There’s a story that explains it. One day, Rohini, mother of Lord Balarama, was sharing Lord Krishna’s life stories from Vrindavana with the queens of Dwaraka. This story was extremely confidential, so Subhadra, Lord Krishna’s sister, was asked to guard the door to keep anyone from coming in.
As the story unfolded, Lord Krishna and Balarama stood on either side of Subhadra at the door and listened. The story moved them deeply, and this emotional feeling started showing on their bodies. Their eyes grew wide, their heads shrank into their bodies, and their limbs pulled inward. Seeing these changes in Krishna and Balarama, Subhadra also started feeling the same emotions, and her body mirrored theirs. So, this is how Lord Jagannath, Balarama, and Subhadra in Puri’s Jagannath Temple came to have their unique forms. #odisha

Actually the temple is closed only for 2 hours.. And there is a strong sense of belief tht lord Jagannath meets demigods in these 2 hours... JAI JAGANNATH ❤❤

Me an Odia: Matlab kuchh bhi? Please don't spread such misinformation about our Jagannatha. He was MADE this way out of wood. King & queen & all were forbidden from seeing what roopa was being crafted. But one day queen got worried as the sound of wood carving stopped. She broke her promise and peeked inside. So, he stopped at how much ever was done. So, he has half hands. No legs. Jagannatha has large eyes as he's Jagat nath, he needs to see everything, his devotees, their pain, suffering. He's always able to see us. He's there for us. Chaka dola is literally EYES like Konark chakra (chakaa = wheel). ଜୟ ଜଗନ୍ନାଥ
