The 2km straight requirement is easily dealt with with temporary chicanes, I'm not sure but I think with the current chicanes, each of the 3 sections is shorter than the 2km. Also these FIA grade 1 requirements are relatively recent, so why didn't F1 race in the past? I think the real reason is that the ACO has only one thing going for them which is control over the 24h race and circuit. If F1 raced on La Sarthe it would steal their thunder, so they have every incentive to block this from happening.

150,000 tickets for the weekend averaging $150 a piece would generate well over $20 million. They have almost everything they need. Make Bugatti FIA Grade 1 could be done pretty easy for the first year, then continually improve the circuit each year. This would also help Moto GP. Le Mans is so much closer to Paris and England it really makes a lot of sense.

it would be interesting for a 12 or 24hr F1 race. i doubt the cars could last though. i still would like to see Leguna Seca be upgraded to FIA track. seeing a F1 go through the corkscrew would be interesting. tad more bias as i’m 2.5hrs away from Leguna and i want a more local race. ;p

I'm not a fan of long straights on circuits. Driving flat out in a straight line requires guts but not a lot of skill. Overtakes are possible by slipstreaming the car ahead, getting a speed advantage and making a gutsy overtake but it's not the most highly skilled overtake. When drivers use the twists and turns of a track to set up an overtake and then do a gutsy and skillful pass that is when motorsport is at its most exciting for me.
@JustSomeDinosaurPerson3 жыл бұрын
I think a mix of both is more exciting, personally. I liked old Le Mans where you could see cars rocket ahead as machines pushed to the absolute limit before having to brake hard and deal with a jungle of twists and turns. They complement each other really well.

Great explanation of "Why not?". Some of the FIA's specifications seem totally arbitrary (and the Mulsanne Straight with chicanes is not that long), but as usual it all comes down to costs. The track would only break even and the teams would have to modify the cars for this race. Sad really, as I would like to see such a race. Great video with explanatory pictures and videos. Well done, you!

Seeing F1 cars race at the Circuit de la Sarthe would be a blast, but I highly doubt it could go ahead due to safety reasons. Monaco and Spa are examples of tracks that the FIA made an expection for, because both do not meet the recommended lenght and still hold a Grade 1 license. The lenght isn't the main issue, it's safety. And in my opinion, the Bugatti Circuit would only provide dull racing in modern F1 cars.

Just another reminder that race cars are fast only in their specific applications; lmp1 cars are too slow compared to f1 cars, but f1 cars can't actually finish an endurance race

in reality, a new engine limited in rpm and horsepower and many many tires would be enough the 24 hours is about 5500 km a formula engine has to do 6000 at maximum power

@@andreacimaroli8311 you sure about that endurance figure? This is a long time ago, but when Williams were trying CVT's, one reason they didn't implement them is they found running the engine at full blast for a whole race diminished its life too much

@@juancuelloespinosa Formula engines have to do 7 races each one for reasons of number (only 3 engines a year) so they travel about 6000km I have read indeed that maybe they travel 8000km, so I think he would be able to do 5000km not even having to go so fast on the straights

Why doesn’t F1 race at Le Mans: 1967 French GP: AM I A JOKE TO YOU? 😂😂 it’s due to the length of the Circuit De La Sarthe, the longest track takes 1.43 or so to lap, Le Mans takes more than 3 minutes, also because the Bugatti Circuit (MotoGP layout) is better for motorcycles & Small cars, not F1 cars. Thanks! Would love to be on this channel one day Lottie! I have good F1 knowledge and I think I have good opinions & facts.

F1 at Le Mans just seems a bit wrong. That circuit is such a staple of endurance racing that bringing in a different series just doesn't seem right. Although it would be fun to see an F1 car just make a single lap around there to see its laptime :D

Bugatti Circuit isn't really interesting, like you say in the video. If you want to race at Le Mans, you got to go for the long loop, the straights are the exciting parts, without them, they shouldn't bother. F1 cars could definitely do a 305-kilometer race there, engines and brakes would hold up easily. The safety standards of Circuit de la Sarthe are quite modest, that would be a problem. I'd settle for a virtual F1 race, there's already virtual championship and there should be a round at Le Mans included.

It’s a shame that the FIA won’t allow F1 to race on tracks with straights that are longer than 2km. I feel like all the long straights on this track would be great for overtaking. Hopefully the 2022 regulations will sort this out.
@theodentherenewed47853 жыл бұрын
Tracks are supposed to be shorter than 7 kilometers, so there's no room for a 2-kilometer straight. A straight on a track is defined as a part between corners, so Circuit de le Sarthe doesn't really have a straight longer than 2 km.
