Thinking about all the people who worked on those music videos…..the director, the makeup artists and stylists, the people who storyboarded it and designed the sets and figured out the lighting, who edited the video and created this beautiful work of art….only for it to be deleted a few years later….all that vision and hard work, just gone. Maybe not completely, maybe still saved elsewhere, but no longer recognized officially as being worthy of existing. It makes me so sad.

honestly when i heard all of doves previous music was deleted, and then you have boyfriend which is a hit; it reminded me of olivia rodrigo. when olivia dropped drivers licence it was her first original single (if im not mistaken) aside from hsmsts. i feel like dove or her label were trying to get that look for dove, former disney star drops a song, becomes a massive hit, then they start releasing music from there. i could be reaching but it just feels like it would give her more attention for boyfriend and future songs for people that dont know dove. it pretty much just gives her a better image "former disney star's music debut" rather than keeping that decade worth of old songs that didnt do as well.

Also I would like to mention that despite the “good” removing her work could be, it’s so unnatural for anyone in the music industry. Artists change and develop all the time. That’s what musical “eras” are for yaknow? For example, Folklore by Taylor Swift was MUCH more popular than Lover. Yet, you do not see Taylor removing that whole album from her discography just because she found new success with a different sound. What Dove is doing is just so strange. And it IS her work, her music, but she chose to share it with the world. Even if she doesn’t relate to certain songs anymore because of her growth, that does not mean her fans did too. I resonated with Out of Touch and Bloodshot and now I can’t connect to them anymore because they’ve been wiped from existence

I think it's a bad move all around especially because now her profile is 99% disney music. Having a profil full of original music looks way better for an artist. Plus it cut down her streams and makes her way more likely to go the one hit wonder way. To really become a fan of an artist you usually need more then one song. People discover a song they like, they look up the artist listen to a couple more songs and then can get hooked and become a bigger fan way faster because they have more then one song! Nothing is more disapointing then discovering a new artist just to see that they only have the one song. Also so many people know you already had released music that you can't really fake the debut single being a super hit thing. And it's mean to the fans. I hate when people try to erase their past just cause they are in a different period. That's not how this life works! Once you release a song you might be the one making money from it but it belongs to your fans.

@ruby77062 жыл бұрын
@@freydobaggins6252 from a PR standpoint, having Dove even slightly imply that it was her label company that removed her songs would send fans to attack the label which might hinder how they work for her etc. But having Dove come out and pretend that it's her choice, shows that 1) the label she is working in grants her that INSANE amount of autonomy over her music (which is rare from the likes of what happened to Taylor Swift, Ke$HA, or just anyone who don't have control over their music) 2) while it might look "bad" for Dove to lie about it, it doesn't hurt her public perception on a bigger scale. If Dove came out and said it was her label, this could have been turned into a fans vs label really quickly and escalate faster than her coming out and saying it was a choice she made.

I don't understand why you'd want to delete all your work, just because it doesn't match your current style or the current tone of your life. One of my favorite things about music is being able to follow artists through different experimental eras. Imagine if Taylor deleted everything up to Evermore... like are you kidding me I'd be so sad. For one, the tiktok hype is not going to last forever, what if the people who like boyfriend want to see her other work and find out she deleted it? It makes her look very inauthentic and inauthenticity kills an artists very quickly. Your point about what happens in 4 years is so correct, because what does happen? As of right now, I know Dove is not in the healthiest place, essentially looking at her mental health. I think the biggest thing she struggles with is identity. She’s never satisfied with herself, regarding the heavy amount of alterations she made on her body. Plastic surgery is not something I’m looking down upon, but I’ve recently noticed how much she has changed in the last years and can tell how body dysmorphia influenced her. I saw a comment where someone politely mentioned the alterations Dove had, and Dove later blocked that user. Dove has some issues revolving around with who she is and deleting her past self from her discography may be her only solution. I also wanted to clarify that Dove has control over her body and can do whatever she pleases. I’m not bashing on this influencer at all. My concern follows through her heavy alterations and her inability to prove to herself that she doesn’t need all the alterations. It’s all a degrading mess, and I wish there were some way that allows her to feel more comfortable in her skin.

No one deserves that validation, not you, not me and not anyone else. What’s wrong with people on the internet?
@gilbertgollyweed71912 жыл бұрын
@@angiebaebii Let me clarify: More specifically, a little girl said on Dove’s post, “You look so beautiful! I wish I was as beautiful as you.” This is where someone politely replies to the little girl saying, “Yes, Dove is a beautiful woman, but she is not 100% natural.” The replier wanted to let the little girl know this, so she would not form insecurities over features that can be easily obtained. I agree, comments become abrasive when we repeatedly mention her alterations. She denies this, however, as she continues to encourage self love and natural beauty.
@clubjema2 жыл бұрын
Saying Dove has a problem with identity is such an accurate and precise way to put it!! She has altered her body (chest implants), is addicted to facial plastic surgery, and never posts pictures unless they have been heavily photoshopped. And she really has gone through so many reinventions - which is totally fair! That's what growing up is all about. But it's definitely clear she isn't secure with herself, which is so sad since she's a talented actress and incredible singer. I can't imagine how hard it must have been growing up under the Disney Channel microscope. Still, she needs to stop preaching natural beauty and authenticity- unless she can be honest herself. It's damaging to young fans.

The problem with “tik tok” hits is that most of the time they are based on trends, as boyfriend being a transition trend it only labels the song as a tik tok song, it’s a trend meaning it will go away after a span of a few months. The difference from drivers license is that it didn’t blow up from a trend, hence the “drama” between Olivia and Sabrina pushed the song’s success, the song wasn’t related to a trend in specific meaning that the song could be used in many different videos on tik tok and outside of tik tok giving it a much universal use for the song. The lyricism of DL also gave interest to Olivia as a person, peaking people’s interest in her which is the main base to being a main pop girly, having people interested in you as a person. Dove deleting her past music closes a window that is very much needed for success in the industry right now. Getting to know dove from her more personal songs as she mentioned in all the interviews or concerts gives her much more depth and realism to her as an artist but now it’s gone so..
@space90992 жыл бұрын
this is exactly what i’ve been thinking too. i think if dove were to release another song, there’s no guarantee that is will blow up the way Boyfriend did. because people are mainly interested in the song, not necessarily in the artist. with drivers license, olivia showed a vulnerable side which also had a storyline surrounding it. with boyfriend, there’s no vulnerability or storyline behind it. and boyfriend did not blow up to the extent that she had established/secured a place in the music industry. if Boyfriend blew up like drivers license did, then maybe she would be in more of a place to take her other songs off of streaming platforms. but in any scenario, i still don’t see why taking down your whole discography is a good idea.

people keep saying that fans should be supportive of her decision to delete her past work, but in my opinion her explanation makes zero sense and fans have every right to be upset about it. like what, their fave deletes all her music and you expect fans not to be upset about it? it makes me think the people saying we should support her decision were never real fans in the first place. no real fan would be totally okay with their fave deleting all their music. i especially feel bad for people who had emotional connections with her old songs and now they’re not available anymore. because of this, i don’t think i’ll ever get over it honestly. like yeah, i may continue supporting her, but it will never be the same (also by her saying that she has found her sound, kind of puts her in a box. she should not feel like she needs to stick to one sound only, because then all her music will sound the same. from what i know, her deleted songs all had different sounds. but now all her upcoming music will all start to sound the same as Boyfriend)

Two things right off the bat that may be preventing an otherwise, I think, deservedly meteoric rise on the charts: --The new Harry Styles single "As It Was," which is great, BTW, which entered this singles chart at number one. --The new Camila Cabello/Ed Sheeran duet, "Bam Bam," which is also getting increased airplay rotation due to very positive audience reactions. It may be a more difficult climb for this record, I still think that overall, "BF" is a great song that, admittedly, does sound different than any other of the pop stuff playing on the radio right now. I think that's a large part of the song's appeal, and I also think that it will catch on big time. That said, I stand by my prediction. It will peak, at least, as high as number eight. And maybe, her backcatalogue will return online, which was the main topic anyway.

As a big fan of her, this recent behavior and how her online existence is focused on that one song lately is just odd. As someone who has deleted a bunch of YT videos that lasted for five years, deviant-art account and fanfictions just because it didn’t resonate with me anymore at the time of eraser, that is absolutely *the worst* thing you could ever possibly do. All those years of hard work (passion project or not) and people that genuinely gravitated towards the work, it will eventually come back and will be a constant reminder of losing something that did matter to that past version of yourself. I’m not a Dove fan, but. I really liked her as an entertainer during her Disney days and a little while afterwards, but I haven’t kept track of most things with her recently. I’m sorry she’s removed those works; that’s genuinely such a big bummer.

it's odd. i thought boyfriend fit in with the rest of her releases. there were always lgbt+ themes, she sounded like she was so excited to release and express herself. obviously, being new to the solo artist world, she'll have to find her sound. but that's what makes it so fun. and it's why we've been eagerly awaiting an album, because we've seen her play around with singles. this switch up...... either, her label is forcing this on her. prioritising money. or she just feels like she needs the success to be at the forefront and doesn't believe in her talent. she deleted them before they could gain new attention, it isn't like she was heavily criticised. it pisses me off because of all the fans who'll miss out, all the people who worked on everything will go without, we won't get to see how they may have grown. more concerning, what decisions will be made as she goes forward? i don't know how this'll impact her and her fandom. many, many, almost all artists have had moments where their releases maybe weren't what they were completely into. but they don't just try to pretend that it never happened. i really hope that this doesn't last. they've been removed/deleted but i doubt that they're not saved somewhere. im just worried that she'll obsess over this idea of "coming into herself". i understood distancing herself from disney or her old stuff with her allegedly abusive ex, but this?????? edit: just realised that i basically said exactly what you did, twinsies or whatever lmao 😭 edit 2: MAX. this is how it's supposed to be done. he released his debut album in 2016, he has said since that it wasn't entirely what he wanted and sounds like his past label was a pain. did he delete it? no. he created something that he was truly proud of and did a subtle rebrand. why couldn't she have done that? you can enjoy who you were and what you did and feel like it isn't completely you and move on AND leave the past alone. bye im so sad that her stuff is gone 💔

You nailed it! The music isn’t that different and frankly Boyfriend is musically really boring. It desperately needs a bridge or another verse. It also feels a little like she wants to distance herself from her fans cause she wants cooler more mature fan base. Which is sorta BS. Like Ariana Grande isn’t afraid to get her victorious cast members up on stage and sing a song from the show. Dove now comes across “too cool” to do that.

About what you said about the song needing something more, I always thought the song would be enhanced by a huge screaming rock guitar solo at the end as a coda that goes on for an extra minute and THEN ends cold. If her music was taken down to make it seem like Boyfriend was her debut, that’s not a great move because she’s already pretty famous so it’s not something that can slide under the radar to seem like it’s really her first song that became a hit. I totally agree with your point of 'boyfriend' being very much alike with her previous songs. Maybe Dove doesn't see it herself, still there're different perspectives and etc, but the whole decision to erase all of the past works still seems stupid to me. Imagine if each artist did that? Imagine if a painter deletes all of their art works, just because they think they don't like them anymore. Or directors would just delete their old films from the existance. Writers would burn their old books, because their writing improved and etc. That's just weird and also smells like a disrespect for fans, who have been with you for a very long time and have been supporting you all the way through.

I love you so much for talking about this. This whole situation is really annoying. I haven't really been a fan of hers as a person for like almost a year but I still liked her music. Honestly speaking, it's horrible business to delete old songs because no matter how successful Boyfriend is people are still gonna find out about the other songs and it makes her look like a pretentious jerk. What serious artist, or label, would delete any previous works? If it really only was for the 15 second fame of Boyfriend, it's laughable. Just based on my *almost nonexistent* knowledge on the music industry, I think artists have very little control over their music when they sign onto a label. And of course if this IS all her label’s doing, it wouldn’t make them look good if she publicly said her label deleted her discography. I've been a fan of Dove's music for years. I was a fan of The Girl & The Dreamcatcher and I remember listening to Bloodshot and Waste for the first time and being blown away by that EP and looking forward to her solo stuff. We Belong and LazyBaby were some of my most played songs last year. I was just as much in shock as you are to find this out and it really doesn't make sense. I appreciate you taking the time gathering the information and thoughtfully breaking it down. Like you said, it is very confusing, and feels like a slap in the face to the fans - particularly because the explanation given seems so vague and lacks the true understanding of how her fans feel. My best guess is that it was her label's idea to ride the success of Boyfriend and focus on new work and erase the past. And she maybe was convinced enough that it was the right thing to do moving forward. But like you pointed out, certain songs I have a hard time buying into that she doesn't relate to anymore when they very much seemed near and dear to her heart, and the songs were written with such depth. I do like this song a lot, but if I knew having it would mean getting rid of her whole catalog, I wouldn't have wanted it.

i think with dove she’s trying to find her sound that she’ll have for the rest of her career. yes boyfriend did well but like you said, it was one song that went viral on tik tok and honestly the song isn’t trending as much anymore. i personally feel like you can’t have one sound for the rest of your career because it doesn’t show growth. artist such as Ariana Grande is a good example because you can see how growth in her music from Yours Truly to her newest album Positions and it’s good to hear that maturity. i don’t think she’s making a smart decision with this and someone else said that all the hard work and all the people that were involved with her previous projects are now gone and honestly that’s really shocking considering how much she was exited to work with that makeup artist as well as everyone else. an artist who did a similar thing is Normani. She’s not consistent with her music and releases it in huge gaps. at this point the hype is dying down even though i’ll still listen. atleast with normani she’s admitted that she wasn’t happy with her previous songs such as motivation because it felt like it wasn’t her. it’s still on her discography which is nice but artists will try to find one sound for the rest of their career which is overall why they’re not as successful Saying this, i do wish dove the best and her new music still slaps

Dove lowkey started to give me the ick around descendants 3. Couldn’t tell you why tbh just the vibes changed. Also didn’t like boyfriend as a song not my style but I liked some of her old songs. So now I have no reason to listen to her (aside from Disney).

I also don't vibe with Boyfriend. I think the beat is wack and it's hard to groove to. LazyBaby went HARD. It's a shame it's gone. I also get what you mean about her around Descendants 3. It might be the extra plastic surgery and botox she got during then. She started seeming really fake.

People need to get into the habit of having bad feelings they can’t explain about someone and then not posting it. Okay so you don’t have a reason of why you don’t like about dove? Cool, there’s nothing they can do about it and it gives no takeaway on dove whatsoever. Some people give off red flags or bad impressions and you can judge them however. But who else would need to hear about how The Vibes changed

@@dotcom3015 you can still simply say you don’t like something tho?? Stating it even having a reason for disliking something or someone is perfectly fine. If you can say what you want online then so can others even if you don’t think it adds anything. This is a YT comments section, not a debate session or a trial. Everything you say doesn’t have to be backed up with reasoning, proof, filler or have prolific meaning. It literally doesn’t matter. You could literally comment under this video that you hate carrots. Does that add anything important to the convo? No, not to me personally. But I’m not gonna get butthurt over it lol bc it doesn’t affect me at all.

@@sleepytoons2155 they didn’t say that. They said she gives them the ick and has bad vibes. That implies there’s fault with dove. Her the person, not her music, not her style, why would you post about a person you don’t like just because

I'm really glad you made a video about this because I saw you tweeting & definitely wanted to know more. I haven't been following Dove but as someone who will consume the entire backlog of any artist I like, this is disappointing. As fans, it's incredible to see how artists evolve & a lot of time a song others might see as "not as good" is someone else's favorite. Deleting them is a disservice to her progress as an artist & a bigger disservice to her fans. I'm sorry this happened. Also not to be all "things were better back in the days" but this is one of those times when I do feel like streaming fails people. I've been working on transferring my entire iTunes library to Spotify & feeling like my music could be at the mercy of someone else's will.....not reassuring

Honestly it doesn’t feel fair, once an artist releases something into the world, part of it becomes ours, not theirs. It becomes free for interpretation, and for our own validation, comfort, and just general enjoyment. By completely ripping everything from our hands (the fans) it really violates an unspoken agreement. When it becomes public, it’s no longer just yours to take from us, dove

I got no hate toward Dove Cameron, but she used to be super cool and chill, and now a lot of what she does just gives me the ick. Deleting all those songs just seems like she’s trying to act like a new artist, it also seems like she’s just trying to make big trendy statements instead of just loving her music

Out of touch was my favorite song from her , also I LOVE her vibe , she posts some writing and interesting images on her Instagram and I LOVED how her mind works when it comes to art after seeing those but I think boyfriend doesn’t deliver that , it sounds like a generic “dark academia “ tiktok song which worries me cuz I don’t want this to be her official classic sound , there’s a certain dark , messy but also fragile and poetic vision to her art and the art images and writings she posts on her social media , I want that to reflect her music SO BAD cuz it can be an incredible brand for her

@terriblerappers91422 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it is about numbers. Maybe her record label wanted her first song to be a massive hit, so they deleted the rest. Or maybe she wanted that. Those songs weren't getting her much money and weren't getting a lot of traction, so she probably wanted to remove those from her image. She might love those songs still, but it seems she wants to go more the alt pop route (at least from what she has teased/released), and these songs don't quite fit that image. I personally like this song more than the others (although I do like bloodshot a lot) but I love alternative music. I wouldn't classify her as alternative, but I would say this song, especially in comparison to her old music, is a step in that direction. I don't think she should've deleted them, and it sucks for her fans. Hopefully someday she will rerelease them so people can see her progression

I love dove but she is a very insecure women. I think she personally loves every single she’s put out, but that she’s insecure about the fact that boyfriend skyrocketed over them. I’m sure that she’s going to regret it in the future. I think boyfriend might be her favorite song because it’s big and was fun for her, but I think her other songs are more personally and emotionally her favorites.

I’m not a dove Cameron fan -in fact, im probably more on the opposing side-but I did watch/listen to her songs during her time on Disney and enjoyed it. My only exposure to this situation has been through tik tok and interviews of her on KZbin, but it has also made me increasingly more angry that she has thrown away basically her entire past. I understand a lot of Disney stars want to forget about their time on Disney, which is completely valid bc everyone grows over time, but ever since dove released boyfriend, it exploded on tik tok, and she came out publicly, she has made this song and her queerness her entire personality. She acts like there was never a time when she dated/was attracted to men, which maybe she doesn’t feel straight anymore, but there’s no denying that she wasn’t dating nor engaged to men before?? I’m all for people embracing who they are, but I think she’s lying when she says things like “the old me wasn’t the real me; it was someone I was pretending to be fore others.” ??? That’s bullshit and doesn't even make sense??? I know the industry often monitors/limits artistry, but she was such a small artist and was writing lots of personal songs from my understanding, so I don’t see how all of those could no longer be considered any kind of reflection of her feelings/life during that time period in her life.

okay i have a lot to say yall! i used to be a big dove cameron stan from 2013 to maybe 2019 and loved everything she did. BUT within the past few years something about her just gives me the ick. i think it’s because she preaches so much but then doesn’t follow up on it. fir example, ill never forget when she posted that selfie of her crying during the blm protests and proceeded to make it all about her and how she felt. and then when she posts about self acceptance and whatever but continues to HEAVILY photoshop everything on her ig. yes i do feel so much for her because i too am insecure and very mentally ill and have an ED but i feel like its so toxic to claim you never did anything to ur body or face but its so obvious youve gotten so much plastic surgery and whatever. i do have a lot of empathy for chloe because shes lost her dad and her best friend and was in an abusive relationship and i think shes incredibly strong, but there are a lot of choices shes made that i cannot agree with. i do wish her all the healing in the world however. also side note - so mad she removed her music because bloodshot was one of my favorite songs.

Dude I literally had a panic attack before listening to Bloodshot/Waste because I was going to be DEVASTATED if her music was bad, I was that obsessed with her. And then both songs were PERFECT and I listened to them on repeat until she released more. Now I’m a whole other kind of devastated. What the heck. Thank you for the video. Sending hugs. 🌸

it's sad because it's like she didn't care if her fans resonated with her old songs and she didn't care if they got us through whatever we were going through at the time. I don't want to put full blame on her bc we don't know what her label is making her do but I feel like she just didn't care about all her fans since pre-boyfriend when deleting her old songs :(

I feel like once art has been released, it's no longer just for the artist and it kinda belongs to the people? This has to be label tampering, because I kinda find it hard to believe that Dove Cameron hates all of the songs that she obviously cared so much about. Sabrina Carpenter did a live stream after "emails I can't send" was released and she talked about how excited she was that the album was no longer hers and that it was now for everyone. Because that's how it works. Art is for the artist but it's also for the world

I was actually making a playlist on my phone when I realized her songs were gone. I had Bloodshot and Waste, and I was looking to add them to my latest mix, but all the Dove Cameron songs I had all of a sudden were just Boyfriend. When I went to look for them on Apple Music, everything was gone which made me really sad because I really enjoyed those two songs. I was wanting to put songs I didn’t listen to very much on this playlist because I have so much music that I take a lot of what I have for granted, so I’m upset that I missed my chance to hear those two songs again because like I said earlier, even tho I didn’t listen to those two songs all the time, I remembered loving them the times I did play them. Anyway, I think good points were made in this video and I too found it very upsetting that her previous songs are all gone :(

I’ve been supporting dove ever since her music debut. Her songs have a special place in my heart. it was so unnecessary for her to do that. A part of me says that her label forced her to delete them, they literally control dove. When she posted a snippet of her upcoming ep (bf was apart of it), she said that she really wants to release it but her label doesn’t think its “material enough”. But, when it blew up they let her release it?? This is so CONFUSING. But yeah, like you said, when her songs suddenly got removed it felt like a slap in the face 😭 i hope her and her label rethink their choices and bring them back lol :) btw if anyone has any of doves old music videos in high quality pls tell me asap

boyfriend doesn’t even feel that different from her other songs. the message of the song itself yes, i appreciate the lyrics but sonically it’s not a standout for me. it also doesn’t feel like a full fledged song. you can tell they quickly finished it to get it out while the hype was still there. i understand it’s important to her, but is it that important to act like her other songs don’t exist?
