I always use the "slow" cart for 200cc because the acceleration, handling, and low speed are a must if you don't have god-like reaction times

This is actually a big issue I've have with this game since the buff to mini-turbo with Deluxe. The fact the safest choice is also the fastest choice. To me it kinda removes the risk factor of playing super well but also having to be very aware of your surroundings. Currently everyone is running high acceleration in both time trials and online and to me that's just very odd. This change to mini-turbo (got waaaaaay overtuned) also made 90% of the kart combinations purely bad simply because you have to prioritize mini-turbo and acceleration. At least in MK8 for the Wii U, you would see a decent amount running risky options for that extra speed, and those who weren't that confident would run high acceleration. My only problem with MK8WiiU was firehopping since it made bikes utterly useless and in that sense I much prefer Deluxe since I've been using inside drifers since back then too. And there should never be a massive gap between 2 types due to a glitch/technique. I do think inside drifers needs a buff to how sharp they should be able to drift since they have a very hard time on 200cc simply because they can't turn sharp enough but that's a completely different topic. Anyways Imo there should always be a high/mid risk for a high to mid reward but currently its just very low risk for high reward. Again this is just my opinion, I still love this game but its just something that I'm not a huge fan of game design wise.

Yeah kinda all these reasons I still prefer the craziness of MKwii. It was about skill using the speed, not skill using the least intuitive cars in the game. When it says the kart is slow, I don't wanna use it.

For what it's worth, there actually is some variety in kart builds at the WR time trial level. For example, just yesterday a WR was set by a Roy Blue Falcon build, which only has a mid mini turbo stat but a very high anti-gravity speed. I do think Roller tires are a bit too strong though, it is distressingly hard to find a viable kart build that doesn't run roller tires. There's good kart and character variety, but tire variety needs some work. As long as you don't hard dump mini-turbo like Bowser Badwagon does though, you can def find plenty of viable builds.

The reason the slowest combo combo is faster than the fastest combo is because the slowest combo (Baby daisy & biddybuggy ) has a higher acceleration which means when the race starts you will accelerate faster and also if you get hit by an item you’ll gain your speed back quicker

You have to use a kart and wheels that have high acceleration and then learn how to use the joystick to maneuver around the turns when you drift to get the most acceleration from it. This is how you’ll be the fastest or at least my way of playing
