Mắm tôm có 2 cách chế biến tùy vào độ nhập môn của người ăn. Loại mạnh có màu tím nguyên thủy, từ trong chai cho ra chén và hòa thêm đường chanh ớt và ăn. Nói thực loại này... ahihi rất khó ăn và nuốt. Loại này dành cho người ăn lâu và ghiền, một thử thách cho cả người việt như sầu riêng Loại nhập môn có màu nâu đã được làm chín 1 phần bởi dầu nóng sau khi phi hành tỏi. Khi ăn, người dùng cho thêm đường chanh ớt. Loại này bớt mùi hơn, ăn đầm hơn và thơm thêm mùi hành tỏi phi dễ ăn. Nếu thêm ít dứa (thơm) ngọt thì sẽ ngon hơn. Chỗ nào mắm tôm mà màu tím là yêu cầu chủ quán chế biến chín thành màu nâu chứ ăn loại màu tím như kiểu Dustin ăn ấy.

12:10 Nam lun i am not from Vietnam, so when I see dustin eat all these things, i am so surprised. I grew up in the same area as dustin, so I know some of the things you're eating, but most of these things i'm too scared to try. Dustin is very brave to be so open to trying all this different kinds of food.

I have to give Dustin credit for at least trying mắm tôm. It took me a number of years to acquire the taste and now I prefer mắm tôm over mắm ruốc. Much more flavor in my opinion. Dustin and Năm lùn make the perfect couple for this very informative video on Vietnamese foods. Keep up the excellent job my friends.

As a Viet, I have only ever tried this dish twice. The main factor that determined my liking for it was definitely the mắm tôm. The first place I had it at didn't really season it well but the second made it sooooo good.

I'm super surprised you don't like that dish since so many people like Max McFarlin, Sonny from the Best Ever Food Review Show, Quang Tran (or maybe it's really his wife that loves it more than him), etc., love it. Especially as Nam Lun mentioned you'll eat all kinds of crazy stuff but don't like mam tom (BTW, say "thome" vs "thurm"). Maybe if you combined the herbs with the noodle and one protein piece then do a minimal dip it wouldn't taste as bad...might eventually even taste good to you. But if you've tried it 7-8x through the years and still don't like it, then hey, you at least tried.

The way that you eat mam tom is wrong, you put too much sugar which made it harder to eat. You are supposed to mix it with a lot of lime juice to remove the strong smell, then add some chili to your taste.

there is 2 kinds of mắm tôm, in the south they called mắm tép, fermented the whole shrimps in a jar (my fav). in north, its like smaller shrimps like the videos. And you should try mắm tép, please, eat it with rice and coconut water

I love how she waits for your shudder each time, and then comes out with “ngon quá”! 😅 A Vietnamese friend back in university was getting bullied constantly by one guy in the dorms; just stupid nastiness that didn’t stop. Ok, Dustin. For those who can not do mam Tom as intended, this recipe is for you. If you are concern about the bacterias in the bottle then cook the bottle of “ mam Tom pha San” (already mixed mam Tom) to a boil. Then you don’t have to worry about diarrhea. Then add 1can of crush pineapple including all the juice ( fresh roped pineapple is even better). Add 1 table of sugar (adjust to your taste buds}. And last but not least, chop Hot peppers of your choice. Or sate or both. Little lime if you like. Even your mom and dad will love it. They key thing here is boil the mam Tom for a couple of minutes to kill the bacterias. It can cause diarrhea to weak stomach. Enjoy. You will be a fan of this recipe. You can dip any dish that you rolled in banh Trang. Bo nhunh Guam is best. Fish wrap is awesome. And wrap dish really.

Thực ra nêu ăn đúng cách bún đậu mắm tôm thì chỉ có chấm mắm tôm với thịt luộc, đậu hũ chiên và bún. Các loại khác không cần chấm: chả cốm, dồi hay nem quấn...vì mấy thứ này đã có gia vị. Mình nhìn mắm ở quán này dùng mắm bình thường khá nặng mùi,còn các quán chuẩn thì hay sử dụng mắm tôm chưng, đỡ mùi và đỡ gắt hơn.

Cô nghĩ rằng rồi có một ngày Dustin sẽ thích mắm tôm cho coi . Như cô là người gốc miền Nam và ngày xưa khi còn ở quê nhà , cô không thích mắm tôm , khi ăn bún riêu , chỉ nêm nước mắm . Nhưng đến khi xa xứ ( nghiã là hơn 30 năm rồi ) thì từ từ thích mắm tôm , nhứt là khi ăn nó với bún đậu hay bún riêu , bún thang . Ngoài ra các thứ mắm khác như mắm ruốc , mắm nêm , nắm cá lóc , cá linh , cá sặc , mắm tôm chua ... đều là món ưa thích từ xưa đến giờ cuả cô.

I heard someone recommended you try Pho Oh Yeah. I don't even know if you from Texas, if you are, do give it a try, if you can. It's located in Katy city (not very far from Houston). I don't personally know the owner, but he's super nice, super friendly. His name is Viet Thao. He's also a youtuber, if you want to know more about Pho Oh Yeah. They serve other dishes beside pho. If you still miss Vietnamese food while in States, he can recommend other places. Have a safe trip.

U should add hot oil, sugar water/sugar, and some "quất" (recommend at least 3) and stir them evenly using ur wood sticks. If u make it right, u would get something like beer bubbles, it tastes better and lighter than the original "mắm tôm"

Món này hay sầu riêng cũng có nhiều người Việt không ăn được hoặc không ngửi được, nhưng Dustin có biết tại sao lại phô mai Espoisses de Bourgogne, Cabrales hay Casu Marzu from Sardenia, Limburger...lại đắt thế dù chúng bốc mùi 'kinh khủng' hơn mắm tôm rất nhiều? Mình cũng chỉ ăn được mắm tôm chưng/stew fermented shrimp sauce with pork, và thích nước mắm nhẹ mùi. Do thói quen thôi mà!

It depends on how you mix it. You can't say you don't like it until you've tries a number of mixes. It's like fish sauce, it tatstes different depending on how its prepared. For christ sakes don't take a spoonful and eat it and don't put your nose to it.... and yeah have it with rice. Its like eating wasabi, a bit goes a long way. I see Aussie's take a chunk of wasabi on their first go and then cry that it tastes crap. Mom Tom is the same, do little dips and eat it with rice.

Mắm tôm này nếu ngừoi mới ăn thì nên vắt quất ( miên nam gọi là: quả tắc) , hoặc chanh và cho thêm ớt.. đánh lên cho sao cho nhiều bọt, như thế sẽ át mùi hôi tanh của mắm, lại tăng thêm vị ngon khi ăn cùng bún đậu và nhớ là phải ăn kèm các loại rau sống.

Cái món dùng để đòi nợ này mùi của nó còn làm người Việt Nam thấy sợ thì đừng mong người nước ngoài sẽ thích nó. Thứ hai là nhìn hình thức bên ngoài nó cũng không được mắt lắm, màu tím tím, sền sệt nhìn khá là ghê. Thứ ba là vị của nó đối với người nước ngoài chắc chắn còn kinh khủng hơn nước mắm.

I think mam tom eaten like that is gonna be intense for most people...even Vietnamese folks. I can eat mam tom when it's blended into the food already like in papaya salad or soups...but dipped fresh like that...uh, no. My favorite thing that's made with mam tom is the ground pork belly that's stir fried with a ton of minced lemongrass and mam tom...it's soooo good eaten with rice and cucumbers! You've got to try it!!
