It's actually true that your brain doesn't know that they're not real people so you actually fall in love/ get attached to them. As someone who has had huge crushes on many different characters, I know how much it hurts to try to convince your brain they can't love you back.

I feel empty after I finished a game, watching an anime and watching a series. I got so attached to them and it hurts that I finished it. This is the reason why most of the time I stop watching or playing anything that I feel like will grew deep inside me.

All my friends hate that I'm obsessed with this one anime character, but I love them like a real person. I've cried, smiled, and watched them grow as a person, I've seen them grow so much over the series, They have their own emotions, and problems, and even relationships, and I feel like I can relate to this character a lot. I know it's all fictional, but I just can't help but fall in love them. The characters name is Misaka Mikoto for anyone that's curious.

I came across some people making fun of people who become too attached to fictional characters that they don’t wanna be in a real relationship but in my opinion while it may seem silly and cringey, there is definitely some deeper about this. Personally I have a better connection with fictional characters because they’re not real. The fact they can only do and be what we want them to is what makes them easier to be attached to. I have been alone all my life not just by relationship but in most times with friendships too and immersing myself in the fictional world helps me every day to just keep living. So thinking about one day trying to form relationships with real people kind of scares me because 1) I feel like I’ll be abandoning a part of myself and 2) with fictional characters and worlds being there for me, Idk if I’d be able to properly handle real relationships because I would have to deal with somebody being their own person. Obviously this is stuff to be addressed in therapy and stuff but just saying, people who pick on those who are so deeply attached with fictional characters are lucky in a way because they probably aren’t dependent on them. It’s cringey and stupid Ik. But I don’t think I could live without my fictional world I built up with all my favorite characters and the version of me I’ve made up. It’s my escape.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but please don't feel ashamed for feeling deep attachment to a character. I love Scara from genshin impact and I don't think that will ever change. It wouldn't even be exaggerating to say that he is my everything.
