I agree with that partly that they won't have been able to take into account the feedback from season 1. That said RTD did have great series in the past and there are also some different writers in the mix this time and it looks like it will be more serialised too so hopefully all those factors allow for it to be better and make season 1 more of a fluke! But I'm not setting my hopes too high either; cautiously optimistic though!

I personally don’t understand the “it’s not made for me anymore” trend that’s sprouting up these days. Like if it doesn’t work. It doesn’t work. Lots of people didn’t like it and it’s becoming a bit of a worrying complacency to just blame people’s TASTES than to be critical of the product itself. Doctor Who can be for everyone right NOW. There’s such little reason for it not to be. It’s probably the most universal show interms of its demographic. It can be scary, slow, fast, fun and heartfelt at the same time.

I do hope they pivot towards sci-fi a bit more, because it doesn't have to be very much. If you want to use some monster from folklore in a story, you can still do it. It's only as hard as saying they're some kind of alien or something, but also I think it can make writers more creative to have that little obstacle to work around. Season 1 often felt like the answer to most of my questions would be "just go with it" or "it's space magic lol", so I kinda stopped asking, and I didn't feel particularly invested most of the time. The exceptions were where the threat was properly set up and understandable. It sounds obvious but the whole "how are we going to get out of this one?" question is really important to adventure writing. It's fun to try to figure that out... and it's boring if you know there's no way you could possibly figure it out.

I definitely think that Doctor Who needs new writers. I think the series also needs a 'bible' of things to not go against. Things set in stone that they do not change, to prevent things like the Timeless Child from reoccuring that... Really divided the fanbase because of their sweeping, broad change out of nowhere with no real meaning or impact. Big Finish, for example, certainly has its fair share of mediocre stories, but has some really fresh writing, with some of their stories in my opinion being much BETTER than the show itself, never stepping on the toes of major canon. I think Doctor Who was... 'wounded' by only really having three major showrunners with very few other writers coming in here and there, who eventually kind of felt like they really can just do whatever they want with the show, past stories and history be damned. It needs fresh blood, new outlooks, and it needs to keep its creators and showrunners on a leash. Either that or the show needs another decade or so on hiatus, but that absolutely won't be hapening given all the spinoffs and tie ins coming along now.

An example for doctor who might be that Rassilon claims to have invented regeneration, but the Sisterhood maintains that Regeneration was pioneered on karn, and later stolen by Rassilon. To steal a concept from the show itself ... Most events are in flux. They can be changed, revised, altered. But certain times are fixed points. They must always happen and cannot be changed. The series needs a list of things that are fixed points.

Just because RTD has come back and said its a show that has no rules doesnt erase history lol. Up until the last several seasons of the show the only unwritten rules that were broken were minor errors by various writers. A lore/character bible like most shows have would help in that aspects when dealing with multiple writers

Hang on a minute Harbo, there wasn't too much wrong with the original 2005 relaunch, it relaunched the series and people seemed pretty enthusiastic about it. That crew (of writers, producers, directors, lighting techs, set designers, camera people etc etc) were new to each other, i would have thought, so making that a reason for the first Gatwa season being shaky seems pretty shaky reasoning to me?

Only big problem I had was that the focus was too much on magic/fantasy. Sure it's fine for a bit, but not all of it. People complain about Daleks always being present, but I actually missed that. Not the Daleks specifically, but just some tie to older Who. Any regular monster from either the classic series or the revival would've made me appreciate it more.

This "New team" theory doesn't make sense. RTD handpicked his Bad Wolf Productions team. Commencing on Doctor Who content, for 2022's TPO The Doctor. Since then filming has returned to Wales and we have had multiple Moffat stories. None of this is new. Tennant, Donna, Sylvia, Wilf and Sean were pivotal (for Disney). All returning actors. Kate Stewart and UNIT have been a key presence, for about 12 years now. All returning actors. Damn, we've even had the returns of Mel Bush, Sutekh. Teagen, Ace and whatever the "Guardians Of The Edge" was all about. Again... All returning actors.

I usually don’t like this kind of theory (Rory is the Master kind of thinking), but she wears clothes very similar to Clara, Clara has her own TARDIS, and she is kiiiiind of immortal? I know she should eventually get her pulse back and eventually die but in terms of canon we don’t really know when that would be… she could live for years and years with her body somehow aging. As it stands, RTD is less _experimenting_ and more "smashing his toys together," refusing to follow the established rules (be that the rules of Doctor Who or just writing in general) or any sort of actual logic, choosing instead to make Doctor Who a fantasy show because "fantasy has no rules" and proclaim that anyone who has any issues with that blatantly incorrect and nonsensical statement or the activism he's shoving in must be homophobic, racist, or both. I personally just don't find it exciting to be let down every week and then be insulted by the showrunner and main lead for not resonating with their "we can do whatever we want regardless of the consequences" attitude and finding the "Doctor's" constant crying and inability to stand up to others to be out of character; that's not fun or entertaining, nor is it right for the audience to be treated like that when all they want to see is a badass guy using his brain to outsmart his enemies and doing his best to help out of kindness.

Who was Mad Jack and what was his connection to Roger ap Gwilliam? Without Ruby's curse interfering in the new timeline, who's going to deal with Roger (we absolutely should've been told in _this_ episode that the Doctor was involved rather than waiting until the series finale, and literally would've been as easy as having Ruby question the Doctor on what happened to "the most dangerous Prime Minister" after he'd brought him up at the end)? What was the woman saying that could terrify people in such specific, identical, and targeted ways? Why did Roger resign when Ruby's curse simply makes people want nothing to do with her? Unlike episodes such as Midnight, the unanswered questions in 73 Yards are necessary for the plot to be believable, and their absence just makes things too vague and contrived to be interesting or worth anyone's time.

If RTD is writing it then it’ll be crap. I do not have your confidence, but then, as a Christian, Straight, White, conservative, Right wing, Guy, New Who just is not made for me, so I probably just do not understand it and its *bad Writing* , which I assume is done on Purpose to "subvert the Expectations" of People like me. I miss the Days when it, although Doctor Who was always moderate Left in its message and tone, had good Writing (back in the glory days of Terrance Dicks, Malcolm Hulke and Robert Holmes) and could thus give us both Mister Chinn (an absolute Blithering Idiot whom even I, who am far more like Mister Chinn (including the Garbling!) than I care to admit, find to be absolutely Hilarious!) and the Brigadier (whom everyone loves because he is, well, the Brigadier and basically the most awesome "Army Uncle" ever to appear on TV and endlessly Quotable: "Chappie over there...the one with the wings".. "just for once I would like to meet an Alien menace that Isn't immune to Bullets!" "that'll show 'em!" ) for the "Right wing" as it was made for.... Everyone... and was not just a succession of badly written "Grrr. Trump Bad. Man Bad. Whites Bad" Extreme Left/Woke Twitter Tropes like now due to the show being made, seemingly, only for the Tmblerati :( or could give us a Scientific lecture on Hermaphrodite Invertebrates (Alpha-Centauri, who really was, under *Science* ,an "It" as It was a Hermaphrodite Invertebrate!) without it Descending into "Grrr...Straights Bad! Affirm all 9000 of my made up and non-existent Genders or you are a Nazi!" Unscientific, Feelings based, Nonsense like now, again due to *bad Writing* ! I am just going to go back to the Jon Pertwee (who was actually the first Doctor to Cry, when Aggedor (who became something of a "pet" for the Doctor) was killed in The Monster of Peladon, we did not see the Doctor cry again until Lytton's Death (Yes, *6* , of all Doctors, broke down at that!), while it is Constant, virtually every Episode, with Ncuti however due to *bad Writing* and it makes the Doctor, a Worn Out, Traumatized and Broken old Warrior, a Tired old War-Horse! come across as a Wimp, which the Doctor should never come across as! He is a *Warrior* like the Brigadier (who let us not forget had the Crowning moment of Awesome in Battlefield, facing off against Satan himself...and Winning!), not a Wimp! this is the *Doctor* for goodness sake, the man who has sent whole Dalek Fleets Fleeing in Terror at the very mention of his Name! he should never come across as a Wimp! while it was Ok in the other two examples as both were the result of Genuinely Traumatic Experiences for the Doctor, although I still think the best reaction was at the end of "Warriors of the Deep" with the "Thousand Yard Stare" from Peter Davidson as he whispers in a completely broken Monotone "there should have been another way"...showing the Doctor was too traumatized to even cry....no Emotions left, just sheer, Broken, Trauma, and it is that moment of absolute Devastation that just shows the sadly missed Potential of that Serial, having the Doctor Cry constantly however is just...Disgusting! as that is Not the Doctor!) and Tom Baker Years I think, as they had the one thing New Who is sorely Missing.. *good Writing* ! Without good Writing, series 2 is Doomed before it even Starts, and, basically, I do not think RTD is even Capable of good Writing anymore as he has allowed his Politics to "delete" his Talent!

I have to agree with you I liked Season 1 but I didn’t much enjoyed it as much as I thought I did though there were some excellent moments but I have to say that Ruby was a OK Companion despite her arc just being a bit floppy, so I’m hoping Season 2 will be much better then Season 1 and I think Belinda will be much better than Ruby

I went back and watched the series again from the Ecclestone reboot, just to see if Id grown out of the show or if it has genuinely been poor for the last few years. And it has genuinely just been poor. Its upsetting how great it was and how much it has fallen. I loved it until the end of Capaldis run. I actually had high hopes with the new specials when they brought Tennant back. It wasnt as good as it had been, but I realised quickly that it was Tennant and Tate that carried those episodes. I thought the casting for the new Doctor showed a lot of promise. But its still just trying to shoehorn things in rather than just produce good stories.

If this is only 8 episodes it’s gonna be just as rushed I liked season 1 or season 14 but it needed like 10 episodes I think every show needs to be 10 episodes per season in general the reason we are getting “bad series” is because 6 or 8 is just way to short for any series it’s not enough time to do anything per series same with episode length needs to be over an hour like other shows because the length now per episode is not good enough to wrap up a weekly story that’s contained just my opinions I guess but I know people will agree

I don't think RTD lost his spark or anything, he just fell asleep on his laurels. He just knows he achieved so much that he thinks that whatever he creates is golden and he's surrounded by people who respect him too much to tell him otherwise.

I wouldn't even say that. He could be trying really hard but the problem is we, as a society, have moved on from his type of Doctor Who storytelling. We want darker themes, higher stakes, richer characters, more complex subjects and rich, interwoven narratives. We want to dive into a world, drown in it and escape and chew over ideas and interpretations. Davies is just high camp, showy and superficial which worked in the mid 00s going forward but doesn't work now.

I already love Belinda and I can tell she's gonna be a really cool companion. Ruby was fun but got boring quickly due to the unnatural lack of any conflict that even the Doctor and Rose had at times.

Well it certainly can't be any worse, the trailer showed more promise. The only thing to be worried about it RTD's lack of consideration for the majority feedback, which was the constant crying, he acknowledged it and said there'd be a lot more of it. Hopefully this season is actually for Doctor Who fans and not just to satisfy his ego and own mediocre fan fiction. He hyped up one of the episodes again as one of the best things he's written, but said the same thing about 73 Yards so yea it's a bit hard to put faith in him atm.

Sorry, I don't share your optimism and I am no longer prepared to give DW the benefit of the doubt, as I had been doing for years, even through all the eye-bleeding wretchedness of Season 1, right up to the foul stink of dog shit that was Empire of Death. Your assessment of the next season, on the back of one trailer, seems not so much reading between the lines but outright wishful thinking and projection. It's as if you're pleading for it to be good. I do understand the motivation, honestly. But, this time round, I ain't buying. I finally tapped out with JTTW and from what I've heard and seen in multiple reviews, including yours, I'm 100% happy in that choice. And I won't be going back until such time that everyone - absolutely everyone - who has been involved in the making of the programme since 2005 doesn't get within a hundred miles of it ever again. They're creatively exhausted, out of ideas and have nothing interesting to say. As a result, the show is stagnant, predictable, lifeless, feeble and boring, endlessly recycling its hoary old 'new Who' tricks, failing to thrill, excite, intrigue or engage. It has already long passed being merely moribund and is now well settled into terminal rot. So, good luck. I hope your cautiously optimistic anticipation meets reality at least halfway. But I won't be putting any money on it. I might watch your channel to find out. But I certainly won't be watching any more of RTD's astonishingly ill-advised second coming.

I like the chibs era a fair amount but my fave era is Moffats by a super wide margin. This new reboot/series one whatever rtd is calling it was sub par. He is writing too much with too weak scripts (73 yards being the lone exception)

While not perfect, I'm confident s1 while get re-appraised eventually, though probably not for a couple of years, outsideofthe finale it's prettyfun and creative, if a bit held back by cliché. I'm honestly more cynical about s2 or at the very least the ep1,4 and the finale as I feel they'll be painfully generic or formulaic, it was more forgivable for s1 to get thr obligations out of RTD's system but the introduction of another present day Earth companion, it's going to alot of rinse and repeat rather than just diving into the adventures. I've given up getting invested in the over arching story, and so I am going to focus on the stand-alone stories.
