We ended up having to cable drive a rage fuel pump off the back of the external oil pump (because we were using a gear drive procharger ) but I know star makes a hex driven vacuum pump that can also be driven off the back of the oil pump too (obviously you would need a pump with the rear drive we used Peterson)

That is where I thought he was going when he started to talk about different drive methods. Seems like it would be less of a headache having it direct drive rather than an extra belt to mess around with, though they do need to run at slightly different speeds so it might not really be an option.
@rickfinsta2951 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if he needs to worry about 50% versus 55% drive ratios but what I got from the video is his concern with that difference is why he isn't setting up a direct drive.

As an engine builder of moderate success that chooses to build old dinosaur pushrod 6 cylinder Ford engines for speedway (dirt track to you blokes) here in Australia, I feel your pain on choosing a non ‘cookie cutter’ engine. The time and effort required to fabricate parts to make such engines competitive makes you wonder, BUT and it’s a big BUT, the reward when you see one on the front row of a title meeting, ahead of big dollar modern engines is sweet reward. It’s not for everyone, that’s for certain but I understand and admire your passion Kevin.

Just watching your video. You should look into the cartridge for the relief valve in that oil pump. The relief spring is flawed and will bind on the internal threads, capturing the spring and causing a no oil pressure situation when you left off the throttle. I Have trashed a crank in the past from this.

Neat job with the jockey wheel fitment to the Cutty Sark to allow it to be moved around 👍😎 Most dry sump pumps, which it looks like the pressure is based on, have options for adding different driven items at the end - like fuel pumps and vacuum pumps - have you talked to your suppliers? [edit] Got to that bit 👍 With the proposed mounting of the oil(?) pump, welding on a backing plate should not only allow the fasteners to be threaded into sufficient material thickness, it'll reduce the risk of fractures. With the end bolts, an alternative is to use a length of tubing, possible welded, clamped between longer bolts and the sump lip. Jackshaft idea is a neat way to reduce the snout length.

Kevin, one thing from experience I might pass along, the through holes in the oil pan for access to the oil pan mounting bolts, Make sure they are extended into the pan as far as they can, space allowing. My pan had zero intrusion and when you are at the track and you drain the oil out then remove the plugs to remove the pan I end up with raining oil from those holes. I see your pan has some but the depth is hard to see but just passing along something for ya.
