I think most of the fear/unease comes down to how jarring/unexpected these logos were. Credits would have a melody, easing the transition between the show ending and the commercials after, only for them to be abruptly interrupted with some random ass, often surreal logo.
@aleksi2627Ай бұрын
I've always found these things a bit scary - especially as a kid. I'll try to explain why 1. They come in silence and leave in silence. There is often like 2 seconds of pure silence or static before these idents. These moments somehow build tension, like silence before a jumpscare does. 2. They are often strange. Weird sounds and weird imagery. As a kid, I don't understand what the hell I'm looking at, or - perhaps more importantly - why. What's up with the style change? I feel like in that short moment I see a glimpse of something that doesn't belong in there. Is this show really what it seems to be, or is there something uncanny lurking behind the scenes? It doesn't help that none of the "tv-people" (children's show hosts) address or explain these. They keep going like I wasn't just shown some of the strangest video clips I have ever seen. 3. They are speaking to ME. As a kid, I don't think I really comprehended what a "fourth wall break" is. In the ident, eyes look at ME, through the TV-screen. Text is presented to ME in an attention grabbing way.

Here’s my theory on why these things scare people. 1: vast empty spaces. This one is based off my own childhood fear of the veggie tales intro, but I think not seeing a drawn background or something close to it freaks people (especially kids) out, ESPECIALLY if there’s people or objects inside of it. It’s like an emptiness most kids probably haven’t seen yet, like the SpongeBob episode where squidward is in that void with the alone words or whatever 2: lots of sounds at once or little sound at all. You know how horror movies use music to scare and make tension for the viewer? It almost feels like these bumpers accidentally added a bit of that element with the either very quiet / eerie background music like the aka cartoon bumper or lots of clashing sounds that take a second to process like the one bumper with all the cut outs and eyes and sounds and colors (forgot what it’s called). 3: the dark. A lot of people talk about being scared of these bumpers, but I’ve sort of realized most of them mention watching the cartoons while going to bed. With the empty-ish bumpers with weird sound design being the dark would amp that anxious and almost uncanny or lonely feeling some of these have by A LOT. 4: tension. I think that that small moment of one episode ending and waiting for another to start most likely adds a little tension to your mind. It’s like “when is the next episode going to be on??” Or “I wonder what comes next??”. These are just assumptions, but I really love film and tv and design shit so I just wanted to share my theories :)

This is quality! Nice to see all my childhood terrors returning to say hello. Tangentially related things I'm listing down here so I don't magically forget them: 1. Fearful Harmonies from the PSX, since that's an absolutely terrifying godsend of a method for music imo. 2. The OG Xbox dashboard audio, since it contains edited tracks of NASA conversations. 3. The "Hi, I'm Paul!" money.

There's something imposing about them, jarring, like it's not meant to be there, like it's an intruder, it wants your attention, but it comes completely unwarranted, which makes sense since they want you to remember the name of the people responsible for making the thing you're watching, but something about them is really offputting. I also think that, as kids, we expect things to follow the same steps everytime, but when something breaks the rules we don't really know how to react. You can see the same phenomenon with other things, like with commercials, psa's or glitches in video games, like when you're playing a game and suddenly everything gets garbled or just stops, it's scary, specially if you're playing old games like on the nes and a random sound just hangs there, haunting you. The sudden change in atmosphere seems to make us uncomfortable when we're kids. I had may things like this that scared me as a kid, and one that's still a bit uncomfortable for me is the lion king video game for the snes, that game gave me several nightmares. The death screens being so sudden that it made me so scared to the point that i would be afraid of dying, specially to avoid the continue screen, the music of which still feels uncomfortable, weird pixelated graphics that my mind would seemingly interpret the worst way possible, and the goddamn mini game where timon looks like he's being hunt down, and you're supposed to catch the bugs spread throughout the level, and as soon as you touch the spider, which you're not supposed to, it makes a screeching noise, cuts to black, and the mini game's over. It felt like timon had actually died lmao It's funny because otherwise it's just a happy little disney game, you wouldn't expect it to leave a kid terrified to play it lol Anyways sorry for rambling. Cool video though, you got the vibe pretty well.

I always wondered when and how this obsession with getting scared with endtags started xD For me, In my country it was kind of a miracle seeing them on TV, as local stations always (And I must say, ALWAYS) chopped off the end credits in order to put more commercials or the next show immediately... except in cable TV, seeing them felt like "You reached this point cause this is premium stuff, not your ad-cramped local channel"

I always thought the Klasky smile and the Paul monkey were uncanny as hell, but I was SUPER young when I saw them the first time. They're just...off. My little child mind couldn't process what I was looking at, really. Maybe if it was on something I saw when I was a bit older it would have been less jarring. Paul's face used to scare me with that extra eye, and with how fast and sudden he turns around. As for the Klasky smile, I could barely understand what exactly it was. I understood it was supposed to be a face, but it was still super offputting. It didn't bother me as much as Paul though, because it didn't surprise me as much. It doesn't like...turn around and jumpscare you with an incorrect face or anything like that. I had completely forgotten about these, actually. Neat Edit: Thinking back on these, I really think it was how quickly everything happened. How it was gone just as suddenly as it scared you. What you ended up with was really cool though.

Nice video about a sorts niche topic! For me, the SpongeBob end Credits left a genuine off-putting feeling when I first saw them. Since at the time my only experience of the show was during syndication on TV, where there's always something else in the next time slot. For me it was probably just the fact that alot of the time I was doing things late at night. Back when being awake late is treated as a bad thing that you have to sneak around doing. Watching the TV at a low volume and slowly eating chips to keep the bag from crinkling. Being left, basically alone with you and the glow of the TV to keep you company. having to just...wait through the end credits of a late times lot or whatever studio Logo is showing is kinda spooky when you're young since you aren't actively engaged in anything at that moment and you probably couldn't care less about the logos on screen when it isn't a TV show you're watching. So the alternative is...literally nothing He'll even now I tend to play youtube videos in the background to not feel too 'alone' in an empry house or have some noise playing when I sleep. Something something 'silence is deafening or I just have Tinitus'
@masterseal0418Ай бұрын
The Spongebob end credits sequence has been analyzed by YourEverydayTheorist, and the real reason why the atmosphere of such is unsettling to us as kids, was related to dissonance. Spongebob represents childhood innocence, and after an episode ends, and the closing credits roll, the youthful energy comes to a complete stop. We then question ourselves what happened, and all we're left is a ditty playing throughout what is called a liminal space. Pure emptiness in its finest shape.

I'm happy to see throught the years more and more people talk about how they were scared of Paul the Chimpanzee. I actually enjoyed the Klasky Csupo, AKA Cartoon (specially the music) and Stretch films logos a lot, but DNA was so distressing I'd have to turn off the tv when the credits began rolling and pray it had already happened when I turned it back on or take the time to know when Jimmy Neutron would come on Nickelodeon as to not accidentally switch the channel when it came, I'd cry or be unable to sleep if I saw it. Like, it was a HUGE thing for me. I had a similar thing going on for furreal friends (and the Tiger Electronics logo solely by association) which is a long but curious story. It's funny how something that small could affect us as children. I do wish you sampled the actual DNA logo and not the O Enterntainment though :(

Nowadays, I find Splaaat, Tex, and Paul to be quite cute really(the latter was even voiced by Greg Cipes aka Beast Boy on Klasky-Csupo's official KZbin channel). If you're asking, the Jimmy Neutron episode 'Tick Tick Boom' from Season 3 is the last we'll ever see Paul. Because you know, The Ant Bully bombed at the box office, and lead to DNA Productions' closure. Insert concerned Tom Hanks here:

There were some genuinely scary ones to me as a kid. But I never actually saw one at the end of a kid's show or any kind of cartoon really that scared me. The ones that always scared me as a kid were all from the endings of shows that weren't really meant for just kids. Some of them were probably "family friendly" shows for sure, but I can't think of any particularly scary ones that ever came from a show made exclusively for kids.

When mentioning nightmare fuel in vanity plates, BND(VID) has to be the most creepy in my opinion(even it's countdown variant). Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to make that ident possible?! The atmosphere, 5 note sting, and mask are traumatizing! Sure, the vanity plate has been toned down heavily to look cute, but it still looks unsettling. On the other hand, PFFR's vanity plate is quite gross, and the 1980s-early 90s BBC logo is melancholic(imagine you turn on your Wallace and Gromit VHS, and you were greeted with this). As an autist, I've been dragged down the rabbithole regarding one of the most bizarre wikis imaginable(aside from Pooh's Adventures), the 'Scary Logos Wiki', which has decayed into a weird-ass amalgamation of fake vanity plates with shock value. MagicMush discussed the Scary Logos Wiki, alongside the Pooh's Adventures, Supernanny Fanon, and Original Scary Godmother wikis in Part 1. There's now a follow-up, which has the Smurf Fanon Wiki discussed and a brief revisit of the Supernanny Fanon wiki. I apologize for you ending up in this bizarre niche full of manchildren, but when mentioning DeviantArt, the platform is apparently dead. Rarely would you find fanart from talented creators, rather fetishes, more fetishes, stolen art, "memes" from immature users, groomers, fucking children, and the most low-effort content possible. Those reasons play part to why I focus heavy on Twitter/X's artists. Good video tho. Subscribed.

THE VIEWER! BRADLEY SMITH WHO LIVES AT 2753 FUCKSTONE SHITCREAK STREET ARIZONA, I AM GOING TO KILL YOU", Anyway great video, real kino.
