You hit the nail on the head when you said because you can. I've worn western clothes since I was old enough to buy my own. I fell in love with the west when I was a kid and watched Roy Rodgers and and Sky King on Saturday morning kid's television shows in the early 50's New Jersey where I grew up. In 1975 when I was 27 rears old I got some balls I sold everything I didn't think I'd need and along with my wife and 8 year old daughter packed up my pickup and headed out west to look for a homestead. We ended up in Montana and bought 37 acres in the Rockys. We lived in an army wall tent the first year while we built our first cabin. I worked odd jobs I could find and actually worked on some ranches and was a part time cowboy for a spell Lol. Cool video but the shoes with toes,,, well I'm still wearin boots. Keep making videos, your good at it.

As I see it, you don't really need a special reason to dress as a cowboy other than the fact that you like western wear and love the cowboy look. Whether you're male or female, if you've always identified with the old westerns of yesteryear (who hasn't?), then that's all the reason it should be to dress as you see fit. Since my hairs getting grey-n-white, that part of Duke's older character will be easy! lol And it always amazes me how the desert can be 140 in the daytime. Then down to like 45-50 at night!? okay first you need to know the definition of cowboy which is someone who herds or tends cattle/cows... its not a dress style. you can wear a business suite and dress shoes and drive a Prius and if you herd cattle your a cowboy. the way you dress is called WESTERN. its a style. and usually consist of the boots the hat ect... yes cowboys dress western naturally because of the work they do. if you see someone wearing western style clothes dont be thinking oh jeez look at this fake cowboy... also riding a horse doesn't make you a cowboy either. if people want to dress western let them theres nothing wrong with it. when you see someone wearing baggy pants hanging below his waste with an over sized shirt on does that make him a rapper? or fake rapper? lol let people wear what they want. and worry about your selfs.

The only thing that kinda threw me off a little is the 5-finger Vibram shoe:) Them shoes mismatch your outfit so much, it’s incredible :) Plus, I suspect you don’t want to feel every little stone and rock with your toes. Now if a person wears clothing from their favorite sports team, are they asked, "Do you think you play for that team?" There is no reason why some ignoramous should ask anybody why they dress like a cowboy. It is simply just another way to dress. Deal with it.

why do you wear a leather hat instead of a felt or straw?

I like leather.

I dress like a cowboy when I go hunting and bushcraft, when I'm in town I only wear jeans and a flannel shirt sometimes I'm using a t-shirt when it's hot of course tucking it into my jeans and always using my favorite denim jacket

I'm curious: Why did cowboys (in Hollywood movies, at least) wear long-sleeve shirts, even under the sun of a very hot summer? Why did they wear long-johns all the time? ------ (gilberto lehrer from brazil)

I've never researched Old West clothing styles, so I can't say which facets depicted by Hollywood are historically accurate and which aspects are total fiction. But... Having worked in film, I can tell you 99% of the time, aesthetics are more important than historical accuracy. Movies are just storytelling. Campfire tales. Legends. Mythology. The _fun_ of the story is more important than the _truth_ of the story.

Why in the world would ever want to apologize and explain yourself for dressing like a cowboy or trying to be a cowboy or merely wanting to be a cowboy? I mean, it's your life, right?

Friendly Troll Warning:Don't forget the rattlers! A pistol is very handy out there. The hat; I used to be all about the BB cap until I bought my first Stetson in '12, (rather my only Stetson as I haven't bought a second one... Yet.) This is a more practical head piece than any worn by men anywhere, and most ladies dig it.I miss my Jean Jacket, haven't worn one since the late 80's but, it really was a great guard against the sun and traipsing through brambles. The oiled dusters I've worn since then are just as practical, if not better. Kudos to you for rocking an ageless style. The shoes... Can't formulate an opinion as I haven't ever worn a pair. I regularly wear over-ankle Hiking shoes and occasionally wear a pair of very expensive Tony Lama boots I bought on a whim while in North Dakota on a Old West tour. Both of these have protected my feet on numerous adventures into the wilder areas of the west and Alaska. I hope you never have to encounter a Devil's Club in those Toe Shoes, lol.

Mojave Greens are some of the deadliest pit vipers in the world. I haven't seen any, but believe me, I sure ain't forgetting about them! No need to worry about a Devil's Club out in the desert, as those are more of a forest plant. However, the Goat Head (Tribulus terrestris) is the big concern in Los Angeles and plain old creosote branches can be quite sharp.

Why don't you just wear hiker's sun clothes that are both lightweight and breathable? I've done my fair share of desert hiking, and I find that hiking clothes, long pants, and breathable sun shirts do a better job at keeping you protected from the sun, while keeping you cool and fresh. I hate jeans. They're extremely uncomfortable, and as the saying goes... "cotton kills." Cotton is terrible for wicking away moisture and drying off. Jeans are also bulky and heavy. A durable and lightweight hiking pants would be much more comfortable and cooler. I've taken my hiking clothes across all sorts of off-trail bushwacking, and they hold up fine. As for boots, what about getting a pair of hiking boots? Personally, I hate boots. I use trail running shoes, but hiking boots would provide most of the benefits those provide, while being more breathable and less weight. Any extra ounce of weight on your feet and your body adds up over the course of a day. I mean, I get if it's preference. We all have preferences in wear. Personally, I find "cowboy" culture and "westerns" cringy, or sometimes even embarrassing. But that's just me, haha.

1519-1700s After the Spanish arrived in Mexico in 1519, ranches were established and stocked with cattle and horses imported from Spain. Landowners mounted native Indians on well-trained horses and taught them to handle cattle. By the early 1700s, cattle ranching had spread north into what is now Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico and south to Argentina. The native cowboys were called vaqueros(from the Spanish word for cow) and developed roping skills, using braided rawhide reatas (the root word for lariat). Starting in 1769, a chain of 21 Franciscan missions eventually stretched from San Diego to San Francisco, marking the beginning of California’s livestock industry
