I don't have a problem with her videos and I do think that most logical people will go into her challenges and think two things. 1. This is not designed to transform my body overnight, but instead help me stay consistent and move closer to my goals 2. When she mentions abs, glutes, etc. She isnt talking about reducing fat in that area, she is talking about exercises designed to specifically work that muscle group. I think anyone whose done even a little bit of research prior to selecting a fitness routine would be aware of those 2 things and not expect a mircale. If people don't do enough research but have questions she does guide you to her website which doea have her FAQ section. So while I do like your video and opinions, I still can't see where she has done anything wrong here.

I think her (and other creators too) should evaluate why people with existing ED tendencies or on the slippery path to a bigger heath issue turn to her. Those two things are not random and probably there's a connection that someone should study deeply. The youtube space is so big that you get what you're looking for, and peobably if you have a body dismorphia or insecurity, you'll look up what can help you to change that. So, if people is attaching her name to their tricky relationship with their bodies and food, she at least should do an overview of the content she is putting out in the world. As you say, there's other great creators who's no equipment homeworkouts are amazing, like some pilates instructors, madfit or Heather even has some. Unpopular opinion: spot reduction does actually work after all. Science isn't perfect, people do studies and get different results all the time. A recent study shows that it is actually possible. Every fitness influencer holds onto the idea that it's a myth like it is the holy grail or something. They always shoot it at others to criticize them. Other than new studies saying otherwise, it's just common sense. When you grow a muscle in an area and stay consistent for a while the fat in that area will eventually burn more than the fat that is further away from that muscle.

Back in, like, 2015, they used to have workout titles like "get legs like Carry Underwood" or "something something hourglass shape" (in which you had to manipulate small water bottles to...wait for it... grow boobs!). Although, much like Chloe, you could check the description box and read that spot reduction is a myth, at some point they completely stopped doing clickbaits and acknowledged that it was a terrible idea in the first place, even though it helped them with the algorithm and everything for sure! I know that you made a very positive review about their content a few years ago... I wonder if you know that recently (an year and a half, maybe?) they have grown immensely and now they have physiotherapists, certified personal trainers, a psychologist and other highly specialized professionals actively working with them? i think chloe is totally within her rights to say that people can have a really disingenuous way of delivering constructive criticism (tiktok is especially bad for this because of its short form content -content that is quippy and fits into a recognizable meme format will necessarily perform better than a 5 part, sit down mini essay), it's also, like, blatantly misrepresenting why the creator captioned their video the way that they did. chloe pointedly cuts off the second half of the sentence which references her use of clickbait time frames (abs in 2 weeks, hourglass in 5 weeks, etc.) it's not a video that i'd make personally specifically because i would be worried about it getting back to the original creator, but the caveat was meant to distinguish between chloe ting as a person and the content she was making - they were clarifying that they don't hate hate chloe but have (valid) criticisms of the content. marketing your content using potentially harmful means is the harder to defend premise in the statement though so 🤷🏻 i also don't want to dictate how personally someone should take comments made about them - on the internet, no less - but it does feel equally disingenuous to frame all of the criticism she receives as if it's "hating" or bullying when it is almost all explicitly about choices she is actively making. to pretend that her content just like, comes into being looking the way that it does without any input from her on substance, title or thumbnail feels a bit childish to me. simultaneously playing the "people underestimate my expertise because of their own biases" card and the "i'm just trying my best 🥺" card just doesn't sit right with me. either you need to be held to a higher standard than most because you are presenting yourself as a guide for people to follow or you shouldn't be representing yourself as an authority on the subject, but you really can't pick both.

And she’s definitely not the only one. I also don’t think she’s popular because she makes valuable, quality content. I think she makes content that preys on and feeds into people’s insecurities but it hides behind a positive “encouraging” veneer so it can get a pass for “at least getting people moving!” But it’s doing that through feeding insecurities as opposed to all the other creators that focus on less problematic things. I get the “meet people where they are” argument -and agree with it - but I see no evidence of her combatting that heavily problematic things she’s leading with or trying to help people past the self-harmful thinking she’s meeting them at, if you get me?

I really am at the place now where I believe you should have to present any platform with your certifications and qualifications as well as a background check before posting health (mental or physical) content. I know it's a little extreme, but then I believe this type of thing will be minimized.. we see where we are without that type of regulation. The Eugenia Cooneys, Amberlynn Reids, and Chloe Tings of the this platform need to be banned. I actually don't hate Chloe, I see so much potential in her and I like that all her content is free to access (I also like her spunky attitude, but I wish she'd use it in a positive way instead of just deflecting) I just think she needs to (1) take accountability, as you said very beautifully, (2) go get an actual real, respectable degree in her craft, (3) make the appropriate changes. This is a very nuanced discussion for me because I actually had my ED fueled when I was younger by Blogilates (she did not cause it, she just made content that attracted my vulnerable and young self who already had disordered thoughts and fueled the fire, much as Chloe is doing these days for the younger generation, so I understand), but finding Chloe Ting actually started the catalyst towards me not wanting to be malnourished and actually being able to do HIIT/light resistance instead of being so weak the only exercise I could do was mainly laying on the floor and lifting my leg and crunching my neck, thus helping me eat more to sustain such movement, which probably ended up saving my life indirectly as a result. One could view it as maybe going from one problematic creator to another, and I acknowledge that, but I do thank Chloe in a way for making content that changed my mindset and eventually led to me recovering from an ED with the help of a healthcare team. And I know my experience is not universal -- Chloe is a lot of people's Blogilates, which is very unfortunate. As I've recovered and become slightly more educated, I can see how Chloe really does symbolize a lot that's wrong with this platform and the health/fitness space in general and I really do feel like it's such a shame. Again, I really think she has tons of potential, but unfortunately here we are. Well said as always, Justina.

I - like many others - did Chloe’s workouts over lockdown. She popped back up in my feed over the Christmas holiday and I suddenly noticed how she seems to be quite concerned with physical appearance as opposed to health and strength. There are still a few of her videos that I’ll probably do on active recovery days because I enjoyed them and haven’t done them in years, but I was surprised how much I completely missed the physical appearance thing the first time around. And i also dont understand the whole EDs thing so focused on her bc "she focuses so much in her body instead of in being healthy". Have you seen the plant-based/vegan influencers? Does Chloe provide any prescriptive eating plans for people that are basically so calorically restrictive that they are indirectly encouraging an eating disorder? Because everything I've seen from her has been workout content, and yeah, you can't spot reduce fat, but also "here's an ab routine" is nowhere in the ballpark of "you shouldn't eat food," and I understand why she feels that it's unfair to blame her for that.

From what I remember seeing (from other channels) she used to put out videos saying "I'm doing this diet and workout to achieve this goal for me, so you don't have to try". Usually these workouts and diet plans were quite restrictive. So people accused her to always walking on the edge of "I'm having this ED tending behaviour, so you don't have too" that causes so many viewers to actually try it as well.

My opinion on all of this is as someone who did Chloe workouts is that yes Chloe never promoted ed however the reality is that yes the fact that she is on « society standards » of women bodies or that her thumbnails were very clickbait did give her a boost snd that also the time where she picked was a time where a lot of people were into a really bad mental health phase so she could’ve done better or at least start inserting TW on her content or recipes

Yes to not blaming others for your ED but they didn't do that. It's just a fact that a LOT of people used her workouts when they had an ED, me included. It's something that sadly a lot of people can relate to and while she didn't cause eating disorders, her titles and marketing definitely didn't help anyone either. Edit: not to mention her response screams insecurity and defensiveness so yeah not a good look for her
@saharaofthedeep5 күн бұрын
Yeah I think you're just not understanding what she's saying. She never specifically says "spot reduction doesn't work" she says in several different workouts that if you want to obtain visible abs, your body fat is a key player in that and that the workouts are there to build your ab muscles but if there is too much fat to see them, there's too much fat to see them. Prettymuch every time she puts out new ab related programs she explains this. She also states that weight loss is achieved through a combination of exercising and healthy diet and then tells people to visit her website for recipes. She doesn't need to specifically debunk the myth of spot reduction because she never at any point in any video states that you can achieve abs through spot reduction. It's a completely irrelevant complaint and yes she does actually explain how to actually achieve abs. On her website there are descriptions that explain how they work your muscles, and assist with weight loss. She also says in several of her workouts such as the hip dip workout that doing the video isn't going to necessarily change your body shape and that there's nothing wrong with hip dips, it's just a program designed to tone the muscles that would reduce the appearance of hip dips. Her ab videos have disclaimers like this too ever since people started imagining that her videos will cause weight loss in their belly.
@JustinaErcole5 күн бұрын
I also did a video where I looked at her disclaimers, and there is nothing there (at least when I filmed the video) that explains any of this. Maybe she added this information after the fact. But regardless, her marketing is predatory and misleading. The fact that she takes zero accountability is wild.

@Saidhi875 ай бұрын
It should not be given like a “one size fits all” recipe, but thanks to her, I have a toned body. I use my body weight or minimal weight/resistance bands. So it’s possible-but not for everyone, of course. Plus, Chloe does have alternatives and mentions them in her videos, etc. You can always add weights and resistance, fasten the tempo, do it the hard way, etc. The main thing is your looks and how toned you will appear will always be influenced by your fat percentage and how/where you store the fat the most. Some people could do everything right but never have a toned, flat belly or thighs. It´s not their fault, not the fault of their trainers - it´s just like their body works naturally to keep itself healthy.
