Why Does Saudi Arabia Exist? | The Rise of the House of Saud

Why is there a Kingdom of Saudi Arabia? For centuries, external powers lorded over the Arabian peninsula, but there was one place, its center, that outsiders could never control, at least not fully. There, Arab clans operated with significant autonomy, and the greatest among them was the House of Saud. After allying themselves with a new, and radical, religious sect, they would spend two centuries trying, with various degrees of success, to forge a powerful state for themselves in Arabia. All of which would culminate in the conquests of Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud (better known in the West as Ibn Saud) who, after nearly 30 years of war, created Saudi Arabia in 1932.

Radical? Whabbism? There is no such thing as Whabbism and mohammed bin abdulalwhab was not radical, Muslims in the Arabian Peninsula in his time returned to worshiping Graves and stones like they were before Islam until he came and enlightened us again and made us return to the right path and we never call ourselves Whabbis and Whabbisem never existed as a cult with its own beliefs separated from the rest of the Muslims, Whabbisem is the biggest lie you westerns lie on Saudi Arabia, and such insult to us will not be tolerated

As a Saudi I am grateful for King Abdulaziz and all the Arabian tribes fought with him to unite this desert that never saw such prosperity. You have to understand at that time people starved to death and the survival is for the stronger in the arabian desert during the otmans empire that didn’t do much for them. You would say it was the oil but oil wasn’t enough for unstable country. The country needed a visionary king rules by firm hands for Saudi to be what it became.

Very important point that needs correction. The saudi monarch in the first and second state was called both Emir and Imam and in fact Imam is more emphasized. The monarch was both political and religious head. The clergys function was to support him. That changed in the third state. Abdulaziz was called Sultan "malik" king and Emir of various emirates and kingdoms until they were all united officially to form modern saudi arabia with abdulaziz taking the title of king.

Great video, but there’s some points that needs to be correct 1- Mohammad bin Abdullawhab movement wasn’t radical, it came out of necessity when the Ottoman empire neglected the Arab people and they were left uneducated until they lost the teaching of islam at that time and people started worshiping other gods, but the radical movement came in the 70s and 80s and it’s what we call “Al-Sahwa” and they used Mohammad bin Abdullawhab book and name to justify their views that’s why people think they are connected when in fact the 2 movements has nothing to do with each other, that’s why when you see pictures and videos of Saudi up until the early 70s you will see a modern country and not as religious as it has became in the 80s but we finally got ride of “Al-sahwa” here in Saudi. 2- Al-khwan is a radical movement that started in Egypt not Saudi, and it was never part of the political scene in Saudi until the 80s when they supported Al-sahwa and it has always been against the royal family not with it. 3- the last point is the part that western historians like to leave out when they try to explain the dynamic here in Saudi. Our community here is a tribal one and when King Abdulaziz was trying to unite the country he made deals with most of the tribes leaders and was supported by most of them because he was one of them, and people have had enough of being ruled and terrorized by a foreign power which was the Ottoman Empire at the time, that’s why they rallied around him and went to war with him against the Ottomans and he promised a future without the ottomans control, and up until now the royal family here is still supported by all the tribes. So King Abdulaziz ruled be uniting the people under the tribal flag not necessarily the religious one.

Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab was not radical. Hardly a ‘neutral’ take on history here. LOL. Perhaps he’s ‘radical’ to the people of whims and desires and are ignorant of their religion. Stop taking sources of history outside of Europe from European and western sources. And maybe study the religion a bit more before definitely defining someone as radical or not.

3:55 Man that sounds a lot like the Fremen from Dune. Frank Herbert is known to have been very heavily influenced by Arabic history in writing the story, but this is pretty eerily close. A displaced prince gets back his land thanks to taking control of large extremely proficient fighters accustomer to harsh life of the desert through cultivating their extreme religious fanaticism towards him. Also the fact that the ruler eventually loses control of the fanatical followers is also comparable to Paul's fate.

I think this is the best narration I have heard of the history of Saudi Arabia. Concise but covering almost all the key points. Well Done. I hope you can do you can do one to explain how the roots of terrorism were formed in this region, the role of both Ultra Wahabism and Muslim brotherhood. And how current reforms in Saudi Arabia are going to change that at very roots. Cheers

@@jayjayjay835 It is complex for sure. There are waves in all religions and the age of crusades were certainly an intense wave. However, the one our generation experienced started when some idiots decided inciting Muslims to some sort of undefined 'Jihad' was a cheap way to fight back the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. Also, the role of the Muslim brotherhood is often hidden from the world as they work in stealth mode.

It's crazy to think, if the British got involved to help Najd than Najd may have united Arabia. The new government would have been much more pro western (First from Arab revolt and now British help to unite Arabia) when oil was discovered this new Saudi Arabia could have become a very strong western ally.

Smth Worth to mention: the first 2 emirates did not succeed bc Al Saud didn’t allied themselves with the most powerful tribes at that time (Harb) (Mutair) (Otaiba) those tribes ruled 35% of Arabia, and they block the ottomans from moving to Najad and deep west hijaz (Otaiba & Harb) and when ibn saud allied himself with these tribes they were able to crush the ottomans and jabal Shamar (state puppet)

The Emirate of Jabal Shammar🇲🇻 is the greatest, my friend! Look at what the orientalist John Frederick Williams said about the Shammar tribe, which subjugated most of the tribes of the island and which (never allied with the West and did not submit to it despite the continuous offers of Great Britain, France, Russia, and Germany), John said; “When the Astana government consolidated its control over the island, the rebellious Shammar clan presented a strong and continuous challenge to the Ottoman authority. It took a struggle that lasted almost 100 years, on the part of the Ottoman government and also on the part of the British and Iraqi governments after the First Great War, to subjugate the Shammar permanently.” Yes. The Shammar state was in control without oil, and King Abdulaziz took advantage of Britain in order to restore the rule of his ancestors, so he established the Saudi state with the help of Britain..

Inshallah, if you look at what happened to Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians and Kurds, as well as the Arabs, you will understand why we valued independence. We have revolted against the corrupt Turkish rulers in Istanbul, we failed at first, but we never gave up and finally we regained our homeland after 400 years. May Allah guide our heroes to heaven and grant them janaat for overthrowing the evil Turks.

Truth always prevail, the saudi family is squarely responsible for all the calamities and humiliations that have fallen on the muslim ummah. The British brought the Plan to Shariff hussain Al Saud who plotted the destruction of the CALIPHATE rule in return to be made king . He was also paid 7 million pounds. We will continue to publish the truth. Their silence, inaction on the issue of Palestine and their past historical involvement against Iraq is more than enough to tell the world who are the Saudi family.
