This is a SUPER good video! It is really helpful to understand the rationale behind the cost of your services. If you haven't already, please consider creating a page breaking down the stages of the process, and the financial figures for that. It might be very helpful for clients, and give the the full picture of the entire process.

This is a great video, I've had my first couple of commissions recently and they basically wanted me to do it for free even though they asked me to do the work. I'm left handed to so I find your videos really useful! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for making this video! Whenever I mention my rates, I always get feedback that I'm to expensive. They don't believe me when I say that it's a lot of work

Haha now you can send them the link to this so they understand why ;)

It is so much work! Not to mention that you can't do them all in one take so you have to split it into multiple sessions (depending on the size of the order). Personally, my hand starts cramping after awhile and my vision gets really weird so I know I have to stop/take a break and continue later!

Jeannie, I totally forgot to mention that! SOOO true when you're doing an order of a ton of them.

Don't justify it in terms of hours of work. It took you a lifetime to write like that, countless hours of practice, trail and error, testing inks and stationary, drawing and erasing pencil lines, mixing inks, cleaning nibs, and so on. You also didn't touch on photographing completed works, which can also be very time-consuming. I charge based on value to the client, not hours of work. I would never punish myself for being efficient.

Great video. I do wedding hair and makeup and people don't get why bridal services "cost so much." I'm curious, do professional calligraphers provide the envelopes? Or does the client?
@elisaanne7 жыл бұрын
sugarbumpkin that’s such a great question thanks for asking!! If I do an envelope calligrapher order that is a-la-carte the client will provide the envelopes because they already have envelopes that matches the invitation suite (wherever they purchased them from). However, if someone books a package with me for custom wedding invitations the envelopes are always provided for them & the price for addressing is built into the package!
