top/gasket dual mount plus a hefty weight on a tkl for that price is super value honestly. The only thing holding me back from buying it is just how boring it looks on each side. I really hope they make something like the tiger80 but with a weight cuz the side profile on the alu version was super nice for the price. It just got overshadowed by the tiger lite and the fact that they only offered flex cut pcbs for it.

The kbd8x mkII is so much of a sleeper. I bought it last year at around 230 in the secondhand market and I think it has a lot of interest in every single meetup i have brought it to thus far. It has no reason being that good in terms of feel and sound for the build i went with it. A force break + taped flex cut with PC plate/cherry mx franken tactiles made it slap at least a tier above its original price class, which was surprising considering the original price point was universally regarded as a super overpriced board that is due a relic of its time. For what it's worth it's now in my 3-keyboard rotation with the Alina80 and Cloudline, and it's unabashingly the worst looking board I have by far but the typefeel and sound made it worth keeping and using over any of the other boards I had including a rather lacklustre iron180

Almost all these boards are out of my budget (I'm poor) but man, it's good to see that there are high quality ones that I can actually dream of maybe affording at some point if I got lucky and it wouldn't cost me like $600. Plus, when these type of boards start coming down in prices, we start to see more features and polish in even cheaper options (that seems to be the way it's been trending anyway, I mean, hell, the number of cheap boards you can get that are hot swap and have at least some foam in them these days is unreal at almost any price point). I like this board. Sounds pretty good as it is, and just a couple easy and cheap mods do fix most of the flaws. Hell, to some people there might not be any flaws to begin with since this hobby is extremely subjective and all about preference.

Does the type of weight affect the sound?

As long as the actual mass stays relatively similar it should be consistent.
@jessiequema2494
@jessiequema2494 Жыл бұрын
@@kaeroseon as far as I remember, boards with steel weights are typically higher pitched. Steel is also more dense than brass. Also the reverberation from the case should transfer to the weight. Similar to plates, copper and steel are higher pitched due to its density and stiffness.

@jessiequema2494
@jessiequema2494 Жыл бұрын
Sure, I stand corrected. Good job in proving that I got that wrong lol. Got anything insightful to add? The point there was there is a weight difference ergo might affect the sound. I dont entirely remember Keybored's content but his test prove that there is a difference in sound with plate materials based on weight/mass and material stiffness. Check it out in case you haven't seen it.
@AndyVNguyen
@AndyVNguyen Жыл бұрын
there is the tiniest of holes for sound to travel through (for the jst) to hit the weight. i do not think the weight is making a huge difference here as it is not a through hole weight. when i build with both the ss/copper they sounded generally similar enough. IMO the aesthetic/price of the weights should be considered more heavily than the sound. The last situation where I remembered the weight affecting the sound was going from Alu to Copper in the 910 ME's. Alu is very different from copper so that was a big jump. But SS>Brass>Copper are so similar in density that it hasn't made a discernible difference to my ears.

Do you think the Tofu2.0 or the Envoy is a better first buy for a custom 65% keyboard?
@poppy69420

envoy is superior by a wide margin in pretty much every way possible, that's not to say it doesn't have its own problems. IMHO neo65 is the best 1st keyboard on the market rn
@kaeroseon
@kaeroseon Жыл бұрын
Tofu has more consistent sound and is a little more versatile with more colors and mounting options. Top mount will sound a little deeper but less poppy while the other 2 mount on the tofu will have a softer feel and creamier sound. Envoy is a little bit sleeker looking and has softer typing feel but less options and can look a little boring. It also sounds inconsistent. I prefer the tofu myself but both are good. The neo65 is probably the best value option right now though.
@livelovelucas

@@kaeroseon that’s fair enough, and i’m not saying that they’re terrible or something, but in terms of objective sound factors, there are infinitely more options that will satisfy someone more than a kbd fans board in the same price range, that do not need foams. i’ve found in general that the boards that are actually nice are way too overpriced, and the budget ones that are meant to be be heavy hitters are kinda made to be eye catching, big weight big mass heavy, but heavy doesn’t not correlate to good, like this, or especially the taco75, all that weight just to not sound full, sound dead and super weak, and have other issues too
