If you can't get soda ash you can very easily make your own by putting some baking soda in the oven at 200f for 1 hour. Great video

Soda ash is basically baking soda right? I just want to make sure they're not two different things

All my aunt told me was weigh your clothes, add the dye measured at 10% weight of the clothes, 20% common salt and 5% soda ash in hot water. Then put clothes in for about 40 minutes while occasionally stirring. For jeans sulphur dyeing is preferred.

This is good information. It sounds like she knew exactly the recipe for the specific dye she has experience with.

You mix the salt in with the dye when you mix it with water.

Hi i have watch alot of video on dye and caustic soda and yours is the best video so far. I try to mix both before putting it into hot water. How much dye do you need to mix with caustic soda before dying because i try an my clothes seems to be burn by the reaction. It did not dye to black as i wanted it but the sodada ash seem to have burn my cloth. Pls tell me what quantity of caustic soda i need to mix with dye before dying. Thanks

Hello Eric. Thank you for this positive feedback. I appreciate it very much. I have personally never worked with caustic soda before because it is so corrosive. You might find the information here useful... www.pburch.net/dyeing/dyeblog/C1093657698/E20060101101117/

Hi Melanie sorry for disturbing you again.i am looking forward to start a small dye business in my local area that is why i am making all this enquiry to get things right.what amount of soda ash to i need to mix with dye before dying? can i mix a dry dye with soda ash and store it in a container for later use?
@dyeandprints4 жыл бұрын
@@ericgoodwin7988 This is not a great idea. It is better for the dye and soda ash to meet on the fabric. If you pre-mix it and store it it can break down the color and affect its effectiveness. For the best results, the two chemicals are kept separate until they mix on the fabric in the liquid. I hope this helps?
