30 solid seconds of foot check, followed by fluff, cuteness, and sunny feathers. Thank you for drowning out the dreariness of the current world for a few minutes. It is needed, and appreciated. ❤️☀️

I just watched the video before this one of the blue throat and he wouldn’t stop touching you and pulling your hair and running around bopping up and down-screaming ah!! And this guy is just standing in one spot and won’t bother pulling/nipping u at all but still loves to be close to you and loves you!! Way to go comet for good behavior!❤

I loved the vid. That said, I am an avian behavioralist, and new research indicates that birds who stare at their feet are _actually_ trying to communicate that they are being mistreated. In this case, the foot staring was of a longer duration than most, which is how exotic parrots like Macaws communicate that their owners are very good at concealing the abuse, and that despite outward appearances, their allegations of neglect should be taken seriously. It’s either that, or the bird could be trying to communicate that they need to poop soon.

So glad you did a video with Comet, he's such a beautiful McCaw with striking colors. When you were describing how to tell Comet and Tusa apart from the back, it works well. It’s fantastic the way you let Capri be with and respect the birds. So many families who don’t own birds as a profession will just straight up rehome a bird if it doesn’t work out the first time with a kid instead of teaching the kid and the bird to respect and be respected

Ok so I know you've probably thought of this and you are so wayyyy more experienced than I could ever be-- but my corella started doing "prolonged foot checks" last year kinda out of the blue. For a couple days I didn't think anything of it, checked her feet, no problems, so I left her be. She kept doing it, so I wanted to look once more fully. I ended up finding the tiniest of splinters on the underside of one of her feet, so small I would've never seen or felt it otherwise. It wasn't inflamed or anything. I believe it was from a wooden perch she had gnawed on. Now I sand down every natural wood perch and check them by running my hand across them every so often.

Is Comet footchecking or just waiting for a head scratch because you’re there? With my Sennie, it’s a sure sign he’s angling for a head scratch, the other sign he give and is a personal invitation to scratch his head, is when he starts scratching his own head if I or my husband are near by. Making pincher motions with the thumb and forefinger triggers him to start scratching his head, which is then also an invitation for a head scratch. I use this as a receptivity gauge. He’s natural wary of strangers (stranger/danger!), but if they do the finger pincher motion and he starts scratching his head, it means he trusts them to scratch his head and will not bite. If he doesn’t start scratching his head, it means “you’re getting bit if you come near me”. I love your channel and despite having my lovely little Senegal for 23 years, I’ve discovered that I (and he) can still learn new tricks. I’ve started target training using pecans or favorite fresh fruits as a treat, discovering he’s more motivated by some treats than by others. Ie. Offering a pecan can sometimes gets a look of indifference, other times he targets right away; strawberries will get an immediate target without a second of hesitation after only a few times working with the target training. Pretty impressive system. He’s never shown an interest in flying, preferring to walk everywhere, but I would love to be able to take him out and fly him, providing it’s safe (we have a lot of sharp shinned hawks in the area because I feed the sparrows and woodpeckers), last thing I want is for a Sharp Shinned to think I’m ringing the dinner bell. I’d be absolutely devastated if anything bad happened.
