There’s a guy who walks 3 large un-neutered male bull mastiffs at the same time in the street where we walk our 2 dogs one at a time.. They’re unmuzzled and they go nuts at the following: other dogs, random passers by, children, bicycles, motorbikes, trailers, tractors and cats. It’s only a matter of time before they pull him over and he lets one or all go. I think there’ll be another dog attack soon. Police hands tied.

there's a girl in my area that has a 8st pitbull she likely weighs less than that herself... it pulls her around like she's the b***h... it chases other dogs and several times has already got into scuffles. a few months ago it attempted to fight my friends akita... luckily he was smart enough to unleash the Akita and its well disciplined... it pinned the pit down and he put his knee across it until it calmed down and she tightened the leash to pull it away now if that's a smaller dog or child there's gonna be a problem. police have just said its ot bit anyone yet and it's not a banned breed the whole thing is out of control

I think the issue with these XL Bully’s and the like is they can be the nicest dogs, but they all have a little crazy switch which may never flip in its lifetime, but if it does, then someone’s getting mauled. And that’s it they can’t go back, they have to be put down. In a way that your mutts and Labradors just don’t have.
@1PrinceWilliam

I respectfully disagree with the latter part of your comment. As someone who works with dogs, I can confidently say that barring any genuine psychological issue, there are no crazy switches that flip at random. Knowing and understanding body language is key. A dog can’t lie! When a dog decides to attack, it only happens after a series warnings signs (granted you know how to read it.)

Sometimes all it takes are a few days of no exercise, a tragedy or stressful home situation like a divorce or a death, or a scare whilst on the lead. They choose aggression when they can’t run away. For some it’s gradual and isn’t addressed which escalates over time, for others it’s an instant snap. Just like with people. I’m a dog walker I’ve seen both.

In the US some people deliberately train dogs to be aggressive on command, they use them as weapons rather than use guns and knives because they probably have been banned from owning a firearm, so its possible that's what they do here, cant have a weapon so train a dog to be your weapon. My dog is a rescue born in a shelter (yes, I live in the States, it’s an issue here). She’s a mix of American Bully, Pitbull, Poodle, Cocker Spaniel, Boxer and Chow Chow (majority being American Bully).. She is the sweetest dog, even when she was a puppy wouldn’t so much a nibble my fingers. She’s my running and hiking partner, just a soft little sweetheart. That said I’ve seen her get defensive and possessive around other dogs and she scared of children… She actually tries to run away from them. So as much as I know she’d never come after me (she even sleeps on the bed with me) I always keep my eye on her around dogs for signs she’s feeling threatened and would never leave her around children. Bottom line, you have to know your dog. I don’t think any dogs should be banned but at the same time you are responsible for anything that may go wrong. If it can’t be in certain situations, like around other dogs or children, do not put it in that position

Over the past couple of years I have notices dogs behaving more aggressively. My spaniel is very social and calm and likes to greet other dogs, but I hardly let him now. About 50% of the dogs we pass are muzzled and their walkers will make them heel as we go past, with most straining against the leash as we walk by. The other 50% are a gamble. Many will bark and intimidate my dog as we go past. I can only surmise that people do not bother training their dogs any more.

Ignorance of dog owners is the number one culprit in all of this! Too many people get dogs for selfish reasons without taking into account the dogs wants and needs. For example, a high energy dog will never be “normal” with 10-20 mins of exercise a day!

@@charlesfaure1189 a properly educated populous (dog owners, non-owners and children) prevent these episodes from ever occurring. As someone who’s worked as a dog trainer, I can’t tell you how many owners struggle with the idea that it’s their job to manage or contain their dog’s energy. Many owners, and non owners alike, tend to view excitement or anxiety as being happy. So instead of introducing their dog to rules and boundaries so they can understand what it is they want, they actively sow chaos. Dog bites and attacks are never unprovoked! The dog will give you all the warning signs - they are incapable of lying. But if any owner doesn’t know how to read them, trouble is soon to follow.
@1PrinceWilliam
@1PrinceWilliam Жыл бұрын
@@Snozcumbers respectfully, a 10 tonne bite pressure is a gross exaggeration. A dogs bite force is related to its size, not breed - the locking on point is valid. For example, a pitbull on average has a bite force of 235 psi (pounds per sq. inch) whereas an English mastiff has average bite force of 550 psi. No dog (breed) is inherently bad or vicious but it can certainly learn such behaviors.

The only people who buy these dogs to protect themselves are either overtly aggressive themselves or hyper-anxious. They will lunge at anything you find frustrating or annoying, and if that is what you are doing, you should be banned from owning dogs altogether. We have enough abused dogs in the world without people with your stated viewpoints turning them into meat fueled missiles. One final thing though. What consequences do you have of people owning dogs? I have more consequences of my neighbor having a peacock that screams sooooo loud, than I have of my other neighbor that has a dog… And if we ban dogs, what’s next? We ban martial arts as it makes people dangerous? Or cars, even with permits it still kills wayyyy more people than dogs. And if we ban dogs is it all dogs or just certain breeds? Because, if we ban one breed, another breed will become the most dangerous one and than we ll have to ban that breed…at one point even the chihuahua will become the most dangerous dog… Permits or license, that I could be open for. And more expensive isn’t the solution either… or do you think someone that wants a dog especially to attack or to protect, will be scared of spending some money?

Define a violent behavior … If it’s violence you want to abolish, I agree, but small dogs are in general more violent, I have a staffy and I’ve had a Shih tzu and that thing was way more violent than my staffy. Difference is in the consequences if both get violent. A smaller dog being violent or aggressive towards my staffy is the scenario I hate, because if they get into a fight, my staffy will probably win and who knows what’s left of a pomerian for example and my dog will be seen as a dangerous dog, even if he was on a leash and not attacking but being attacked and just defended himself. But one thing is for sure, the owners need to be trained more, imo and definitely held responsible more.

Some people have taken the idea of self-service to extremes! One of the problems with drug rehabilitation is the Government come at it from a punitive direction, so rather than offer it only to those addicts who are motivated to get off drugs which would increase the success rate of the programs, they try to force people who don't want to get off drugs to get off them, which makes these programs much more expensive & increases the failure rates. You save the high street by reducing VAT for items sold in the high street to (eg 12%), and add 3% LVAT (Local VAT) which is a tax exclusively for the local amenities and would replace business rates. The figures could be tweaked, obviously 0% VAT would have the high street thriving to the detriment of online and out of town shopping, which isn’t what we want, and the current 20% means online and out of town does better than the high street, because of their convenience. There should be a sweet spot VAT rate applied just to the high street where the high street, out of town and online can thrive equally. You would start to see the return of big names to the high street, who would be able to sell products / white goods etc cheaper if bought on the high street.

start at the beginning, every canine in existence is the result of taming wolves, wolves operate in a pack, if you bring a canine into your home it's no longer a family, it's a pack, packs having pecking orders, if the canine doesn't know it's place in the pecking order it will challenge it. in the early 1900's aristocrats were a bit obsessed with eugenics as a result canines started getting bred for certain traits (there's a video of cummings father in law being one of these heathens somewhere), scent work, blood sports, the whole 9 yards. as a result you have different breeds and those breeds also due to inbreeding have a lot of health defects, the pitbull which is a recent breed was bred for blood sports as a result it's often got the capacity to be quite aggressive but at the same time so did the wolves where it all initially started. similarly the collie is the most intelligent breed, why?, 100 years of mental conditioning that's why, it's a sick experiment really but essentially the point is several things a) don't ever take a canine that you don't have the favoured environment to train, walk in b) canines are not fashion accessories, c) if you're inexperienced with canines get a small dog d) if you have a big dog keep it on a leash and muzzled in public spaces unless you have gone to a forest or big public park e) never leave any dog unaccompanied around small children f) try to socialise your dog with other dogs and people who engage with your territory such as the postman and visitors from being a puppy, reinforce positive behaviour like obeying commands and being docile with other dogs with treats and praise. g) don't ever put your faith in the behaviour of people who are not members of the pack not triggering the animal.

It’s not the heat that makes dogs go mental. It’s the lack of care, meaning also and mainly to give it exercise, both mentally and physically, otherwise it can go mental. Depending on the dog and it’s breed, it needs it more than other types. Years ago I took over a Dalmatian, the owner wanted to get rid of it because it had too much energy and was becoming dangerous for their young kids. But they assured me it was a great dog and I didn’t need to worry to let him home alone while I went working, because they often let him alone in a room and he could even hold himself for about 24h. Yeah, that makes a dog go mental… especially dogs like Dalmatians that have a lot of energy and need to get rid of it. Locking a dog up for 24h and then expecting him to be a couch potato is mental, not the dog…

A dog's breed does play a huge factor into its behaviour. Yes, it's unfair to say that a dog is a killer dog solely because of its breed. But it takes a lot of effort to train a retriever not to retrieve, to stop a terrier chasing small animals, or train a scenthound not to walk with its nose to the floor. Breeds that are specifically bred to fight and maim other dogs, like these XL Bully dogs, should be restricted to people who can safely own them. (I'm also pretty certain the 'nanny dog' label for pitbulls is a myth.)
