That is actually crazy how the color tangibly affected an element of the board, and thank you for documenting this quirk you discovered Scott :)

I wonder if it's more wide spread or isolated to this board! Will have to investigate!

@@Keybored Yea definitely worth a little exploration especially if there are some boards that are heavily impacted. I highly doubt but I guess we dont know for certain

I didn't expect it to be so different! Perhaps KBDfans uses a different process of coating VS others, but it was very interesting to see such a dramatic difference!

Scott! Glad to have you back! Thanks for the in depth info and science on the potential impact of color choices boards. Very good info! Glad the move went well and that you settled in and even happier to have your reviews and vids back! Space ain't the same without you!

My MKIII is en route to my house and should be here within hours. I just came across this video. Glad I ordered anodized case, polycarbonate top-mounted with Oil King switches. I'll post again if any surprises emerge once I receive the unit.

Oh something I know about! I play drums and when you have a drum head (or "skin") mounted on your shell, when it's under tension it makes a note and resonates with itself, and with the other opposing head and even the shell too. For majority of drum heads they come in two flavours: clear and coated, coated of which being a special application process that kind of works like a powder coat. Clear heads have more "attack" and are usually higher pitched, while coated heads have more "warmth" and are usually lower pitched. The nature of the anodized aluminum is to be a more clear, unrestricted vibration and tone, while the E-coating dampens and restricts it. SCINCE! Edit: drum shells, especially snare drums, can be made of different materials, including steel, brass and copper, and depending on the size and thickness create different tones and volumes paired with either clear or coated drum heads. Another thing that keyboards and drums share in common is how much my wallet cries whenever I buy something 😭

So that everyone is aware. The force break mod kit that comes with the board (he mentions at 14:46) is actually more of pre-cut foam pads rather than tape. It works pretty well even though this board didn't really need it, its always a welcome addition.

great video scott! I was wondering if long poles wouldve made the sound difference even more apparent, or to make it livelier, but I totally get what you mean too in this vid, much appreciated :)

As I progress into the hobby, I feel like my preference definitely moving away from a foamy thock to a creamy clack. I hope Scott gets a chance to look into the current trends in the Chinese community now that he's in East Asia... right now, PP plates and PET film for sound shaping are becoming more common. PET film is especially common now.

Scott, nice choice. I have the same color/weight combo and same plate and pcb in my cart before watching this video. (Silver ano+stainless weight+pc plate+andi hot swap pcb). Damn i think i watched too many of your video already😂 Great video and technical explanation is a plus as always! Edit: only way to make it sound move lively is the soldered pcb due to 1.6mm thickness....but why mess with that when you can have the ease and freedom of hotswap 😅
@philipp594 Жыл бұрын
Surface roughness can also affect the fit / seal between top and bottom half, similar how the force-break mod does.
@MyOpinyin Жыл бұрын
I assume it's not that big of an impact, but I know different color plastics weight differently. white gaming mice are always 1-2 grams heavier than black mice, because they use different chemicals(I don't think it's just adding dye).

Regarding the color sound difference, I am wondering if the electrophoresis coating is serving like an additional "layer" between the top and bottom case, essentially serving as sort of a "force breaK" compared to the full anodized aluminium case.
@Keybored Жыл бұрын
You have a pretty good point too! What's interesting is that thr components alone sound so different too!

Thanks for this great vid.. One little favor to ask. your opinion on colors that limit you the least in keycap choice. i don't want E-coating so i'm left with Ano colors. What i really liked was the Mocha but i think that will limit my keycap options.. since i have A keychron in silver i thought Ano Gray is the best option.. Any thoughts are welcome... i watched Andy V Nguyen review where he showed his Gray version and it looked good. He also metioned this keycap limiting problem haha.. don't have room in my apartment for both boards...

Both the MKIII and ODIN 75 have really odd features and the sound resonance no matter what you do isn't all that great. The MKIII .. the LED would have been much better used for a fingerprint reader as you pointed out, and that's what I originally thought it was. The ODIN 75 screen is essentially a vestigial organ and useless. KBDFans is showing their limits in a big way. They do not have electrical engineers working in-house or if they do, they're not competent enough to do the more advanced features.
