The themes are great. And the build up in this episode is key to how nerve wracking the eventual confrontation with Lalo is. To me, saying that this is episode is filler it's like saying that seasoning isn't essential. Technically correct, but damn, why wouldn't you want to add flavor to your steak?
@JWalters3882 жыл бұрын
Same goes for the "Fly" episode in Breaking Bad. Without that episode, then we're probably missed how Walt/Jesse actually care for each other in their own weird way, Walt having repressive regret and wanting to fix something that's already broken. Finally, for me anyway, when Walt telling Jesse he let Jane die, actually felt more impactful considering that before, Walt felt responsible and tell Jesse he was sorry for Jane during the climax scene of "Fly".

Just a couple of more Easter Eggs from the cold open; The man sitting at the table while the Rymans enter their house is Gus Fring's body double that you see in the tunnel. He's working on a sudoko puzzle in the scene. The picture of the Rymans on the refrigerator is an actual picture of us after a bike ride in Santa Monica from years earlier. When you see Gus cross paths of us after entering our basement, the puzzle that we were working on was specifically chosen by showrunner and co-creator Vince Gilligan as was the position of the machine gun on the table when we walk into the house. They had us try out four or five bikes before deciding on the ones that we used which they flew in from Los Angeles the day before we filmed.

The "was" in Mike's "I was" to Kim seems to echo her "was" later in the season when, after Jesse asks her if Saul is a good lawyer, she responds with , "When I knew him, he was". That second "was" even punctuates her statement and ends the scene like it does here with Mike. Also both scenes feature significant characters meeting for the first time.

Alright, finally came around watching this Breakdown (talk about the audience mirroring the creators :D). Always surprised how much symbolism and meaning went right over my head even after watching each episode intently to not miss anything, you elevate the show to a whole new level with these and should be on the DVD extras in my opinion. One thing I noticed in the Kim/Mike scene is that, additionally to the Chicken looming over Mike, you can also see the typical Fast Food baskets on the right side of the counter, fully orbitting Mike with Pollos Hermanos symbolism in the 3 dimensional space you so beautifully explored earlier. Thanks again for this great video and dont feel obligated to rush these out, they are done when they are done :)

Cool extra thing I noticed in the scene with Jimmy and Bill: Jimmy's outfit consists of a blue shirt and blazer, with a red tie and handkerchief in his breast pocket. He wears blue, the colour of justice and the law, but the red, criminal side of his life is now on display for everyone to see. Additionally, the red is present in very specific places on his body: to the people of the court Jimmy has violent, criminal red at his core (the tie) and in his heart (the handkerchief).

I love this so much. When in English class, i always loved literary analysis. While others (and me at the beginning as well) asked 'do you really think the author was thinking this and not just describing the scene' eventually it became clear to me how much is done for a reason. This series takes me back to that and also combines deep thoughtful analysis with one of my favourite shows of all time. So many other channels always analyse the show but point out the obvious stuff. You really go above and beyond to analyse motifs, stylistic choices, everything to paint wonderfully vivid pictures. Absolutely fantastic work, an absolute treat to watch. If you might, my all time favourite show is Mr Robot and especially season 3 and 4 are ripe with thoughtful direction. Would kill to have a series like that for that show.
