This was very useful. Just patching a hole I broke through a basement floor to run some waterlines. 3/4" down gravel will contain enough sand to bond a concrete sufficient for my purpose. All the best with your channel

I was under the impression that sand was important also because it is hydrologicallly active in concrete. If this is not true, do you think it would be feasible to replace sand with a powdered metal like aluminum or bismuth? I ask because I am interested in making high density highly thermally conductive concrete.

I needed to elevate my front porch to prevent pudding. It was about 1/8 in below surface in two spots. I used portland and all purpose sand. The sand was so gritty I couldn't get it to smooth out. I wonder if portland alond would help and then brush it for texture

I make and sell concrete mushrooms out of used pot noodle pots and a breakfast cereal bowl. And sell them for £15 each and they sell like hot cakes.
