Not a mysterious speedrunner, but a mysterious speed chess player: In 2001, grand master Nigel Short, then #2 blitz player of the world, lost 8 online rapid games against an unknown player. No one has ever taken credit for these wins. Some believe it was a programmer with a strong chess computer. Others, including Short, believe the mysterious player was former world champion Bobby Fischer, then a recluse. There're evidences to both sides.
@estebanembroglio63714 жыл бұрын
@@GamerFolklore Short asked the mysterious player during the game if he knew Armano Acevedo, a not-very-well-known chess master from Fischer's era. The player replied almost immediately, "Siegen 1970", which was the year and location of a tournament where Fischer played Acevedo. The reply was given too quick to have been looked up, so the player either had an encyclopedic knowledge of Fischer's chess career, or it was the man himself.

This applies to a lot of things. A few years ago our studio was contracted to do the visuals and animation for a kids' show, something we had never done before; everything else was to be handled by a subsidiary of the property's owners who, probably due to the sizable investment into the project, opted to send everyone on their end who was involved in the show's actual production to be with us in person. This was fine and it wasn't too unusual to be put in this situation but this particular case was notable for how thorough they were in assuring the show's marketability. Anyways, so production has started and we're getting barked at by a bunch of directors to do "this!" and "that!", that sort of thing. Compromising between artistic integrity and corporate meddling always sucks and although you understand it's necessary you still end up feeling fairly resentful and sometimes, as in this case, can end up acting fairly unprofessional. So one day we're doing our work and getting reprimanded by the brass, the usual shenanigans, when a high-rank employee from the client company comes in to do an overview of our work so far. It's pretty standard stuff so everyone is mostly sticking to their paper and screens doing whatever. Out of nowhere though the whole space it just reverberating with conflicting shouts and even a scream. I was a sort-of supervisor at the time so I went to go see what was going on when I find one of their directors and two of our animators/designers arguing with each other while the client is standing there watching this unfold. I go into damage control mode, apologize to the director and find out that they have differing opinions on some minor design choice, something inconsequential. We're sorting it out right when the client steps forward and very intently analyzes the work on the screen; if you've never had to deal with a service/client situation before then be assured that this is one of the most stressful things a client can do. We all, even the director (who technically works with the client), go silent and anxiously stare at him. It's a minute before he breaks the lack of sound by listing the problems he has with the design... and then he does so for all the other designs, the backgrounds, the animation, everything. He very methodically rips apart our hard work and tells us why it's not good enough for the show and why kids won't like it. He then gives us very elaborate and specific advice with examples and personal anecdotes on what kids like, what they don't like and how we should go about implementing changes. He correctly guesses who does and doesn't have kids just by how their designs look (genuinely impressive considering he did this probably 7 times and was right about all of them), explains that he has a few kids and a bunch of grandkids and that we should spend some more time with our own kids, our cousins, nieces and nephews if we got them. Really cool guy, gave solid advice that we probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise and wouldn't have figured out ourselves. He really helped improve our capacity to work on projects with very specific demographics. Also sorry for the rant, just thought it was relevant. Whoops ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If privacy is Bo Peep's concern, I don't blame the guy. My favorite example of the internet's scary propensity for doxing is the Burger King foot lettuce story. The wizards at 4chan were somehow able to find out which Burger King the guy works at and get him fired. They did this with nothing but a below-the-knee shot and the sentence "This is the lettuce you eat at Burger King". Sure, the guy deserved to be fired, but the ease with which a sufficiently motivated person can find you from a picture should be scary to everyone. I personally use Tutanota, other privacy-focused software, and limit my use of software from companies that are known to mass collect user data.

This sounds like the ramblings you'd expect from a drunken stranger at night. The future of net integration is having every aspect of our life uploaded as data to be shared and monitored. All those moments you never boasted about your good deeds would not have an audience. When you're feeling low, we'll have proof you're a wonderful person. Bad people though? They are the ones that will fear such a future. Blackmailing people to keep quiet, threats of violence, none of this will help you cover up your toxic soul. You will be seen and judged for all your actions... Then we just gotta tie it in that your profile has to have a karma rating above 1/5 to become a world leader. Instantly 80% of candiates would be removed from even trying to get elected. And imagine it too, that getting a low rating could get you removed from the police force too. Imagine if people faced consequences for rape and murder. Crazy thought right? Privacy and anonymity have no place in a world where we are free to be ourselves. Hiding away is just fueling the system that punishes us for acting openly. The more we excel at hiding, the less we accomplish in standing up to problems.

(Little) Bo Peep is a British nursery rhyme and also a peekaboo game for children. Peekaboo is obviously a game of now-you-see-it-now-you-don't. On Bo Peep's "Masquerade" KZbin video , the description apparently jokingly rips the NTSC version of the game. NTSC N64 games have a higher framerate than PAL games-which are used in western Europe. Eurocom, a British company, developed TWINE to be the fastest first-person game on N64, focusing on framerate rate and technical aspects. The game closely follows the film but the 'Underground Uprising' level was not from the Bond film at all, rather it was added for game design. Wyster's "luckfest" bomb defusal explanation is leaving out the possibility of a generally unknown mechanic. My conclusion: Bo Peep is not a former British developer for the game-it's late and i need to go to bed.

Wish I saw this earlier; I have a "kind of" theory about Bopeep's untied record and the bomb diffuse. I'm wondering if he took advantage of how the game did its RNG for the bomb. If, say, he found out that the game uses the time elapsed from a hard reset, and if the intervals are wide enough (unlikely, I know), perhaps he found a way to duplicate a specific behavior with proper timing. Now I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough to have confidence in this even as a theory, and things like this were probably checked for anyway, but just putting it out there.

BoPeep is just some random player who stopped caring about the grind and attention. Ive walked away from discord servers randomly a few times, and I'm sure people question it for a few minutes, then people move on with their life!

This is just more proof that there is, or will, ALWAYS be someone better or even just luckier than you. It’s not a bad thing, but a good reason to always stay humble and put your self worth and faith into something beyond what you own or your own accomplishments.

rwhitegoose I really hope you please will consider these two subject that I think are missing. 1) In the start when speedrunning was in it's first infant time people did speedrun but none knew of glitches and did therefor played the real game as fast as possible. But how did it become acceptable to use glitches, how were the debate about it, you could argue that that is not "playing the game" you are in fact "cheating". There have to be some who thought that "it's not the right way"? 2) The history about the controller, how did 1.1, 1.2 and so on get invented, how was the reception on a new "version"? What about when some did begin to use two controllers, was that considered cheating or "not playing the game right"? Who did invent the different versions, what provoked these inventions, were there versions that never got accepted, were to difficult or simply never ought on?

Some of us just have a really different perspective on the overall hobby of gaming and what we find rewarding about things that speed runners typically do. I do some pretty crazy and interesting gameplay performance for a tiny little dedicated community of people who share my niche interests and fascinations. To most viewers here, I might come across as one of those weirdos who invents random categories for personal satisfaction, only I don't try pushing them toward the mainstream communities like I think anyone will care. What I do is genuinely interesting to the few people who follow me, but I just feel like it's not worth going out of my way spreading my stuff everywhere, casting a wide net over a large number of people knowing it will only come back having caught one or two if I'm lucky.

There are a fair amount of people like this that just really want to remain anonymous. That don't want to put themselves out there. Personally I'm just not that personality type, I prefer to get myself out there and be recognized. But even some of my friends pretty much don't want to be bothered and thus have no presence online at all, and I can respect that because it gets tiring having to clear friends requests on steam because I exploited a bug during the steam summer sale and got to lvl 100 (which causes bots and people to friend you just based on you being a high level). And there are many times that I just have to take a break from the internet, so I can understand those that want to cordon themselves off.

If not an alt account, there's also the possibility it was someone from a country with more restrictive attitudes towards the internet, media, et al. Don't know why they wouldn't have gone for a different, "larger" video hosting site.
