Chris Sewell is by far the best content creator in the hobby. Definitely would not consider him an influencer, but an educator. His videos on how to approach grading worthiness are great. I also love his grading reveals with his predictions videos are awesome. He’s also responsive to communication. I’ve emailed twice, and received responses both times, on resulting in a regular rollers feature. Chris is S tier.

Great video. My insights experiences: - SCR definitely entertaining! - CC2 great guy; been to his shop and spoken with him at numerous shows. My concern with Ryan is that Fanatics, Gary V and the like are going to try and manipulate and use him and he may fall prey to that. - Dustin (SCD): he definitely makes videos just for the sake of daily content. No new news and he never takes a stand on anything. A very nice guy in person but basically like plain yogurt - there’s nothing there to make you want to consume it. Jabs - enjoyed the one vintage sale I participated in - BBCCID - Chris is a great guy and I’d say he’s a positive educator as opposed to influencer SCI - Geoff and his team are very nice in person and seem genuine. I think he got in over his head in the best of times/worst of times in the sports card market. Some of my faves are: - Flipping Steve - NEO - Cards & Comics - MidLife Collector

Great topic and conversation, here’s my take:, Advertising/ marketing executives are paid handsomely by manufacturers to figure out the best ways ways promote their product. Therefore, it’s a pretty safe bet that if a KZbinr is getting paid to do Ads as a sponsor or spokesperson on their channel- they’ve been determined to be an influencer.

Good call, Rob. I can now say from personal experience that sponsors call people they sponsor “influencers” in contracts. 😬

The Past is Alive (the other Jabs bro you referenced here) is easily one of my favorite yt card channels. It's so funny to me that he's the brother of "Jabs Family", but obviously he's his own person. His card content and hobby perspective and frankly hilarious personality that he openly shares with his audience is incredibly fun and relatable to me. Ultimately I connect to card content that is educational/newsworthy in the hobby, relatable to a section of the hobby I am interested in, and/or exudes authentic (to me) passion and energy for whatever topic from the creator.
@Mikeygee99 Жыл бұрын
I totally agree wit The Past Is Alive being a good channel. Jon’s channel is fun oriented. He’s a generous guy and when he does breaks, it’s old, inexpensive wax.

NEO Cards and Comics comes out with a video then an hour later Dustin has one talking about the same thing almost the same way. It does feel like he makes content just to make content and copies. Now granted something big happens in the hobby everyone is covering it but he just seems like he just steals from his buddy. Huge fan of Neo, not so much sports card dad or whatever.

When people say "like, hit the notification bell and subscribe," are those who are only in it for money. Geoff Wilson truly did ruin the hobby with BS and now is back tracking every ounce of advice he crapped out of his mouth. Keith of the Vintage Card Curator is the best hands down and It's not even close. Every video he makes is extremely well done, educational and only puts them out seldomly. Can you get Keith on the show? I think he would be a great guest.

I really enjoyed this episode, guys. I think my gut on different guys is similar to what you all think. It’s tough, because nobody wants to say anything “bad” about anyone else, but we also want to encourage consumers to gravitate towards those that will benefit them most. I could see from how you both talked about each, that you were fighting that issue as well. Appreciate you both and your sincerity for the hobby and being authentic.

I never really thought of Chris Sewall (Baseball Card Collector Investor Dealer) as an influencer. I would bet he wouldn't consider himself that either. I think of him as a storyteller and a professor. While he has informed, entertained and I guess you could say influence how and what I think of the sports card hobby, I still wouldn't categorize him as an influence...if that makes any sense

It seems like anyone who has a public channel is going to be an influencer to some degree. Even if it’s to a very small audience. As viewers, we gravitate towards the ones we like most, whether it’s for entertainment purposes only or for helping us in our own collective pursuits. I think the only really “bad” influencers are the ones who intentionally scam or take advantage of others. It’s great that we have so many options on KZbin. It’s always smart to do your own research as well before making any kind of a purchase. Watch the ones you like and are making your own experience more enjoyable and turn off the others

Enjoyed the discussion. In my opinion there’s a place in the hobby for everyone you named. I don’t look at any of these influencers as good or bad. I enjoy watching videos from some of them and not so much from others, but that’s ok. Labeling them as good or bad suggests that there are right ways and wrong ways to participate in the hobby. I’d prefer that the hobby embrace a wide variety of collecting, investing, and dealing, in no particular order.

I would love to hear your thoughts on Rudy over at AlphaInvestments. He doesn't do sports cards, but is still along the same kind of line. I don't mind Jabs, i kind of use his videos more as a tool, see what, if anything, is worth ripping. It's basically a window shopping channel. And yeah, when the pandemic hit, his channel was one of the first ones i really got into and watched, and from there i've gone on to find a lot of good/better channels. Geoff is in for the clicks/views 100%. He doesn't care about what he does (good or bad) for the hobby. Not really worth my time. SCR is entertaining, it's the Jerry Springer of the card world. lol. RIP Jerry.

Appreciate the video and insight. It is interesting... People have messaged you and they're inspired and..... One might say influenced? Inspired could be argued as simply a more aggressive form of influence. Why is that bad? It is near impossible to make ANY statement in a public forum with any amount of viewers to not influence by definition. To make a staement, have an audience take it in, digest it, form their own opinions or thought, is influencing direction of thought. Someone may ultimately agree or disagree or be neutral but there was an impact to the thought process someone had. That influences. What changes is each individuals conclusion based on the information given. "I hate breaks! Buy singles" That is going to have someone question why they break. Maybe they don't care and keep doing it, maybe they realize that it's -EV and terrible, maybe they say meh... That's his opinion. Regardless that is a thought that has the potential to change behaviour. The definition of influencing. Or maybe it inspires them to to not break. Ultimately, I don't think it matters. Just have fun... Do what you want, give opinions if you want, talk about whatever you want and share knowledge or experiences. But it all influences by definition. Thanks for the content.

People hate on geoff for the sake of it, its kind of old at this point when he's so genuine. Feels like an extension of the wider envy driven stuff in society. Although I think your takes on him are fair Dustin was amazing and then just fell off a cliff and become a better looking version of scr. Used to watch every video, but it all got too negative for me. You missed packman..... number 1 influencer in the game. His product reviews can make or break things. Seems like a genuine guy, not opposed to being critical Surprised you didnt mention one of the most polarizing ones too in grand curator. Personally i enjoy his stuff because its different and he seems to legitimately enjoy things. So long as you account for him seemingly loaded from something previously and burning money in cards, its just good fun. Dan the card man seems to be gaining traction too, he seems balanced and well researched although it is drifting towards the overly cynical side. Also missed the sports card nonsense guys. Still not even sure how I feel about their stuff Favorite kinds of videos are your chasing cardboard series!!! you guys are just super genuine and positive and seeing peoples collections be shared is underrated. Surprised how few videos there are on people sharing their collection or storage stuff though.

Geoff wilson, sports card COLLECTOR is one of the biggest hypocrites in this hobby. This hobby would be in such a better place if he were to just go away. As far as Dustin SCD goes, I finally unfollowed him and It’s the first and only time I’ve done that with anybody. It seems like he got into financial trouble and is now in all this to make up for it by making videos just to make them with no creativity or original thought. On top of endless reaction videos, he crams eeeevery possible sponsor/ad that will give him money down everybody’s throats. It’s to painful anymore.

I hate the term “influencer,” as if people are sheep who need to be influenced. Maybe it’s the grumpy old man in me, but when someone tries to influence me to do something, I high-tail it in the opposite direction. I also keep scrolling when there’s a thumb nail or title that appears click-baitish. I’m in the newspaper business and know some of the tricks they try to have us use to get clicks. Despise that. I like guys who educate us about cards. My favorites are the deep dives into sets and the “favorite/least favorite sets of (fill in decade).”

The only disagreement on your lists was grouping the Jab brothers together Erik (Jabs Family) IMO is a waste of video other than people seeing high end cards they can't afford themselves (ultra modern) . Jon's (The Past is Alive) I feel is a down to earth good buy he rarely does paid breaks when he does it's junk wax with a buy in close to purchase price he bought the box for most of it is his own ripping to find junk was errors, rookies or junk wax subscription boxes.. SCI investor is negative for the hobby by using his kid to influence other kids and introduce them to gambling with box wars and coin flips for trades. It is disgusting how he uses his sons Card Kids channel. That channel should be banned IMO.

Interesting… I’m not familiar with his son’s channel.

@@JunkWaxHero never watch it unless you are into a spoiled kid being given $1000 to spend at a card show and trying to rip off people. Geoff also uses it to get them used to using market movers. It is gross.

SCR sucks they will bash anybody that disagrees with them and make hit pieces on other you tubers. They blew up by calling Sasha a terrorist. Chasing cards is the best

Sports card radio are trash. Very toxic and we only need positivity and uplifting. Helping to make the hobby better not trying to poke fun and tear down others.

Zero reasons given why Jabs is bad for the hobby. I've never bought into his breaks because I don't do breaks, but I watch his videos to get an idea of what's in new products, and he's never anything but gracious and family first in his videos. And he doesn't blow smoke about his pulls. If someone buys into a break and gets shit cards, he says they're shit cards. Would love to hear an actual reason why he's bad.

You need to watch some of his older stuff. He left his wife over cards.

I don't agree with some of his takes but they are interesting and he does a good job with the roundtables.

@BobBoozle I did like his collector roundtable with Matt and Matthew, as well as many of his other seasoned guests.
