Great video... so much of what you say I hear from my friends and some of my family. The truth is since my Wife and I bought a caravan our lives have changed so much for the better. It has brought us even closer in our relationship. We now share something we love with a passion. We have had 10 trips away this year and while some mock us about our caravan none of them can say they have had 10 holidays this year. So roll on 2019 and all of our caravan adventures, I wish each and and everyone of you a happy Caravanning 2019.

Thanks for the shout out Gareth. Great points made, I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been held up by a car or van in front of me while I’m towing! We have had 49 nights away this year, 7 weeks away in a caravan, can’t beat it. When I tell people who don’t caravan that I have central heating in my van they don’t believe me. It’s a growing industry which is getting bigger and users are getting younger! Great vlog, great channel, keep up the good work. cheers Martin

Ah thanks Martin really appreciate it, we worked out we spent about 2 months in the van last year it was amazing and no issue comfort and facilities wise. We have done less trips this year due to getting the house together and France but I think if people knew what we knew the industry would explode. Our pleasure with the shout out - brilliant videos mate.

It’s great to see younger people that are so enthusiastic about caravaning life, we love it and are always trying to convert the naysayers, as soon as they see pictures of the great places we’ve been and how nice our caravan is, space bed shower etc, we had a 2018 single axle 7.5 mt just traded in for a a brand new7.98 mt twin axle ,we tow with an l200barbarian 2017 so not exactly slumming it were are a couple in our 50s I’m a truck driver so used to getting stick about holding people up or being in the way, but we go early mornings if going far to just get going,I keep up to speed limits easily.and don’t hang around,there’s a much better reception to touring caravans in Europe we have found.

Thanks for raising this and promoting caravans and Motorhomes. We are trying to show people in our films that caravans are bright and have all the creature comforts. And they are great for making friends and getting time with the family. Also for discovering and learning about new places or places you have missed just up the road. Made nearly 80 films for the community in the last 12 months and hopefully will make more to come in the next year , which will dispel some of the myths surrounding caravanning. Keep up the good work. Juliet and Phil

Exactly I think it’s so important that people thinking of getting into the hobby can use the channels on You Tube so see what it’s all about and leave their previous thoughts on the subject behind.

Yes, great points raised and thanks for taking the time to discuss. I think you're right that people who don't caravan have no idea how lovely the newer vans can be...guess they are missing out!
@Caravannery6 жыл бұрын
They are missing out massively, come And go whenever you want and explore different places - yes please - I think it’s a wonderful way to spend your time but Caravanning does split opinions with some people. Like you say, if they don’t like it it’s their loss 😁

Great vlog Gareth, you make some really interesting points that we hear lots too. We either have people tell us they are so jealous of what we do and wish they could do it, or they just don’t get it at all and would rather sit by a pool in Benidorm 🙄

Thanks for the comment guys, exactly - we hear “Na not for me, I prefer five star luxury” from people who hardly ever get away. That’s not for us, get away as often as possible and we love it

Thanks for the comment Dave, the best thing to do is go local-ish and take your time, your confidence grows with every trip. Before long you’ll be setting up like a formula one team. Best pastime in the world and thanks for watching our vids and taking the time to comment.

We get a bit of grief from work colleagues and friends too. I can't put my finger on exactly why the perception of Caravnning is as you/we see. I'm absolutely fine with it, the most important thing for us is seeing the kids smiling, having fun and enjoy the time we spend together. Regarding driving and towing, I reckon a good proportion of frustration when get stuck behind a coach, lorry, caravan is sheer ignorance to the law and speed limits! Take care, Andy

As always, thanks for the comment Andy. You guys have so much fun when you get away. Totally agree on the speed limit comment too, people don’t get that different rules apply.

Another great video. Proportionally there are probably more older carvanners than younger ones in part to them having more free time and perhaps some retirement money to treat themselves to a new set up. This then feeds into that prejudice that older people aren’t as exciting as younger ones which, if anyone hasn’t noticed, everyone was young once. It’s one of those perceptions that you realise is nonsense the older you get. I’m 48 now, ancient according to my daughter, but having just as much fun as I did in my late teens/early twenties when I was out every week dancing to happy Monday’s at some rave on a beach in Blackpool or moshing to Nirvana. We love getting away and caravan is that natural step on from tents as we want to go away more often, more easily, throughout the year and can’t face drying out bits of tent in every room in the house for a week. It’s what you bring. Everyone is different. I can’t wait for our next escape.
@Caravannery6 жыл бұрын
Hi Neale, wow, fantastic comment. That’s such a good point, lots of people I’ve spoken too on sites have said they have recently retired and took out a lump sum of their mortgage to buy their pride and joy and go on lots of holidays and fair play to them. You mention you’ve got a tent for weekends away and festivals everyone’s like yea that’s cool. Then you’ve got a camper van and the same. Mention a motorhome or caravan and it’s the groan reaction. When it’s all the same thing, just means your not drying kit out as you said (although we’ve been caught out with the awning ha ha). I’m turning 40 next month and feel in my 20s (apart from my battered knees) and we have a great time getting away in the van, exploring we absolutely love it.
@steven50186 жыл бұрын
I throw the question back at them and ask them what makes their holiday so interesting and what do they do? Sometimes they've been on a glass bottom boat or at a push a catamaran.
@Caravannery6 жыл бұрын
Ha ha exactly, “ah ok so what do you do For holidays” same as me then, except I go all the time - ok so I don’t say the last bit but would love too - thanks for the comment - great to know we’re not alone.

Many good points raised there. I may pinch the theme for a waffle one day :-) As to improving the situation all we can do is show folks how good modern vans are. On a recent trip we were parking on a relatives drive for a couple of nights. They had a very negative view of motorhomes and tried to insist that we would sleep in the house. We said no and would stop in the van. They could not understand until we arrived and showed them around and they agreed that we would be fine :-)
@Caravannery6 жыл бұрын
Exactly and think that would make a great Waffle. Just seemed strange that the market is growing and booming. Yet the perception of the hobby is well out of date as you experienced visiting your friends.

We had a bad experience in Somerset where a driver overtook us while towing and then pulled us over to have a go that we hadn't pulled over to let other vehicles pass, (despite the fact there were no safe places to do so). We promptly called the police as this "gentleman" was very rude and aggressive (we had kids in car) and the police said when towing a caravan you are legally bound to pull over, you can do it as a courtesy when safe to do so.
@Caravannery5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment guys, that’s horrible, and where was the guy going that he was in such a rush as to behave like that. I had someone driving like a maniac around us and he sped into McDonald’s so it goes to show that people don’t think beyond themselves when they are in the car. I like to think we are good in that we pull over when we can. At the end of the day you have to get somewhere too and a good move calling the police - maybe will think next time before behaving so aggressively. Thanks for the comment and in the tricky times - remember the great times x

Hi Oliver, it’s £30 to buy a subscription for the year and it’s what I made this video on. Wasn’t sure if you’ve settled on editing software so thought I would mention. I downloaded it onto my iPhone and edited from there. Not sure if it’s available on the Mac but worth a check if your looking. Hope this helps. If you need any more info just pop us a message/DM etc.

Another thing is that any mainstream TV programmes about caravans are always edited to make caravanners look like idiots and as you said the Jeremy Clarkson effect hasn't helped
@Caravannery6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, I think it’s lazy writing, rely on the old stereotypes because it’s easy for them. Wow this sounds like a really bitter comment on my part. But there is a lot in that - let’s pick on caravans and put our dumbed down slant on it.

I booked a hotel room at a family wedding the other week and was asked if I would let Some one else have our room as they lived in Scotland they know I had a caravan and the venue was happy to let me park there... my other friends offered me some blankets from there hotel room to help keep us warm like I was the poor relative ... I said if you don’t mind that would be great and can they bring them to the caravan... when they came to the van I put the heating on 25 from the phone app so the heat would hit them when they opened the door... they soon too the blankets back and was shocked to see in our van made there room look like a joke compared...

I've always liked the fact that non-caravanners don't like caravanning. People always pull a funny face, but they soon come round and start asking you questions about it. Graham
