@@mac33311133 NOT GOOD. I just bought a QLED q6 65" Samsung that looked great on display. And that's at least a mid-tier Samsung unit. I knew the trick they use at the stores, to display the very best signal they can to draw you in. But I expected at least the 1080P/1080I bcast would be decent. I found it was significantly WORSE than the 1080P TV we have. WAY WORSE. Motion blur, pixelization, even ghosting of static content. You can see the unit try to correct and re-correct and its annoying. Not to mention its terrible sound and cheap remote. Unless you're doing all games or all 4K you have to find the best upscaler you can. Hard to do it seems as no manufacturers discuss this. I'm at a loss. I read the Q8 is better. But that's 2x the price.

@@sonofthe80s Gotta say that sounds crap to me. I have a mid price Samsung 43inch 4K tv and I have excellent picture quality, First thing to note - your tv picture will only ever be as good as the source that’s feeding it! Here in the U.K., I have freeview terrestrial TV on a rooftop aerial and generally picture quality looks good across all channels even more so on HD. I also have cable tv which has a mixture of SD , HD and 4K content, and again, very little issue, I’m not naive not to know that QLED or OLED TVs will give much more detailed pictures, but when people say, oh I have terrible picture quality on decent sets like Samsung, I have to wonder what the hell they are watching?, Most Americans buy huge ass TVs without realising also that, tv pictures generally look worse, the bigger you go with screen size, here in the U.K. - 65inch is generally considered a bigger than average tv, not many people have this size - the most common is 43” - 50”, for the simple reason, tv pictures look shit the bigger you go, 4K content should always look decent! And just to finish, majority of TVs in. Store are in demo mode which boost contrasts and colour to make everything look sharpe and oversaturated, you should never ever use your tv with these settings!

I am learning in my research that this is an extremely important subject that virtually none of the pro reviewers are covering. Sure blue rays and 4K signals can look totally awesome but what about all the sd content everyone still watches on normal tv broadcasts. I'm not going to stop watching all my fave programs just because they're not in some sort of super hd. So it's really important a new tv can give a nice image on sd content, otherwise might as well just buy a 5 year old model for tv viewing.

that is why standard 1080p tvs are still the best in my opinion they cover just about any source well enough obviously except 4k but because the content for that is not wide enough enough 1080 is still the best. Like even watch standard def dvds look amazing on my 1080 tv amaing enough with the upscaler that it actually is not to to far off from even bluray quality. its outstanding how good dvds can even look with it. I literally have no equipment that can provide a 4K/UHD/2160p but tons and tons of 1080p stuff. In my order of priority, resolution is secondary to overall accuracy as determined by proper adjustment of basic user and some advanced settings. After years of watching digital flat panel TVs, most of which I've had a hand in performing basic level calibrations, I still have that 'wow' moment when I visit my Aunt, and look at the 17-19" Trinitron showing the news on her kitchen counter! Yes, I adjusted that one also, and it still lends a 'you are there' feeling every time I see it.

I have no issue running 2k or lower resolution content on my 4k 65" Passive 3D LG. It has a phenomenal picture no matter what. Inboard processing is spot on. It depends more on the panel used in the tv. They vary from brand to brand, and within each brand, they vary not only from model to model but also from size to size within those models. And the panels can even vary within the same size on the same model. I find Sony, LG, and Vizio all have fairly consistent picture quality on most models and sizes, but Samsung's lower tier models like the 6000 series have garbage panels and processing. Did you, by any chance, buy one of those? The worst tv I have is a 6000 series Samsung 40" active 3D. Terribly crushed blacks, bad gradation, awful off-axis image, plus other weird anomalies. Even the 3D has bad cross-talk. The only redeeming qualities on the TV are excellent full array back-lighting consistency, and wonderfully smooth 120Hz frame-interpolation (Auto Motion Plus) set to Custom with Blur Reduction and Judder Reduction both set to 10. Makes everything so smooth, buttery, and life-like. Drops the ball on everything else though.

I can’t believe someone hasn’t corrected you yet. Anyway, it’s 4 times the resolution not double the resolution. I know it can be confusing, because 3840 is double 1920 & 2160 is double 1080p; however when you actually multiply the numbers together that’s when you get the pixel count so... 3840x2160 = 8,294,400 And 1920x1080 = 2,073,600 As you can see 8,294,400 is a little more than 4 times resolution of 2,073,600. Also, just additional info 4K derives from that first number 3840... there are cinema formats that’s closer to that number... there is also 2K, 8K and so on...DCI 2K, 4K has a wider screen format than our typical television screen which have a 16:9 ratio.

Nice video! I echo others comments that you produce really good videos, both in production and quality content. I am one of the people you speak of that bought an expensive 4k OLED TV, and hate the way cable looks, particularly things like NFL football. I actually tried all of your suggestions...being unhappy with the TV processing producing soft images and lots of noise and motion artifacting, I tried the upscaling of my higher end Denon receiver. It was slightly better, but the motion was worse. Then I tried upscaling though my Oppo UDP-203 4k Blu Ray player which is known to have really good upscaling/processing. The Oppo was the best of the three. Crystal clear picture...as long as everything is still or moving slowly, but still has some blur and artifacting with motion. My cable signal is generally 1080i. But some signals are more compressed than others I guess. I am not super happy with my cable TV watching experience on my 4K OLED, but have come to the conclusion that because my particular cable feed is either overly compressed, or my cable box is processing the signal badly or whatever, that I am not going to be able to do anything about it. I guess I will watch football on my plasma in the other room...

Thanks for the comment Michael! It sounds like you've run the gamut on things to try to improve your situation, but I'll add a couple of other suggestions just in case it might help. When it comes to motion processing, it's all about finding the sweet spot between the "blur" and "judder" settings in your TV's picture menu. You can tweak these when you set the motion preset to "custom." Since you have an OLED, you can probably max out the blur reduction slider (or close to max) without compromising the brightness of your picture (LCDs usually lose a lot of brightness when raising that setting). The judder setting is the touchy one. If you set it too high it will make the picture look weird, like some kind of strange 3D version of whatever you're watching. Also it can add artifacts around objects that are in motion if it's set too high. It does make a big difference in detail however, so you want to find the spot where it's helping with detail but not adding any weirdness to the picture. Also, check your cable box settings and see if it has a resolution setting that outputs whatever is the native resolution of the channel you're watching. Your TV probably does a way better job handling the processing than the cable box, so the less it does the better! Hope that helps - thanks again!

Just to clarify: upscaling has nothing to do with jutter/motion/color banding. All tv's used to stretch and heavily blur non native resolution content. It could only be counteracted with sharpness. Only recently pemium, expensive, 4K tv's started to do smart, adaptive sharpening that fake texture details while minimizing sharpness artifacts aka outlines.

If you want to watch true 4K utilizing all the pixels on your TV you are not going to get it with streaming 4K. Those videos are compressed and are not of the same quality. A 4K Blu-ray disc is 100 GB or more. You’re not gonna be able to stream something at that size. So I don’t agree that the 4K Blu-ray format is going to die off. If people want the best quality image for their $3000 OLED they will want to get an UHD Blu-ray player.

Or the easiest way is to search for your TV model number for picture settings and input the information via the TV menu.

By default modern 4k TVs have all kinds of noise filters, mpeg filters, motion interpolation and similar turned on by default. Turn of all that crap and it will start to look more natural and normal as most of thees make things look worse not better... Also, 4K tv will not magically make crappy TV broadcasts look better. You will need high qulity 4k video to make use of the 4k advantages. If you 4k tv is larger then your old 1080p and your viewing distance is the same and you watch crappy low quality TV broadcast it will of course look worse because it will show you the lack of quality more clearly. Digital tv broadcasts is of horrible bad quality most of the time in my experience compared to even the most crappy pirated stuff on Internet. Nothing I have ever found on internet have been worse then Digital TV at least here in Norway... Also there is many things that can go wrong so TV gets the wrong signal (happened with my new 55" Samsung). In my case tv was expecting a full RGB signal but was getting a limited dynamic range signal from the PC bacause HDMI2 was turned off on the TV by default. Collors was all wrong and everything to dark (25 darkest and 16 brightest colors was simply put to 0 and 255). When I activated HDMI2 in the TV I suddenly had the possibility to turn on full 0 - 255 RGB at 60hz in 4k and no more distorted colors.

Can you tell me where on the settings did you turn the HDMI 2.0 on? I have upgraded from a 2017 samsung 50' 4k TV UHD to a 2020 55' QLED Q70T. The image quality is very bad. I have been playing with the settings all week and can't get to match the crystal image on 2017

@@mecximusa I use my 55" 4k Samsung as computer monitor only and I had to buy a 60$ 1m long camble to get 4k working on my 55" Samsung or it would run 30hz compressed color mode. And even then it did sometimes loose the signal in the first 6months every day. After that it has worked fine. Other then that I had to make sure my computer was using uncompressed color and 0-255 black range at 60hz manually when running Windows 8 and 7, now with Windows 10 that option is not even there anymore but it seems to run correctly now... It seems there is many things that can go wrong with the signal making it end up running at lower settings. I don`t remember the setting I changed to get it working, just fidled around in the settings until I found it. But it could simply be that your HDMI cable is of bad quality. How is the picture quality if you run the TVs built in apps? If it is still bad then it is something wrong with TV settings or possibly the TV is broken.

I got a 55" vizio smart tv 4k a few years ago. Unless you are playing 4k, it looks terrible. Very choppy and blocky. I also found an obscure setting that allows the tv to switch between 30hz and 60hz depending on the video. It helped with youtube videos that were jittery. Otherwise great video. You summed up my problem to the t. It wasn't a cheap tv though so I'm surprised it didn't have better hardware to process the upscaling.

The reason why it looks better or suppose to look better in a store is because all the soap opera true motion effects are activated in the store to get your eyes to buy it . When it’s home you have to do some calibrating work on it. I turned all my true motion off it doesn’t do anything.

This is replacing a SONY 55' Bravia HD tv. That tv had a good picture on brights also and really bad pixelized in blacks. Maybe I need a new Dish Box? Brightness and backlight is adjusted to your liking and my contrast is usually 90-100 and color is at 80. Hdr is used for only movies, gaming and youtube ect....If people dont like sharpness and motion plus. Go back to 60hz. Exactly, our brains are so used to a lower resolution, are so used to 24 fps content (something that was agreed upon more than 80 years, to make moving images (or movies) look smooth without wasting money on film), that 4K seems to look 'bad' when watching movies. When The Hobbit was released, people and critics said it looked bad because of the higher resolution and 30fps. In fact, it was the opposite: the picture quality was 'too good' for our brains. You now see so much detail that you couldn't see in 1080p and 24fps, which meant that you could see when something was a set piece or prop, you could see the imperfections of the CGI, ... We are going to used to it the more we watch it. In the 60's, 70's, 80's... when we saw a movie, we thought it looked great. Well, now we think they look crap. The thing is: the jump from 1080p to 4k is so big (4 times sharper), that it's like a shock. I watched The Dark Knight Rises yesterday in 4K, and thought: 'jeezes, that Batman costume looks fake like plastic'. Guess what: it is fake and made out of plastic. :-)

@@daughterearth9 On my 9 year old LG 42" TV you turn of all filters in the menus (clearly marked). But on my new 55" Samsung it is a lot more complicated because they have tried to make it easy and less complicated. The manual give you no help as it only say how to hook it up and turn it on, rest you must figure out by yourself (easy and less complicated my a ...) But I have on my own by testing input response figured out that it seems to turn of ALL filters automatically when the Samsung is connected to a computer. I also had trouble with that it would only use 30hz or 60hz with limited dynamic range and the last one gave distorted colors with no way of correcting it (unlike the old LG tv where correcting for that was easy). But after fiddling around on my own I found out by accident that I could turn on support for HDMI2 and full color, very strange that they would leave something like that turned of by default making the TV usless as PC monitor... I already miss my 9 year old 42" LG tv as that was much less complicated and easy to use because there was no hidden automatic settings with no explanations what it would do. That old TV had more advanced settings then a professional high end monitor when you dared to wander into the expert. I was using it as a high end professional monitor for 1/3 of the price and all those settings did come in handy... Now it seems impossible to get a TV that is not made so simple that you can not adjust anything by yourself anymore...

When I'm lying slightly to the left, the top right hand corner has a grayness to it. The bar starts out black from the left top but becomes lighter as its reaches the right top. I get up and move to the right and now the left widescreen bar is darker...? Is this because it's an LED, and not and OLED?

Yes it is because it is a LCD panel, most likely of TN or VA type as they have larger problems with that if you do not sit right on front of the tv the colors and black gets distorted (low viewing angle). IPS LCD screens have less of this problem and OLED have not this problem at all. Qled VA LCD screens have less problem then normal VA LCD screens (QLED has nothing to do with OLED as QLED is also LCD unlike OLED that have no LCD screen at)

I am in India, I have a plan to buy Sony Bravia XR 4K smart tv 55" OLED TV to replace my 11 years old Sony KDL-40EX720 [40'], not smart tv, no bluetooth, sound is low when I see OTT like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Hotstar, but in normal TV HD channels are good. When I saw this new OLED TV in retail showroom, as you said demo video files of movie clips, nature video files, and some 4k quality videos only running, but when I asked the sales person to change to HD TV channels to know the picture and sound quality, I am shocked to see the HD channel of English channels such as star movies, the video pixels are not crispy, clear, looks like blurry smooth, not looks as same quality as like I saw in my own 40inch resolution of 1080p. Now I am upset whether to buy Sony Bravia XR 4K 55" OLED TV or not? is there any settings to change to look as same quality of 1080p in this 4K 55" OLED TV ? if not, then what to do now? To look into any other TV in 1080p for 55" for smart tv, not to buy OLED Tv for Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos? Please help me to give suggestions to have smart tv, bluetooth, dolby vision, Dolby Atmos, good sound and picture quality with 120 hz refresh rate, apple air play, chrome cast built in, google tv, etc......?
