+300m high-rises should ideally house hotels, office buildings. supertall residential buildings are no fun to be honest. In better parts of the world like in singapore, china, gulf countries...real estate companies have government equities too to ensure no one is venturing into risky projects. State governments as well as central government can start soveriegn funds to invest in every possible sector to boost formal economy and most importantly create income tax generating i.e. dignified formal jobs.

A huge chunk of international passenger traffic travelling from Mumbai airport originate outside of Mumbai. Much of it comes from nearby cities say Pune or Surat which either doesn't have international airport or has very limited international flights. The central government should focus on building capacity there and facilitate more international flight permits when commercially viable instead of artificially centralizing demand at Mumbai and then squabbling over airport reaching its peak capacity. This approach will not only alleviate traffic at Mumbai airport but will also go a long way in building equitable and competitive aviation market in the country. Cities in close proximity of Mumbai airport looses a lot of its air traffic to Mumbai due to its lack of airport investments and government's aloof attitude towards granting them international flights permissions.

Mumbai airport has already lost the aviation game as many airlines are shifting their main hub to Delhi or Bengaluru airports. The once India's busiest airport has dropped to 2nd position in 2010 and will drop down to 3rd position by 2024 probably. The more the delay in the operation of Navi Mumbai airport, the more Mumbai air traffic stagnates. Even Hyderabad airport has picked up pace and is competing with Bengaluru airport.

In my opinion, you are right, but the thing is, Mumbai is expanding into the mountainous mainland. You can already start to notice with the new developments connecting south Mumbai to Panvel in 20 minutes, even Navi Mumbai is starting to merge into greater Mumbai. They are almost considered the same city. For a few years, other cities will pick up, until NMIA is built. Then, Mumbai will have two extremely large airports, and will have no problem becoming India's largest and most prosperous city. Hopefully, it does this sustainably and sensibly.

Mumbai CSIA is quite cramped inspite of upgrading New terminal. Airport is just located inside city so it is not possible to expand the area. Another problem is the runway intersection. It is big risk to operate both intersection runways in busy schedule . The secondary runway 14 -34 is quite shorter where Big heavy aircraft need to apply hard brake and proper calculation for thrust during takeoff. Now, location is already planned in Navi Mumbai so definitely the terminal building can be much bigger than CSIA . But In my opinion New airport should have 3 parallel runways. I even think that runway length can be extended up to 4000 meter or 4 Km. The Advantage of 3 runways is that If any problem arise in one runway during flights then they can use another runway as optional or in extreme busy schedule third runway can also use because two runways will be required for take off and Landing separately. But about future of CSIA, It can be only operated in Domestic flights including Diplomatic flights.

As usual MH government is very late in building new airport due to it's incompentancy. Same story is of Pune which don't have its own airport. Pune city is operating in a part of Indian Airforce airport. Now airforce closed it for maintenance for 15 days, so all flights and business is doomed for 15 days in Pune. They are planning a civilian airport for pune since last 3 decades. Also to keep in the mind that centre is also not keen resolution of these issues as they are developing other states like Gujrat and UP at the cost of MH.

I can't blame the bureacrats and administrative offices on this when we have half of the ministers who are just incompetent with lack of basic know-how of how to improve the quality and standards of living. I don't even expect anything from someone who hasn't ever been to a college and roams around with a fake college degree. Whats even more frustrating is the fact that these leaders who are voted to power are also authoritarian in their own way, being more of a sacrosanct and won't even bother to listen to experts.

Pune is literally a two and a half hour drive from Mumbai, that's not much. The plateau fall in the middle is what takes up the most time.

In Europe and North America they have international airport for small cities as well. For ex toranto is smaller than pune but have its own international airport.

you could have taken the help of similar situations like in Hong Kong. HK closed its old airport which was in the city and moved it far away and almost into the sea. which ended up freeing the prime real estate in old city quarters and also helped developers build taller buildings over the old airport land. Mumbai may seem dense but it can easily accommodate all its mainland metropolitan population on the island city by effective planning mixed use neighbourhoods on unused railway land, port trust land, the existing airports and salt pan lands. central government is in evidently keeping the real estate prices high by not releasing these lands. This is how the oppressor caste elites use merit in caste apartheid india. jai ho

Fadnavis was trying to complete this project sooner but he unfortunately lost the election and the current SivSena is not letting any infa projects to complete. Bullet train project, Mumbai-Delhi Expressway, Navi Mumbai airport, Metro Line 3.....SivaSena is not co-operating to central govt in land acquisition and major projects are getting delayed

I am a pilot and I know how hard it was if you missed the approach turnings at the moment you will crash into the Hong Kong tower I mean descending was steep then flaring up I mean I can literally see someone on their terrace looking at me in grieve and pain WTH this pilot going to do LOL. Nightmare is after crashing will the skyline fall off?

Mumbai is best city but locla politicians and Central Govt made it a clear useless airport. Everyone wants illegal money and hence they targetted this airports there are many illegal slums around it why dont they remove it..if they do it theres no need to make 2nd airport that too far away from main city which is not even bigger in size.

It is two corridor, one for entry and other for exit. Take off and landing from same direction for safety.

That’s not how it works. In fact, using two intersecting runways is even worse, there are more chances of a takeoff/landing collision with such volumes of traffic. Single runway operations are much safer. In case you didn’t realise, takeoffs and landings are in the same direction, not from opposite ends.
