It is a shame we do not learn more about our body and the needs of our body in school. Food and sports are so important, yet... I my school, nothing really is taught. I feel like, 90% of the stuff we later on really need in our life, isn't even taught in school.

I think there is quite a bit of that, even at medical school, often as teaching is “received” rather than considered

I was diagnosed as have low vitamin D levels a few years ago. I presented as very tired and dizzy when I went to the doctor. He listened a lot of things that could be wrong with me. He scared me half to death by starting that list with cancer! I was so relieved to hear that the problem with low vitamin D and it was easily fixed. My test level came up as 9, so it's interesting to hear that a doctor would be having kittens about that number.

My level got down to 7, and I was put on that 10K/20K for several months. Like Dr Gill, my GP threw in Vit D when I was getting tested for a bunch of things. The cause was my job: I left home before the sun came up and worked indoors until nighttime, so I barely saw the sun for 2 years. I had that constant fatigue and aching bones, but it developed so gradually that it just felt normal; I never noticed how much I'd changed until I suddenly felt amazing after a few months on the mega doses, ha.

Vit D is so vital to the entire mindbody system... Living in Canada and working indoors, I take 2000 iu daily through the summer months and 5000 iu in the winter. This has kept me at the upper end of normal levels 👍 I would love to hear your thoughts on Vit K and magnesium, relating to Vit D.

This is a great reminder! As someone sensitive to the sun who works third shift most of my sun exposure is only in my 30 minute drive home from work in the mornings and although I typically get 1/2 - 3/4 of my recommended intake from the milk I drink I still feel like I should double check my levels to ensure I'm getting enough because I'm probably not given my circumstances. Im long overdue for a general checkup anyways (thanks covid) so it’s a good excuse to get that done simultaneously!

As someone with extremely low vitamin D it can have such an impact on your life that I never would have believed unless i had been in that position! My whole body hurt constantly. Luckily it;s on the up now and even at a level of 30 i feel much better. Im also outside for hours each day but being ginger i wear suncream every day on my face and on arms etc if showing so i assume this hasn't helped me in regards to vit d! I do wish some drs would take it more seriously though. "taking vitamin d tablets from tesco" won't fix such a deficiency!

Hey Dr Gill, what's your stance on virtual consultations? You for them all the time or do you prefer the face to face hands on approach?
@DrJamesGill3 жыл бұрын
Why not both? Personally I prefer face 2 face. BUT we don’t have enough resources, so speak to patients virtually, hopefully address a problem, but bring them down if needed It’s a little bit like asking are you a knife or fork person, we need both 😊

@@DrJamesGill Hard to get treatment for anything now. You get a blood test every 3 months and then get a call with the results and NEW pills to take. I have 16 bottles of pills now and most of them are pills to counteract the problems caused by other pills. Only preventative maintenance and no real care any more. I have a greatly qualified Family Nurse Practitioner who is as good as a Doctor; and, one in the emergency Room I go to (only when necessary) who is sensational and really knows medicine.
