Why Doesn’t Jason Weaver Sing Anymore? Stunted Growth Music
A question on a post I came across and it reminded me of the question I and many have always asked when it pertains to Jason Weaver. Remembering the not so controversial and usually low key Jason Weaver is one thing, but to remember how good of a singer he was is another. you may know a thing or two about the talent Jason weaver possessed at just 12 13 years old, when he played the role of Michael Jackson in the 1994 miniseries called The Jacksons: An American Dream. That year he also flawlessly was the voice behind Simba of the classic animated feature The Lion King. Jason Weaver’s voice was special. But he was not just a child star or singer/voice in the shadows. He began his acting career even before he got into music at just 10 years old in 1990, and has been all throughout the decade, mostly known for his role in the Jacksons and the hit t.v sitcom Smart Guy. He released his debut album in 1995 on Motown records, in a time the child star in hip hop was the “it” thing to be and have success. All of a sudden he discontinued dropping music and here we are. Another thing I think hurt his transition is his voice didn't grow like expected. Singing as a kid is very different than as an adult, and is the biggest uncertainty with child stars. How well they will transition.

I notice that no one here remembers that Jason Weaver played in a short-lived sitcom called "Thea" with Brandy Norwood in the 1990s. I remember him well. His character was Jerome Durrell, Brandy's (Danesha Durrell) younger brother.

I think he's a legend for sure. He's done some iconic things in a short amount of time. Now he can enjoy all the work he put in when he was younger. From an interview I saw of his, he said those Disney checks have set him up pretty well. He doesn't have to grind it out anymore.

They did Usher the same way when they brought in Diddy, Devante Swing and Jermaine Dupree on his first album. Naan 14yo needed to be singin about “Can You Get Wit It?” even tho it was a whole vibe (I am around their age and got my azz to’ up from singing those songs 😂). There wasn’t a lot of teen artists around at that time…Tevin Campbell, Usher, Brandy, Aaliyah, Jason, Tracie Spencer…there was a whole market but the songs weren’t geared towards the younger demographic. But if u peep the vid on KZbin about H-Town, they said they waited til they got older (18) to come out and sing the songs THEY wanted…somewhat age appropriate but the rest is history.

@@brandiegill3370 I also heard Monica started very young. What saved them is that they sounded older, jason got that sweet soft voice. I'm not mad at "I can't stand the pain" and "love ambition", his writers should've just kept it all "subtle" to match his sound.

GREAT feature from the channel that does it up in the Hoops world... 🔥🔥👏🏾. Nice change-of-pace here. Really liked Weaver as a singer, but MJJ he was not -- vocally, or otherwise. Really was an actor who could sing, not a singer who could act. Had he not gotten screwed by WB's racist and premature cancellation of wholesome "Smart Guy", and had his work in "The Lion King" been visual in addition to vocal, story may have turned out differently. I like "Love Ambition" as an album, but best songs are mediocre, overall; needed to sing Jam & Lewis and Babyface songs instead of ones by Keith Crouch, or a shopworn Isley Brothers remake. Good he took those LK royalties, tho -- love to see a Black success story in an industry that totally exploits talent to the Max. Well Done, Sir! 🎩
