Goose, there's one thing that could "resurect" TWINE speedrunning: REAL-TIME ATTACK. Yes, forget the timer at the end of the mission. So, RTA is inconvenient in the sense that you have to keep a timer, start it at the right time, end it at the right time, etc. But it has its plus: it encourages not only good gameplay but also good menu-ing. So, if you use buffer strats in TWINE, you can do it, but the RTA timer is still ticking. Tick tock, tick tock... And, at the end, even if the level says you completed the level in 0:00, but your RTA timer says 4h57min32s677f, all that you proved is that you took 4 hours to play a 3 minutes level. But it is also, in a sense, less punishing. Like you mentionned at the end, you could only pause once to get a specific item and, if you failed to get it then, your run would be invalidated. Well, with RTA, that's not an issue. The clock keep ticking... RTA also disregard game lag. So yeah. Oh, and, it avoids "tied WR", well, not entirely avoids but reduces almost to null the possibility of one. My 2¢.
@HappyBeezerStudios6 жыл бұрын
Quite some games do that. Not using the in-game timer but an external timer with fixed start and stop moments.

My Question is. I thought there was discussion on what is and isnt allowed for a run. wouldnt you just make that invalid if someone tries to do the pause trick. and based on when i played. you dont need to do pause the game ever in TWINE. you can switch gadgets on the control itself. Thats what a SR community do. explain what is and isnt allowed in a run. what counts and doesnt to make it fair for all people who are competing in these time runs. a lot of the explanation doesnt make it seem like the game is impossible to run, just a sub story of a person and thats why no one does it. which is strange in the history of SR ive looked into from you and others over the years. So... people should still try to SR it.
@Seriona14 жыл бұрын
Speedrun.com has only one rule in place which is not to use the pause trick otherwise each level can have a 0:0 but as you said, there is no requirement to pause so if you watch the world records, they don't.

I'm not sure how I found your channel however ever since Discovery I highly enjoy and anticipate your content. I suppose much of it has to do with games I played in my childhood. Also I like your methodical approach to the craft. I can appreciate any ones ability to focus and become so unconsciously competent. I never did speed runs when I had Goldeneye but I know I was the 2nd kid in my entire neighborhood to beat the whole game on 007. (MN) But I borrowed my game and system to one of my friends down the street and his older sister's boyfriend beat me up and punked me for my 64. It really sucks because I couldn't tell my parents or else my dad would have kicked my ass too! so I never had another 64 until just recently I picked one up on Craigslist and I bought James Bond (also perfect dark, waverace and tetrisphear) and have been enjoying it ever since. Thanks for caring about this stuff so much man in today's world sincerity is really great! Keep it up 👍

It honestly kinda sucks that TWINE basically has zero speedrun community, I think TWINE is a damn fine game that ages almost as well as GoldenEye. Although keep in mind I played *all* of the EA Bond games before I picked up GoldenEye (yes that means the entire GameCube lineup) and other than Rogue Agent being meh, I love all of those games. GoldenEye certainly deserves all the praise it got and continues to get, but it's forever shafted the rest of the games like they don't even exist. TWINE has incredible attention to detail with to the movie (setpieces, music, the voice acting is surprisingly good), the all-purpose watch is a cool consistent gadget, lots of weapons have alternate fire modes and the multiplayer is damn good with having bots in it. Sure, it's got its issues and it's not as easy to pick up or as snappy as GoldenEye, but I just think it's a shame that TWINE barely gets any love. Even NightFire seems to only be just NOW gaining traction, and that's widely considered the best game after GoldenEye (me personally I kinda love it and Agent Under Fire equally). I can't fault GoldenEye itself for it, it just disappoints me that barely anyone cares about the EA era of Bond where I have the most memories with. Yeah, EA's known for being borderline evil nowadays, but even when their Bond games were also annual releases, at least they were all DIFFERENT from each other even if it's the same genres.
