Common names: I once shared a house with two other people called Peter (and one who wasn't), and I had a boss called Peter too. It got very confusing. There were ways around it though. At home, one of the Peters was always called Pete, one was always called Peter and I got called either Pete or Peter depending on who else was there that I might be confused with.

In Greece the short name for Penelope (Πηνελόπη) is usually Popi or Poppy. The variations in Greek are: Πόπη, Πόππη, Πόππυ, Πόπυ Wiktionary also lists Μπήλιω (Billio) and Πίτσα (Pitsa) which sounds like pizza so it's quite funny :D

I had a lot of Greek colleagues in med school and they really enjoyed messing with us because Romanians don't understand a word in Greek. Some Greek guys nicknamed a female teacher "Pipa" and told us it's short for Penelope (her actual name), took us more than a year to find out that the word literally means "pipe" but is used as slang for fellatio... Poor woman had a habit of chewing on pens when she was nervous or tired and was rather attractive for her age, I hope she never found out what those punks were thinking about during her lectures.
@stevierv224 жыл бұрын
@@Dr_V That's actually slang for bjob. That kind of people are full of shit. I am also not surprised it was a med school. They go to Romania and get an easy degree just to work on public sector here assigned by their political acquaintances. She probably rejected them after trying to get more intimate with her and called her that name as some sort of revenge.

@@stevierv22 Easy degree means nothing in this profession, if you're crap sooner rather than later you'll get in a lot of trouble. I know how they used to buy their grades, but things changed a lot since then. Even if this video was for the name Penelope, they are several fictional Pennys worth to be mentioned. First is Money-Penny, Q's secretary from the James Bond movies and in-between relationship flirt for 007, who in turn inspired two parody versions, Penny from Super Secret Secret Squirrel (of 2 Stupid Dogs cartoon from the early 90's) and Monkey-Penny of the James Bond-parody kid-adventure game series Spy Fox from Humongous Entertainment. From the Disney movies, there are two characters named Penny: First the young orphan girl from The Rescuers, and Penny Forrester from Bolt (who by the way, is not actual named Penny as it was the name of the character that she played in the Bolt series within the movie, but due to the title character not knowing her actual name and for most of the movie believes that what happens in the series is reality being tricked into believing so, he, Mittens and Rhino refer to her as Penny).

Most of his videos' interpretations of ancient greek mythology are poorly researched, rushed and not cited . This kind of misinformation is not to be encouraged ; For instance , in this specific video , it is clear that both theories can be used to describe the name of Penelope ; the first describes her personality and her strong character in the Odyssey and the second her mythological background . This comical moment in this video that I was referring to was the epitome of this trend of disrespecting . I'm sorry if I offended you in any way with my comment , but , even as I am a fan of youtubers choosing to elaborate upon my country's history, I quite right so dispise misinformation in its every form . Just to give you a perspective, it's sad to see a video of the Greek islands' etymological origins and find out that almost everything he says is wrong , just because it is very poorly researched . Same goes for the ancient Greek mythology , which is the most complex of all Greek subjects and deserves our respect .
