I can not tell you how appreciative I am for this production documenting _The Dick Van Dyke Show._ I have been watching, enjoying and ultimately loving _The Dick Van Dyke Show_ since I was old enough to watch television. My perception and appreciation for the production and the cast’s quality, subtle genius and elegant quality - and even humanity - has only become greater in my estimation with my own age and maturity. I am also so pleased that you included so many of the minor and supporting cast, crew and production staff, people who I always value for their incredible talent whenever I encounter a television production I love but who rarely get the public credit they deserve. Thank you for shining a wide light on so much more of the Van Dyke show than, so far as I’m aware, has ever been illuminated before and allowing us all to enjoy its shining brillance.

Bravo! This was one of the top two comedies that I watched in re-runs. I was born in 1963, so by '72, the show was in syndication, as was "I Love Lucy." I grew up with these shows, and they were part of my childhood. Thank you so much for celebrating 60 years of Dick Van Dyke Show. I am 61 yrs old, and I still watch at least one episode daily. I feel like they were part of my family as well. Thank you and God bless.

As near perfect a sitcom as TV ever had..THE high water mark for the genre, in terms of writing, casting, and a mirror of the times it was made, while still remaining timeless. The DVD show was, indeed, the television sitcom's Camelot.

Your last point was much closer in some ways than many people think! Dick (at 35 on Dec. 13, 1960) was the most handsome man on television, and President Kennedy was just as great looking, at only 43, a full 27 years younger than the outgoing President Eisenhower. Mary, was absolutely gorgeous (and very talented in so quickly learning the fine art of comedy) at only 24, on Dec. 29, 1960. Of course, Jacqueline was just as gorgeous at only 32 (on July 28, 1961) Now, comes the really interesting coincidence among these famous couples! The day President Kennedy was inaugurated was Friday, January 20, 1961. The very same day, "The Dick Van Dyke Show" started filming its first episode! Although it did not air until October 3. The worst day in that golden era was, of course, when in the middle of filming "Happy Birthday and Too Many More" (aired on Feb. 5, 1964; seen after 1:16:40), the radio announced the president had been murdered on another Friday, two years, 10 months and two days after his inauguration. The cast decided there would be no studio audience, since no one was in the mood to laugh at such a sad time. The Dick Van Dyke Show continued its five-year run until the sad day it aired its final episode, "The Last Chapter" (Jun. 1, 1966, that I remember wishing it wasn't the end), as the series was my favorite of all the programs on the air then. I had watched it every Wednesday night since I found it in 1964. It would have started filming its first color season, in its 6th season, in Sep. 1966. I knew there would never be another series (even Mary's later named series) as great all-around as "The Dick Van Dyke Show." Oct. 3, 1961 - Jun. 1, 1966.

I grew up watching the Dick Van Dyke show. Literally. One thing I loved about this episode was that it showed such a kind bunch of people in every way, every time, yet these people were so human and so real. It was a great inspiration to me in my life. This was a great celebration of an iconic comedy classic.

I read an interview with Alan Zweibel, one of the original SNL writers. He said this show was an inspiration to him as well. He said he got into comedy writing because he wanted to work in an office with people like Rob, Buddy, and Sally. Unfortunately, the SNL office was nothing like the DVD office as so many of the SNL writers and cast struggled with drug abuse, including Zweibel.

I watched the Dick Van Dyke Show when I was a small child. Dick Van Dyke was SO FUNNY ! My Favorite thing about the show was the Physical Stunts and his body movements. The skit where he tells the story of the Drunk Uncle and he plays Drunk. Sits down and pours out of the chair like a Rubber Band. He was just so Amazing with the Body Stunts. It was an HONOR to meet him in person at Pheonix ComiCon 2014. :)

I love that there is at least one blooper that they just left in the series. I think it's a first season episode. They are in the kitchen and Rob reaches for the phone, picks it up and begins dialing. As he's holding it to his ear, he flips thru the phone book, scans down a page, taps it with his finger and says "That's right!" or something similar. Anyways, the audience picks us on the goof and lets out a bit of a laugh, and he glances up at the audience with a grin but he carries on with the scene. It goes by so quickly one could easily miss it.

Rose Marie was on the verge of being fired from the DVDS. As more of the focus shifted to Rob's home life, more screen time went to MTM and Rose Marie constantly complained about it to Carl Reiner. Her complaints fell on deaf ears however. Reiner told her, in NO uncertain terms, that this was the way it was going to be and if she didn't like it, he could find a replacement.

The Dick VanDyke show was very important to me. I watched and learned how to do slapstick along with comic timing. Laura was easy to look at for a budding young man. Rob helped me to see how an adult male acted. At home, my male model wasn't very good, so I watched Rob interact with everyone for clues on how I should act in real life. All love for The DVD show!

I had fun watching this ensemble of memories from original participants and heirs with a show that has endured the test of time. Seeing "bit" players, hearing that everyone was openly welcomed, with some considering the experience a career highlight is a testimonial as to how genuinely real and caring people were with one another at that time. I've always loved Dick Van Dyke. Step-in-Time. Thank you for sharing!.

There are no words to convey the significance and talents of this show. It still touches a comic cord. How moving to see the family members of all these artists. As Fame came to them, they were not blindsided by it. The most important part of living took center stage: loving their spouses and their children.

THANK YOU! So glad I found this video. This show was part of my childhood, watching with my family. It's wonderful to hear that these people were such good people in addition to their great talent. Hearing all the "inside" tidbits is always fun. For as anxious as I was to grow up and go out in my own, I'd give anything now for one more night with Mom and Dad and The Dick Van Dyke Show. ❤

I'd very much like to add my (English) voice to the clamour of congratulations which are seen below. What an extensive, comprehensive, and thoroughly deserved tribute to this always classic show. The only slight disappointment for me is that we didn't get to see Dick himself. I do hope he's OK. Again, many congratulations on a wonderful walk down memory lane. Thank you.

I’m currently watching this now. It’s neat to see the color shots along with the black and white film. Some are rehearsal footage and others are the actual taping of the show. I will say black/white really makes you pay more attention to the scenes since there isn’t all the color everywhere. If that makes sense. I never gave it much thought until I was watching it. Of course, if it was in real time I probably wouldn’t haven’t given it a thought. I was born in 64 so I might have watched the first run of reruns. When it snowed and I was home from school I would always watch it. Even then I knew his was good stuff.

The thing that I really loved about the show was that in the exchanges of dialogue between the characters, I never felt, just as with Andy Griffith, that they were insulting my/our intelligence with lame setups for even lamer punchline jokes. They let the situation and the physical comedy, and the timing of their delivery of the lines be the "funny"..not thinly disguised vaudevillian jokes. Further, I appreciated that it had an adult feel, at least as far as adults of that generation, to it with no childish put-down, insult humor. It was never ever that inane or mean-spirited. But, it was not fluff, either. Talent, relatability, and a clever intelligence all came together maybe as well as had ever been seen on TV to that point, and probably until Mary's show in the '70's and Newhart's first show. In that fashion, the DICK VAN DYKE show itself was brilliant, and the talent was obviously at that level, too. That, outside of news programming, and educational programming, and drama, is really what network television from the jump in the '40's, should have always been about. Lastly, this tribute was one of the best documentaries that I've seen..maybe, ever on youtube.. MARVELOUS JOB.. Thanks..

The Dick Van Dyke Show is just incredible. I fell in love with this show as a little boy in the late sixties, when it aired on WLWT on Saturday evenings. It was my favorite comedy show then, and is still my favorite comedy. The cast was first-rate, and the characters they brought to life were very believable. The cast evidently got along well, and that showed. The show regularly gave us not one happy couple (Rob and Laura), but another happy couple as well (Millie and Dr. Jerry Helper). Plus it gave us a woman in the office who was an equal (Sally Rogers). I also liked Buddy, Ritchie, and Mel. Ritchie was a generally good, but definitely not perfect, son. Not to mention how humorous he was).

Such a spectacularly wonderful show! Interesting to hear all the performers mention how family-like the show was and how talented everyone was. The DVDS was before my time, but I get to enjoy it on steaming channels. Interesting to see up and coming stars be guests. Great documentary. Hoping Hollywood give Dick Van Dyke a few more roles to play. I read he's 95 but still going strong. God Bless Him! Jeremy Clyde's memories were particularly poignant of Dick coming to set after giving an eulogy at Stan Laurel's funeral. Both Stan and Dick were brilliant performers.

It really should be shown on CBS, MEtv or any broadcast network or channel or even streaming service! Now please excuse me, because tonight MEtv is playing the 2 Stacey Petrie nightclub/girlfriend he’s never met episodes, and I want to make sure I don’t miss them!

We love it because it captured suburban life in the early 1960s before the counterculture movement took root and gave us Archie Bunker (a show I did watch a lot back in the day). DVDS is a time capsule of life in a more innocent time when people had decorum and respect for one another in a way that had moral fiber behind it.

I was about 4 years old when the DVD Show began and I watched it every week until it ended; plus re-runs. Even at 4 years old, I loved it, even though I obviously didn't understand what made it funny beyond Dick's physical comedy. I'm convinced, though, that the DVD Show shaped my sense of humor as an adult.
