Now I am going to try to outbid another company for PWCC by putting down $7.30 after someone went over my $6.50. I figure it will end around $12-13ish, or the price of 4 Will Griers.
